Description
Dawn dolls were much, much smaller Barbie-like dolls. They usually had very long, straight hair ('70s style) and there were at least 15-20 different dolls. I wanted very much to collect all of the Dawn dolls on display at my local toy shop, but only got to collect Dawn herself before my money started having to go to replace the 3-speed bike I'd left on the driveway. (My parents had already replaced one, so this time I had to pay for it -- and yes, you guessed it, I *still* have the one that cost my very own .85.)

I have three dawn dolls. One is the original, one came with several wigs and the third is Dina, who has long blonde blonde plaits. I loved my Dawn dolls, but GEESH thier shoes were IMPOSSIBLE to keep track of!

I used to have Dancing Dawn Dolls. Her arms, neck/head, legs and maybe hips were internally connected, and so when you moved her arm up and down, her head and hips/leg would twist back and forth in opposite directions.

i used to have all the dawn dolls-if memory serves me.my favorite had long black hair. i also had the dancing stage or was it the model run way? it was a stage with little sticks protruding for you to snap the dolls feet onto-then you move the levers back and forth and in and out-then the dolls would "dance" or walk the runway as the protruding sticks went the lenth of a track. i recently bought a dark hair dawn doll at a flea market.the black girl and the men -one of which was black also-are the hardest to get and the most expensive.

dear crazy amy, if you ever get to read this- what you described was actually the dawn beauty pagaent stage - which was bubblegum pink and afforded the chance to pit your dawn dolls up against each other in a fashion show beauty pagaent- i still have it somewhere in a secret toy closet of all my ancient favorite toys!

I too had the fashion show toy for my dolls- i got it for Christmas one year and loved it- you stuck the dolls on the sticks and they walked around a circle and i think even spun around at the front? I would love to see a picture of it

No joke...my name is Dawn. I loved my Dawn doll because she was so petite and I think her foot had a whole in it so she could connect to something that turned her around like a pirouette. I used to dance, so she was my favorite. I enjoyed reading all of your comments because I never knew there were so many different Dawn dolls.

I got Dawn's Fashion Show for Christmas one year. Today while cleaning the basement, I found the box containing the show stage and all the dolls. I had completely forgotten about it. Looking at it, totally threw me back to that Christmas! Those were the best days of my childhood!

Dawn and friends, boyfriend. My sister and I loved playing with Dawn and there was a fashion stage where she and friends would move around and twirl. We had the pink case for clothes and keeping them in. There was Jessica the stewardess too. My niece has them and enjoyed playing with them as well. I can still remember waking up on Christmas morning and seeing them and the fashion stage..stars in my eyes! ;)

My sister and I both had almost all the dawn dolls. They were inexpensive, so we were able to buy them ourselves. We also had the blue convertible car which, we kept in their boxes. One day we got home from school and our mom gave it to a boy. We're still upset about it and I'm late 40's and she's 50

I had Dawn, with her pink poodle, Coco, who somehow outlasted her by decades. My favorite was Angie, with her long dark hair, purple minidress with silver trim and purple shoes. Looking back, it's astonishing how elaborate Dawn's world was. I never had it, but I do remember that stage!

I had the Dawn doll and the Angie doll, and possibly a couple of others. My mom's best friend had a blonde daughter born a few days after I was named Dawn, and I had dark hair, so it always felt like someone had made us famous. And I remember secret pride that the Angie doll was so much prettier...

I got Dawn for Christmas when I was 5 or 6. That same year I got a Rosemary Rock Flower doll, and she and Dawn used to hang out together. Now I have Dawn again, and all the Rock Flowers, and they love to share clothes!

Found several different ads for Dawn dolls (by Topper Toys) in Archie comic books from 1971 and 1972.

I'm 54 and still have my three dawn dolls from my childhood, the blond, long hair brunette and a redhead with bangs. I have to thank my mom for putting them up for me or they would be gone like so many of my other toys I tired of. I enjoy getting them out every year when I get out my Christmas decorations. For years I have posed them on the branches of my Christmas tree. They fit right in with my other miniature toys. Love them!

Here's a flashback for you, Karen. From the Oct., 1971 issue of Betty and Me comics is a two-page centerfold ad featuring the Dawn Beauty Pageant and Dance Party play sets. The Dance Party ads shows eleven of the characters. Among them, a girl named Fancy Feet. Also, a black couple, Dale and Van. Plus, two guys, Gary and Kevin. Just for fun, try wishbook web.com, which displays page-to-page images from various department store cayalogs. Look up the ones from 1971 and 1972 for Dawn toys.

I remember going to a bunch of yard sales with my mother and aunt as a 7 or 8 year old in the late 70s and mom buying me a Dawn doll case completely stuffed with Dawn dolls and clothes. I never got that into them, and sold it at our own yard sale a year or two later, for about $2 for the whole case. Man, they'd be worth a small fortune now judging by eBay prices! If I'd only known.
