Description
Hollow rubber doll about 4" tall (various colors available orange, blue, maybe others) with battery-powered light in head and momentary power switch under belly (a slide-in plastic cartridge). A gremlin/ratfink bald guy with clear plastic jewels for eyes and a tooth. An elastic lanyard out the top of his head. The jingle went: "You press their funny tummy, it makes 'em light; Everybody's having fun with Looney Light." I'd love to find one of these... but no one has heard of them. Must be around 1971.

I found this webpage doing a search for a LOONEY LIGHT. I had one of these, and I remember what year it was, 1968, I saw the ad on television (I do remember "Looney Light! Looney Light!" and kids riding bicycles) and wanted one for my birthday, and I got it (I expect he wasn't expensive)! Hard to believe that was 40 years ago. He had a lanyard as you wrote that went thru his head so you could wear him 'round your neck. I collect a lot of vintage 60s stuff, even Mini Martians, but LOONEY LIGHT never seems to turn up. You may contact me at allhallowsday@yahoo.com

I just found this page searching for LOONEY LIGHT, too! There's not a one to be had, on ebay...but SURELY, they must still be out there somewhere...I think mine was green. I got this in the mid '60's, i think. Yep. Wasn't as late as '70. Let me know if you find 'em! I'm starting to recollect all the toys i loved from my childhood...have you SEEN the price of upsy downsies, and the Green Ghost game?!? Gasp. I must be old....:) elektra001@yahoo.com

I still have mine from when I was a kid. The dog got it and pulled out the insert and its toes have some teeth marks on them. To bad, I wish he was in better shape. I loved that ugly little thing! Nearly Killed the dog!

I was so excited to read these stories about looney lights. I was beginning to think noone else in this world knew what one was! I had a yellow one when I was a little girl. I used to have dreams that he would run away from me then reappear on my window sill. I had kept him for about 40 years until one day my husband talked me into throwing him away because I had lost the battery insert. I wish I hadn't done that! I miss that little guy!

I still have 2 or 3! There was the bald guy, but also a furry guy. My blue bald guy lasted with the original battery (from 1971) into the late 80s's! I was thinking of contacting Guinness Book of World Records- an AA battery lasting more than 15 years! Anyway, I'll have to go dig them up now...

I still remember getting my Looney Light from Lit Brothers department store in South Philly around 1969. He was yellow and I carried him everywhere. I have no idea where he went, but I wish I still had him. Even seeing a picture of one would be cool. A friend of mine had a blue one, and she is the only other person I know who even knows what a Looney Light is!

I found my blue one the other day! He is the bald guy. Also have a green furry one I'm still searching for. I'm going to clean up the blue one and try putting a new battery in him. I remember they had elastic cords with which you could hang them around your neck. It's no longer attached to my guy though. Once I clean him up I'll take a picture and give a link here for everyone to see, and reminisce.

I have a little blue Looney Light. I would explain him to my friends and no one had any memory of him! I searched all over the net only using the name I found stamped into the rubber on his back, "Horsman Dolls 1968"..and I was able to find "Looney Light", and even "Louie Loonie Love Light!!" haha. I am so happy to find this site! I have submitted a photo of him which is being reviewed before they publish..I hope others also submit photos!

WOW! I'm so glad others remember the Looney Light toys too. My sisters and I each had one and we used to sit in the dark and intone "looney light, looney light, looney light..." and my dad would make us stop 'cause it sounded so creepy. I would LOVE to find one that works to give to my little sister (now aged 47) for x-mas... Can't wait to see photos in the gallery! Thanks !
