Description
A pen and game all in one. You could fill it with water and little plastic pieces floated around, which you'd try to get to go in one place. (Space men would all get into a space ship). They came in different colors (the tops and bottoms of the pens, where the rubber stoppers and pen caps were). Many hours of fun were had with these... I still find the little pieces (men) that came out when I'd refill it. They just don't want to leave...

I had the sink the sub pen. It was stolen by little jerks back in 1980. There was also a Wacky Water Flashlight. I had a chance to buy that one but passed. These are near impossible to find now. Still looking!

I think there were four of these. I remember a submarine that catches three rings around its periscope, a spaceship that catches three tiny astronauts, a fish or shark that eats three tiny bones, and a treble fish hook attached to a floating ball that you try to "hook" three fish with. I had all four pens back in the day, around 6th or 7th grade for me, but have never seen one since. The commercial jingle went "Wacky water writers - sometimes it's a pen, sometimes it's a game."

Wasn't there a jingle like "...something is inside them, Wacky Water Writers...there's the Creep of the Deep, that will ooze and something, something". Didn't they have some kind of slime in them?

Yes, Alex, that was the jingle (creepy sounding: Something is insiiiiide them, Wacky Water Wriiiiiters, haha), and the one you described was the Writer I had- it was a tall castle with open windows and doors, and when you flipped the pen the slime at one end would pour through theses openings. Why the hell do I remember this stuff, and then obsess enough to Google it? Lol- at least I'm not alone!

After the Wacky Water Writers came the spooky version the Wacky Monster Writers. Man our teachers hated these things. As I recall they were banned from classroom use.
