This morning I looked down at my husbands feet and they were dry. I started singing the jingle "dusty, dusty, dusty....feet" He started laughing. Then I thought where did I get that jingle from. I remembered 'Dusty, Dusty, Dusty riding on Nugget, Nugget, Nugget". I could not think of the rest. My partner is ten years younger and never heard of the commercial. When I sang the commercial jingle for Dusty and Nugget he could not stop laughing. He did not believe that Dusty and Nugget existed. I am now 43 and could hardly remember the toy. So we looked it up and here it is. I was so excited to have a picture to show him. I never got this toy but if it was a cowgirl I know I would have wanted it....and probably the reason I remembered the jingle. It is amazing that you can have any vague thought these days and have it confirmed with the use of the internet.

I have the orignal, before she was harder plastic. Nugget could not stand on her own, she had to balance upon a fence and is made of a durable foam...There is texture to the touch.. I wanted the horse soooo bad, it was the only thing I wanted. My Mom says you could not find it in the toy stores and some family friend contacted Kenner direct some how... Still have Nugget, saddle, biddle and fence (missing the pivot point, Nugget rested on) she is very delicate and played with alot... But I did get the toy I wanted for christmas...

I had two Dustys and a Nugget. My Nugget had soft legs and couldn't stand, I was so disappointed because I was dying to receive this horse. My mom was furious and wrote to the company about it. One Dusty had normal colored skin, but the other one had really orange skin. I still sing the song to myself on occasion

I also have the original fuzzy wobbly legged Nugget. And she's in mint condition! I had almost forgotten her, but found her in a box with my other toy horses over this past weekend. Glad to see others remember her, too!

When I was a little girl, my parents bought me the Dusty Tennis version of the doll. I LOVED it...mainly because she shared my name!! Not many of us female "Dustys" out there!! I wish I still had her!

I had this going through my head the other day. The 70's had very "hooky" jingles. Are you ready for your mystery date?

I had like three of the dustys but never the horse. I don't remember the horse. Thanks for telling me about it

Wow, I can't believe that I found this...I never had a Dusty or Nugget BUT I do remember the jingle and I have to say it runs thru my head every now and then! This is too funny. Denise, you are so right about how vague thoughts can be confirmed by the internet. I wish I could just find the actual commercial just to hear that jingle once again. I'm so glad that I am not the only one who remembers this!

I was just singing this jingle to my daughter of 8 years dusty dusty dusty riding nugget nugget nugget and she was laughing at the names. I told her we could look it up tomorrow. I had to run down now and find it sure enough you have this info. I do remember the legs on Nugget being such a disapointment. In all of that jingle I am so happy to have looked this up and remember my mom bought me a hot toy at the time. Christmas has passed and I get now know what she went through just to find the special toy. Thanks again everyone for more memories. What a jingle can do to us.

I had Dusty and Nugget, and they played on my ranch with the "Sunshine Family" to which I also had their house! Toys these days are just not the same! Kids don't have the imagination needed to play with them anymore!

I looked in the toy catalog every day leading up to christmas of my fourth grade year. Nugget was all I wanted. I already had Dusty and I dreamed of having Nugget and all of the horse gear. I got the golden horse and wish I still had her and Dusty. I've looked all over the internet trying to find a Dusty and Nugget to buy to no avail. Any suggestions?

I had a Dusty doll and really wanted a Nugget horse for Christmas (of course this was several years ago!). I really don't know if we didn't have the money or not, but I didn't get Nugget. Instead I got a bag of candy called Nuggets. Yes, that was not a good Christmas for me! Kinda makes me want to cry even now.

♫ "Silver soft and golden brown...It's time to ride back in to town on Nugget..Nugget..Nugget.."♪ I used to sing this jingle to my niece as I bumped her around on my knees. Not sure if the lyrics are perfect but I have fond memories of this commercial...and no real memory of the product itself.

I thought there was a line about 'she's riding east, she's riding west, and now it's time to take a rest, for Dusty Dusty Dusty....

i had one of the early dusty dolls and her hand fell off a couple days after xmas. too much tennis. i was crushed. my mom wrote a letter to kenner and they sent me a new one. she was the later more orange one with different texture hair, so i still liked the first one best.my mom just recently passed away and its nice to recall the lengths she would go to for me.

We recently bought a Palomino horse named Nugget, wish I could post a picture he looks just like him! My daughters wanted to change his name, but I remembered the Dusty and Nugget commercial and had to laugh at the cleverness of the person who named him and said no way! He is helping my daughters win kitts of ribbons, although he is not a Western horse!

I tried youtube for the commercial & no luck. I too remember Dusty, Dusty, Dusty. Riding Nugget Nugget, nugget. They're riding east, they're riding west. time to stop and take a rest. (sung by a deep voiced cowboy of course!) I had the tennis Dusty & my little sister (a future horse nut!) had the Dusty & nugget set. I remember the freckles across her face too.

Came across a "Nugget The Golden Palomino" for Dusty today & purchased it for my Stepdaughter. Was trying to research it, like new in the box with all of the parts listed. Anyone know a possible value? The brochure in the box is dated 1976.

Have been searching high and low for this commercial. Would love to see it. My sister and I always sang the song as "Dusty Dusty Dusty ridin' Nugget Nugget Nugget, she's so crusty crusty crusty on her buttocks buttocks buttocks". Don't know why, but that's how we remember it. We still sing it and laugh about it.

I was very fortunate to have received Dusty and her horse Nugget for Christmas in the '70's. She was so much better than Barbie! I loved Nuggets sweet looking face, which made his unsteady forgivable. I wish they still made toys like that!

The only thing I wanted for Christmas, one year back in the 70's, was Dusty Ridin Nugget. I got all sorts of gifts that year, but no Dusty Ridin Nugget. Oh how it still hurts! What did I do wrong? Why was Santa punishing me?

I remember there was a promo for this doll in which you brought any old, unwanted doll to a participating store and traded it in for a new Dusty doll. My mother played cards with her friends every week near one of the stores (it might have been just the one store that had the promo) so one night she took an old doll of mine with her to stop at the store on the way. The next morning when I got up looking for my new doll Mom told me that the Dusty dolls they were giving away as a trade were actually a smaller version with generic clothes (I can't really remember what the story was, but I gather it wasn't the Dusty doll I wanted). Anyway, it was apparently a really cheesy version of the doll, and my mother told me when the man at the store showed it to her, she told him that her daughter was going to be so disappointed. So instead, he gave her the "real" Dusty like you saw in the TV commercial. I don't know how many years it took for me to finally figure out that my mom actually bought me the better doll so as not to disappoint me :) Wish I knew now what the actual promo item was, but my mother can't remember.
Sunny - July 07, 2013 - Report this comment
Well, that wasn't hard. I just did a little Googling and found that there was a special version of Dusty for the trade-in promo. She just wore a bathing suit and had no accessories. There's one on ebay now. The "regular" doll came with real clothes and several sporting accessories like a tennis racket.

The ad for Dusty I found in an Archie comic book (Dec., 1974) may have preceded, before Nugget. Three Dusty sports dolls were featured, in which Dusty's arm could be positioned back, then released to swing at a baseball, volleyball or tennis ball. Nugget came out in 1975.

I never had Dusty, but because I was a horse-crazy kid, my parents did buy me Nugget. Even though the noodly legs were disappointing, my Barbies rode him, and when my Sindy doll's horse fell apart, Nugget became hers. I just found Nugget in a box of my old dolls. Great memories! Dusty, Dusty, Dusty, ridin' Nugget, Nugget, Nugget...

I've had that TV ad song stuck in my head, since I was a kid... Dusty Dusty Dusty, riding Nugget Nugget Nugget. They're ridin' east, they're ridin' west, time to stop and take a rest on Nugget Nugget Nugget... Like see that ad again, to see if I remembered it right... lol.

What great memories. I still have my Dusty doll from childhood and would love to see a TV commercial for Dusty again, but I can't find one anywhere online. Has anyone seen one? I've searched high and low on YouTube. :)
Rob Lambert - October 08, 2015 - Report this comment
Unfortunately, YouTube has no Dusty/Nugget commercials. The only advertising out there is in Archie Series comic books, late 1974 to 1975. Early ads were without Nugget, and were of the Dusty Sports figures. Among those, Dusty could also swing a golf club.

Saw the commercial. It aired on "New Adventures of Gilligan" cartoon show over ABC-TV (9/21/74). Features Dusty and friend, Sky, with the tennis set. Tried looking up these in wishbookweb.com, but it has no 1974 toy catalogs. Dusty was not in the 1975 Sears catalog, leading one to think Dusty had a short shelf life with not much demand.

On page 459 of the 1977 Sears Wish Book, I found Nugget, selling for $10. Dusty is pictured with horse, but her name isn't mentioned. In fact, the Nugget space was surrounded by Barbie dolls pictured for sale. To see this, go to wishbookweb.com.
Rob Lambert - November 28, 2017 - Report this comment
Reviewed the 1975 Sears catalog, and Dusty was on page 447. Doll sold for under $5, and clothing accessories were under $3. Nugget, at $10, included western duds for Dusty, as doll and horse were sold separately. The Sport Series playsets of 1974 sold around $7 to $8.

I just got a box of vintage toys from an elderly neighbor and in it there are 2 Dusty dolls and 2 Nuggets. They belonged to her daughters. Anyone interested in them?

We never actually had Dusty or Nugget but my sister and I could not get enough of this commercial in the 1970s. We would sing the jingle incessantly and must have driven my mom half crazy. Today my friend said, “I have to wash my car, it’s so dusty” and I said, “You mean Dusty riding on Nugget?”. The ad is on YouTube so please head over there and watch it right now!
