Description
Maybe you can actually help me with this one. In about 1975-1976 I got this toy as a Christmas gift: It was blue plastic track snapped together to make a highway. There was a red "Bandit" battery operated car and a police car as well. You put them both on the track and they chased each other around and around on the "highway." I have spoken to every toy afficionado I know and no one has heard of this toy except me. I know it was around for at least a couple of years because I got it for two birthdays in a row. Does this spark a memory in anybody out there? It was called "Police Chase Getaway"

I have this toy. I too got it for Christmas way back when and have enjoyed it for many years and now my kids even play with it from time to time. It was made by Sears and is called highway police chase.

This was my biggest Christmas disappointment ever. I wanted this SO bad, and got it. My dad went to put it together, and it turned out it was broken. We took it back, and it was out of stock. I was heartbroken.

I got this for xmas in the 70s, a friend had it and i wanted it soooo bad. I got the scaled down Sears version (it didn't have the toll booth section or whatever it is). It was also missing an exit ramp (or it didn't fit right, can't remember). It was a lot more fun at my friends house then it ever was at mine

I was just looking in a box of old toys I had and came across this game too. I remember how much fun it was. I had been keeping toys for when I had kids, but I think they would probably not appreciate it as much as we did way back when.

I had this toy in the mid-70's. I loved it. Thanks for the pic. Everyone I ever tried to explain it to thought I was mistaken and that I had a Motorific set, but I knew the difference. It appears in the 1976 Sears Wish Book on page 449. I think I had it a year or two before that, though. Unfortunately, all it says there is "made in Japan", so I could never identify it.

I recall this well from the Sears Wishbooks of the 70's. I always wanted it, now I just want to see video of one in action so I can see what I missed lol. http://www.flickr.com/photos/wishbook/95603183/sizes/o/in/set-72057594059350688/

I dug this toy out recently for my Grandson, well my kids must have enjoyed it since they ran the wheels off the cars. All other pieces appear to be there but the cars are out of service. Does anyone know where you can get replacements ??

I had this set, and it was a childhood favorite. Mine did not have the tollbooth, or the remotes. The track route was switched by hand, manually. The car in the photo also looks different than mine, which were mid/late 1970's Chevy Novas. Other than those few differences, it was the same set. I'm not sure whatever happened to it ...... mom probably sold it at a yardsale. :-(

One of the neighbors' kids had this, and we loved it. On a hunch, just decided to Google "police chase toy" and within seconds found this site! Gotta love the internet! Too bad they don't remake it, but I suppose kids today need more sophisticated entertainment.

I actually bought this set on ebay a little while ago, was going to give it as a present, but changed my mind. Want to buy it? The police car is intack, red chase car does not have insides. Track and everything else, including original box is there. I want to sell it and have it listed on Craigs list. I paid $40, and add $10 for getting a new shipping box and postage and it's yours. Go to:http://lansing.craigslist.org/tag/2748419045.html

Does anyone REMEBER a car chase like this bit it had buildings you put all around the track the track was a big plastic lay out of a city maybe New York or Chicago I think it was call cops and robbers the cars were from 1930 gangster days
chris - December 23, 2012 - Report this comment
Yes I do Sam that is what brought me to this page. searching for that very game. If I remember correctly it was two battery operated cars one cop and one robber the track was a small setup of like 9 black plastic tile pieces and paper buildings hooked on to streets someway. There were like two switch tracks on opposite side and I would play against my cousin for hours on end. Cops and robbers sounds right as well but not finding anything close to the toy. It was fairly simple but a lot of fun. The paper buildings make it really notable. I would have loved to find this one for my son.

I remember this game! I remember the smell the cars gave off from their electric motors too. Great toy to get on xmas morning. I remember mine was more blue than in this picture and maybe the track wasn't as expansive? I remember equal loops on two sides, and a smaller middle section.

From the 1975 Sears Wish Book, the Highway Police Getaway set sold for $13, and two AA batteries were needed for the cars.
