Description
plastic & metal horse with springs on feet and between front & back legs, so you could actually ride it around, albeit rather clumsily. It was the best! (probably a deathtrap, so discontinued)

I rode this toy when I was young but I have to say though it might have looked good, it was the most retarded (get nowhere) apparatus.
Debbie - December 12, 2008 - Report this comment
My younger brother had this in 1974. Us older siblings never let him have much time on it. Poor horse was always getting a ride around the house! I want the one that Kevin James has. How can I get that from you?

Fantastic!!! Me and my older Brother had one..I mean my older brother had one.. but having a little brother meant he couldn't have anything for himself!

I ALWAYS begged for a "real" horse so my mom bought me a Pogo Pony for Christmas instead. I picked him up and balanced his legs on top of two desks, climbed up on the bunk bed to get on top of his back, so I could immitate the height of riding a real horse. He slipped and kicked out a window! I don't know where my Pogo Pony is now...but I loved him!!! I think there are far more dangerous toys, than him. I would give one a good home if someone would sell him to me.

I got one of these for some gift giving event when I was about 4 yrs old. It took my grandfather 3 hours to figure out how to put the whole thing together correctly, but once her did it worked awsome! At first I could only make it gallup backward, but eventually learned how to move with it right. I kept that horse for my daughter, but it was eventually stolen off of my front porch when I lived in Poway. I would really love to get one in good working order...

I acquired one of these little horse's and I found that it had been put together wrong it's entire life. I feel that I'm mechanically minded and I found it difficult to set it right. So I can relate to many of parents that were staying up on Christmas's of the past, losing sleep while trying to assemble the Pogo-Pony! But they are cute!
JJ - November 26, 2009 - Report this comment
I did HAVE real horses, but LOVED my Pogo Pony! I rode him all over the pasture. Maybe those who thought they were retarded just did not know how to ride! :-)

I still have my Pogo Pony. I named him Max because the sticker on the Pony's butt said Maximum weight 75 lbs. It took me forever to figure out how to ride it but when I did, I never wanted to get off. We went to Florida one year from Pa. in a Winabego and I made my dad tie it to the rear bumper like a bicycle. We got a lot of laughs from truck drivers on the way down! My Pogo Pony is in my attic now. I love that thing!

I loved my Pogo Pony days, rode right on out there with our real horses. I wish they made a larger one...just to re-live the fun. It is now in my closet, can at least still sit on it an walk it some :)

It was my most favorite toy ever, had no intention of ever getting rid of it. Noone else had one. Then it was stolen right out of our backyard. sigh*

This was the toy from hell, it was so hard to get the momentum going to get it to go anywhere. My older brother smashed into it with his bike and killed it.

My best toy ever! Great exercise too, as it took a lot of energy to get them going but once you mastered it, you could go pretty fast. For those who say they couldn't... don't blame the horse! :)

After getting "bucked off" multiple times until I finally learned how to make it move, I then rode my PP endlessly around the farm. I still have mine...but don't know that I'd allow the grandkids to ride it unless I had helmets for them.

I Love my pogo pony and still have him stabled in my attic. Neither of my 2 children were ever allowed to ride him - they were only allowed to look!! I was the only person in my area that had one and my mum had to hunt high and low to find one for me!!

I used to ride mine outside, but could only get it to go backwards! I guess even then, I wasn't coordinated. lol One day, my sister sat on in and broke the saddle, so I was left to cry when dad took it to the landfill.

I was so poor, my dad had left us. He happened to appear one day and took me to Savon's for my B day. Can't remember how old I was. He said "you can have anything you want" I pointed to the pogo pony my life long dream the closest thing to a real horse I would probably have, and he had the salesperson bring it down. I could feel my heart pound. "Could this be real? could I really own a Pogo Pony?" but alas, No, I was too po'.. My dad told the guy, "um put it back." Then he told me I could have anything on "this row." My siblings picked out the Operation Game. To this day I hate that operation game and It messed me up for life. If anyone has a Pogo Pony for sale, I need one to close out one of the most traumatic experiences of my life. Please let me know at irenekellymusic@yahoo.com

I wanted the rubber bouncy toy version of the pogo pony for Christmas. When it wasn't under the tree on Christmas, I held back my disappointment until all the gift unwrapping was finished, and still, no pogo pony. When he could see I was about to lose control of my emotions, my dad asked me to look out the front window to see whether the neighbors across the street were "up yet". I moved the curtain aside to peer out the window into the darkness just as a live animal pricked its ears. What? A real pony with a red bow around its neck was tied to the bushes outside the window. Santa had delivered a real pony for me to the front yard! I named the pony "Pogo" and rode him for years, until my legs could nearly touch the ground when I was mounted. Then I graduated to a new filly which became a prize-winning mare.

I had a 4 of the pogo pony’s. One at Christmas time when I was 3 years old. I loved my pogo Pony. Then when that one broke from my brothers breaking it my mom got me another and the handle broke off. Then I got another. But alas that broke to when I fell off and almost hurt my wrist and broke my arm. Anyway she bought me another cause the one I fell off eventually broke cause I was in the stone driveway. And I rode that pogo Pony around til it eventually broke. I was really good at riding it to. I used to ride it everywhere on the property even at my grandparents house. I could turn around, back up,( which that’s the first thing I learned to do when I was 3 but I learned real quick how to go forward, and in less than three days I was turning the pogo pony around in less than 5 seconds. Bet you guys never spun it around that fast as a kid! I wish they would make an adult pogo pony, that would be bomb! I want another! Anybody have one?

eBay has a Playskool Pogo Pony on auction. Current bid is $25, which was the original retail price, per the 1970 Sears Wish Book. One oddity is that the pony has a mane, but no tail. Higher production costs and a sagging economy led to discontinuation in 1976.

I have a Pogo the Pony, that although he is in nice shape for his age, would best be used as a decoration, after all he is over 50 years old. He still has all his “shoes” and even has his yarn tail intact. Make offer. fordgirl123@yahoo.com Email me if you would like pictures.

I have been looking for a pogo horse forever I can't afford one because I'm on disability but this was my favorite toy as a kid I would love just to have a photo of it to hang on my wall everyone doesn't believe me that I read it all the time. I know if I had one today they would lock me up and throw the key away and say I lost my mind because I would ride him every day.
