Growing up I had a cox baha bug, dune buggie, shrike and dragster. with testor I had a honda ATC 70,and a all terrain vehicle. I had a exstensive hot wheel red line collection (about60 cars). I had aurora AFX cars and tracks with the loops and high bank turns and also rord a schwinn varsity 10 speed but always wanted a orange crate. I loved my child hood and only wish the youth of today could enjoy theirs like I did mine.

I have a brand new used "Widowmaker" version of the Dodge Challenger (1971) molded in black. I still the original box and even the can of gas that came with it. The engine has never been used or run, even after all these years. I have displayed the car at car shows along with my 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 which is also black. It's a very nice toy that has enjoyed a very pampered life. I have thought about selling it from time to time....but it's hard to sell even a part of your youth.

I have 2 Cox cars. One is a dune buggy and one is a red dragster with a spider on the front. They worked great in the 70's.

I still have the orange Cox Dune Buggy, got it for X-mas in the early 70's. I seem to remember that they sold for $29.95 or $39.95 back then. Very cool toy. I wonder if the injection mold tooling is still around somewhere...wouldn't it be cool if came back. I would think they would sell really well.

Hey Mike,Thereis acomoany here in Indiana, that trying to bring them back,One major problem they are havig is someone making a decent cox style motor. they were almost there and this company in china made them but they had a big problem ,in their Quality Control,so They pulled the plug with them and now they are trying to find someone else,an its been a very long wait ,they arestill looking and trying to do this,The first car they are doing is a 1972 Vega Funny Car,The ysay if they find a Mgfr to make the motorsadn the Vega Funny car sells well, they will bring out other models, the place thats doing this is called Autoworld/Round2..they hvae brought back old school AFX slot cars from the 70's/80's,and they have done Diecast and the yalso make old school models from the 70's and stuff.here is their website. www.autoworldhobby.com there is no info on their site about the cox style motor ,but they are doing it and if you email them ,they will tell you about it.

I had a fast ones Dodge Challenger funny car that was a blast to run. Well one day it ran really really good to which it busted the tether and took off right as it was running out of fuel. Like a supercharger monster it ran straight on and started lifting the front wheels when the big hill got in the way. Blutered the body and scattered parts everywhere. I saved the motor parts and some body parts which I still have now. What do you know, I found a junker on Ebay for 30 bucks and am now reviving my old pal! Can't find the pulley part as well as the back side of the supercharger, but they will turn up. Still trying to find pictures of an intact one so I can see how the body attaches to the frame as well as what it rests on when down. I am going to try firing it up as well. What fun!

I worked mowing lawns as a kid seamed like an eternity making money to buy myself The Cox Dragster Eliminator II. I was very excited the day I had enough money to buy it . When to Kmart and bought it, got it home, took it out of the box, when the people that raised me( not my parents )tool of a guy took it out of my hand and shattered it across his leg. I was 12 and not happy. The end of the story is better. Found one on eBay and bought it, 40 years later. Life can suck as a kid when mean nasty people control ur life. But now I have one, and NO I'm not going to play with it. It sits on my desk in my office beside my Cox Vega.... Maybe I should run it, nah I think I'll leave it on my desk. Probably shatter it like it was the first time around. The people that raised me ain't getting this either.

Mine is more of a question! Have lots of Cox toys and engines and recently have dug the shrikes out and Bought the one I didn't have! There's 2 lime green ones,3 yellows I know of, 3 reds I know of and one black! Haven't had any luck finding factory imagines of them so my question is on the yellows,I have one with the residue of a sticker across the front and half length in the middle of rear fender! Saw one on shrike images but pictures are so fuzzy you can't Make out what they are! And did any actually come with a #5 on it? Can anybody answer this or know of pics anywhere to see or have a yellow shrike with the sideways stickers on the front?

Cox goes back to 1947. The business remained in the Cox family until 1970, when the founder retired and sold to Leisure Dynamics. Along with street vehicles, Cox also sold gas-powered model airplanes, rocket ships and HO scale locomotives. Even Mattel wasn't daring enough to attempt marketing internal-combustion models like these. Cox toys were always expensive, due to the precision work involved in making each model.

Rob Lambert - March 01, 2018 - Report this comment
Hank: eBay has some clues. It's got a used late 60s Corvette selling for $100, missing some parts but works. Also, an unused, unassembled, mint Corvette, with original paperwork, selling for $850. A hobby shop may also carry pricing guides for vintage Cox vehicles. Original address was Santa Ana, Calif.
