Description
plastic battery powered portable record player that you could walk with... the gimmick was that it would not skip while you played records walking down the street. You loaded the record, closed the lid and carried it like a beifcase... came in red and blue.

A friend had one, and even as a kid I thought the idea of carrying one's personal music collection (ok, a single '45, but still...) around was the ultimate in personal entertainment. Now look at us and the MP3-compatible mobiles. Yay, I live in the future!

From the Saturday morning cartoon vault: Close and Play TV commercial, with Bo Diddley, the famed guitarist demonstrating it for kids. This aired on the "Flintstone Comedy Hour" over CBS (10/29/72). By Kenner, phonograph played only seven-inch 45RPM records, and ran on two D sized batteries. The stylus mounted on a slide in cover to ensure smooth record play.
