Description
This is the true name for the "Ball with a Handle" toy that you sit on and hop around the yard or in the gym. I thought it was made by wham-o, but I can't find the originator. A good toy for coughing up your lunch, loads of fun.

Oh my God what fun were Hippity Hops? We hopped in the yard, on the street, in the house (when Mom wasn't home) and into the pool (THAT was a blast!) Later, when I "grew up", we used them as buoys and raced jet ski's around them. (upside down with sand weights tied to the handles.) Now, I'm pushin' 40 and I'm thinking they would be a GREAT way to get in shape while laughing hysterically. Hippity Hop party anyone?

hippity hops were the best, and pogo sticks. they dont make anything close to the toys we had in the 70's.

This was my favorite toy growing up! I had a red one that I had named "Fury". I lived on it! I ate my meals on it, I watched TV on it, bounced all around our tiny house on it. My dad would get so mad. One day he took a kitchen knife and pretended he was going to stab it....but he "accidentally" did! I was traumatized for years. They got me a new blue on but it wasn't the same!

I also had the red one. Wasn't it awesome? I bet if someone came up with an adult version there would be fewer obese grownups out there. after I had my son I saw hippity hops with horse heads as handles, on Sesame Street. Would have been cool to have one of those.

Hippity (or Hoppity) Hop jumping toy first made by Sun Products in 1969. This had to be inflated at home, using a bicycle pump with needle. Many schools used these for physical education, but they took up lots of space inflated. TV advertising was spotty, and mainly on a local basis.
