Description
Baby Alive chewed when you pressed down on her bottom lip, not when you turned her head (I had 3 of them. They kept getting clogged with baby food.) She also pooped in her diaper. (That was always interesting)

I don't remember having to press on Baby Alive to get it to chew (but that doesn't mean it wasnt so) I cut all of her hair with cuticle sissors

I remember mine, you had to press down on the bottom lip to get her to eat. Don't know what ever happened to her, but she was much better than the current baby alive...they are so ugly.

I got my Baby Alive in the winter of '73, I was 1 year old. The story my mom tells me is that it was a gift from my godfather and I actually quivered with joy when my mom opened the box for me. 34 years later, my Baby Alive is still around in a box with all my stuffed animals at my parents house!

I still have my baby alive, she looks a little worse for wear, but I still love her. I've lost her dress, but I have her bowl and spoon. I loved the plastic smell of her. Great days!

I selfishly ruined my sister's Baby Alive by feeding it raisins

I loved my Baby Alive. I treated her like she was a real baby. I fed her pinto beans, mashed potatoes, and hamburger steak. My daddy had to unclog her by putting a wire coat hanger up her butt, pushing out the putrid food from her mouth. Talk about traumatic. I will never be the same. I never looked at my baby the same.

I left my comment in 80s, but my Baby Alive was 70's definitely. Got it for my 4th bday, but it pooped all over and my grandma made me take it back. Funny memories!

I had one. I thought she chewed when you put the spoon in the mouth. But that makes sense, it probably pressed down on the lip.

I still have both of mine. I wanted one sooo bad when they came out and my mom and dad bought me a african american one, the only one they could find so I pretended I adopted her. Her name was Mandy, then I got a white one her name was Kimberly. I remember all my dolls names!!

i think i got my baby alive in 1974. the powdered food mix was banana flavored, and i remember tasting it. you were supposed to give her a bottle of water after she ate to wash the food through the digestive tract. maybe that was to help her to not grow mold?

I couldn't wait for Santa to bring me Baby Alive. Unfortunately, my mom would not let me feed her any of the food that came with her. I was really disappointed, but later we found out maggots were found in some of the dolls that received regular feedings. Guess mom knew best!

Melissa, I am rolling on the floor laughing at your post! My doll's scalp came off after awhile - don't know why - but sticking out of her head was a mass of plastic and wires. Creeped me out.

I had one of these in the 70's. It's facial movements made my gran laugh. She always said it's mouth reminded her of those of the monkeys in Planet of the Apes.

I loved this doll from afar. I was born in 1970 and wanted this doll my entire childhood. My Mom would never gift me with it. She said she wasn't going to buy me one of those dolls just so that the food could rot inside and stink up her house. Tried asking Santa too every year, but you can probably guess how THAT turned out. :-/ Then my cousin got one for her birthday. That stung! LOL! I'm 41 years old and still wishing! :-)

I remember getting my baby alive so well. Must have been about 4 so that would have been in 71. I can still remember how that food smelled. Sort of like banana and mixed with that cheap plastic. lol I was so excited that she had diapers to change. My mom would always say did you feed her plenty of water to wash that stuff down. Now that I think about it it probably was pretty nasty. hahaha

Oh wow, I definitely remember Baby Alive, Christmas of ’73. She was gorgeous, very cuddly for a plastic doll, with lots of curly, shiny hair. She wore a cute little orange dress with white dots. I think she wore white socks and shoes, and a white hair ribbon. The food came in three flavors in little packets—Limey Lime, Cheery Cherry and Bitey Banana, a powder you mixed with water. I guess you were supposed to make sure she drank plenty of water, too. Extra food and diapers were sold separately. My friends’ brothers would do terrible things to their sisters’ dolls—shooting peas through either end was a favorite. I followed all the instructions to the letter, but my doll got clogged up and started to smell, so my mother replaced her, and the second one wasn’t as pretty. She had thinner hair and a permanent cowlick, and it just wasn’t the same. I felt like a bad mommy for letting my kid get sick.

My Aunt brought home two Baby Alives one October in 1974. One for my cousin and one for me. I was 11 and I was in heaven to have a doll that ate and pooped! I played with her so much. I named her Cindy and I made her a small cake on every birthday. I'm 49 now and I still have her. My daughter thinks she's creepy but I think she is lovely and beautiful. I cherish those days when I used to sit under our Pecan Tree and feed her while my 3 brothers watched. =)

I had a baby alive when I was about 9. I remember taking her on a camping trip with my family. I must have kicked her in my sleep and activated her motorized "chewing" sounds. My mom woke up in our camper In a sheer panic wondering what the heck was making that awful noise! She quickly realized it was baby alive- no monster creature. We still laugh over that!

My Baby Alive was so beautiful with her blonde hair and blue eyes ... until my sister (2 yrs older than I, killed her one day. She didn't want to play house anymore but I really did. I kept trying to persuade her to play just a little more when she threw my baby doll hard on the floor and her eyes popped out. It still bothers me ... I know, I'm nuts but it does. I collect beautiful true to real life baby dolls now and I'll probably tell her it's because she traumatized me. She'll laugh but .... one of these days.....

I loved mine!!! I found her a few years ago in a box at my parents' house. She no longer works and her hair is a major mess, but I have a lot of great memories.

I got a Baby Alive for Christmas one year. I think I was 10. I LOVED that doll!!! One day I decided my doll needed a blanket and cut one of my mom's blanket corners off. As it happened, my mom chose that very blanket to make one of the beds that same day. She realized what I had done and threw my Baby Alive away. :( I still miss my doll, 30 years later... I check Ebay and other auction sites from time to time hoping to find one. I will keep on hoping until I find one

I loved my Baby Alive Doll. I took her everywhere! She was very real to me. One day my brother got mad at me and tore her head off! It was impossible to put back on. I remember my dad trying without success. Baby Alive was now dead. I buried her, head and body, in the back yard. I still haven't forgiven my brother! He still jokes about it!

I love my Baby alive doll. I can't seem to find a photo anyway on the web of the version I have. She is from the 1970's but not sure what exact year. She still has her original cherry dress, bib and plate. She is now working again after my wonderful boyfriend has taken her scalp of and fixed the mechanism that makes her chew. I have tried to upload photo and video but alas it did not seem to work.
