Description
This thing was weird. I remember it was like a gun and you would shoot ghosts that were projected onto the walls. I never had this, but really wanted it.

I had one of these. I left it outside under a bush and some neighborhood kids apparently came along with a lit grille and burned it. It still worked but was singed. I know. Weird, useless story.

My son loved his ghost gun..I still have it but no film for it..I am wondering if someone has a new one or the parts for it..My two boys would shoot holes in those ghosts and just laugh and laugh..that was about 78 or there bouts.

One my favorite toys growing up. I remember painting the exterior with flames and other "cool" stuff after I ran out of tapes.

Does ANYONE know where to purchase a ghost gun, vintage or new? My brother had one ( early-mid 70's) My cousins and I loved it as much as he did. I have 4 sons of my own and would love to get one for them.

By far the COOLEST toy in the history of the world! I had 2 of them growing up. I laid waste to 1000's of ghosts & ghouls back in the day. I wish I still had one of them! I think it was made by a company called "ideal".... (are they still around???) If so, all of us Ghost Gun fans need to start writing & calling to have it reissued!!!!!! I swear I would buy several of them just because they were really that cool!!!!!

I agree with Mark Pulley. I am 42 years old. I think my two favorite toys of all time (as a boy in the 70's) was the Ghost Gun and the Ricochet Racers. I remember being a so excited when my dad put the batteries in the thing and I first projected those "ghots" on the white walls of my bedroom in the dark. The memory of that image is burned into my brain. Compared to video games of today, these things seem very dated, but I swear my young boys would LOVE this toy for its simplicity and fun. I wish someone would reissue something like it.

In addition, I think it was manufactured by "Hasbro." (If you are looking for one online, like on www.timewarptoys.com or ebay.

Oh man ! I'm so happy I found you folks. I couldn't remember the name of this toy but I loved to play with it in my darkened bedroom. It was one of the few toys I remember having while my parents were still married. If you think about it, this gum was like an early video game !

witchammer - October 09, 2010 - Report this comment

My uncle worked for Hasbro and gave me one when I was a kid AND a huge lot of the strips. I had a nightmare about a ghost from playing with it and my dad smashed it in the garage and the only thing I saved was a couple of the strip books. A few years ago I got one in a box with a booklet on ebay and didn't haven't had any bad dreams from it yet. It's so cool!

I'm 44 from Sydney. I loved the ghost gun. Simple but effective toy. It's funny how some things stay with you after all of this time. The ghost gun was a classic!

Yeah, I had one too. I remember spending many happy hours in the hall closet (dark but not too dark). I would LOVE to see this toy reissued so I could get my son one.

I got this for Christmas back in the late 70's. My recollection is hazy, but I could not get the gun to work for some reason. My Mom returned it to the local Ace Hardware store and got me the radio controlled R2-D2 instead (which I still have in perfect working condition).

I had a similar gun when I was 8 that was probably made by the same company. It was green and instead of ghosts, projected WWI airplanes and blimps. A pin punched a hole in the strip just the same. I went through the film strips quickly, but was able to order more. I found it several years after college and the rubber roller had dry rotted, but I was able to wrap a rubber band around it and it worked.

I have a ghost gun that was my brothers, I think it still works but I do not have the paper with the ghosts on it for the gun. If you are interested in buying it from me make me an offer. Thanks Angelg_1@comcast.net

I had one when I was about 8. Have asked many people if they remember it and no one ever remembered it. Glad I found you guys and no longer have to think I am crazy.

I had one when I was a kid. I do not remember everything on the gun but must have been. Thought it had its own projector. Had lots of fun with it. If I had one toy again from my youth I think this would be the one. That and the Robot that played 8 tracks and you answered questions on.

Great toy with such a simple design. I had one when I was 5 in 1975. Was a nighttime ritual, Dad would come in and help me shoot up the ghosts in the room. Definitely helped me sleep like a kid who had just shot up all the potential bedroom nighttime threats.

My older sister and I had this, it must've been the early eighties if not late seventies. I remember the gun actually poked holes through the film so we were reluctant to use it too often.

Just picked up one of these from a Thrift store. It's missing it's battery cover. Would love a close up picure of a battery cover and a scan of a strip or page of scripts, hat we could maybe reprint on overhead sheets on an inkjet? Anybody able to help out with that?
