They used to advertise them as hot and juicy and they were really juicy. Nowadays they are very dry.

I remember the first commercials I saw for Wendy's always had people taking extra napkins because they were so juicy. Mike, you're right, they're now very dry and taste like liver to me.

They were a lot bigger and juicier back in the day (late 70's-early 80's). But they were also enormously expensive: it cost more to eat there than at Dairy Queen. But of course they didn't have the 99-cent menu then.

Wendy's has changed the seasoning that they use...well that they don't use anymore. Until they sold off all their stores to franchisers they were the best. I was a manager there for 7 years under the old Wendy's International and it's not the same company today. Basically, it's missing Dave Thomas...Period. They used to sprinkle the burgers with a salt, pepper mix. As well, the hamburgers were "pattied" in the store daily. Now the hamburger is pre-packed but never frozen. Fries are different now. Wendy's used to have hot dogs, apple dumplings, breakfast foods and many other ideas that have gone by the wayside. The Super Bar was a flop for the company but a great success for customers. The company lost tons of money on the SB.

When you watch today's Wendy TV commercials, don't let the cartoon girl's smiley face fool you. Subliminal message: If you don't own a vehicle, your business isn't welcome. Since my town officially 'reopened" in late May, both Wendy stores still are locked up, only the drive thru open (similar situation with Hardees, some McDonald's, KFC and BK's). While I love supporting my local businesses in this day, being shut out, when reasonable social-distance tactics can be employed, without standing in between cars waiting to order. Yay to Pizza Hut: Fully open, including indoor dining.

As a kid, growing up in the 1970's, I remember that Wendy's burgers were thicker than they are now. A Wendy's triple was to big for a kid to bite into. The burgers were juicy, but not greasy. And, they had a reddish seasoning on them. It was like a chili powder, or maybe paprika, or something. The burgers changed in the 80's.The salad bar of the 1980's was great, and very affordable, for what you got.
