I still remember the theme song..."Tuna twist makes tuna taste, fresh as a garden". I remember my mom being so disappointed when it was discontinued. It basically was a seasoning mix (several flavors available) you added to your tuna.

This was the ONLY way I would touch tuna

The ONLY way we made tuna sandwiches. Where can we find it?? Why did they discontinue it??? It seems like every time I find something I like, they either "new & improve" it, or discontinue it altogether!! Halo Shampoo, Tuna Twist, Whip n Chill, Crystal creme candies, etc. Can't leave anything alone!!! Well, I'm all done. Thanks for letting me get it off my chest! At least I know I'm not alone! Thanks!

Likewise, I am glad to not be alone in my loving memory of Tuna Twist! It's frustrating while reminising about the past hardly anyone remembers it. I wish it would come back.

I remember another part of the theme song. "I'm Sir Celery. I'm Miss Parsley. We're the Onion Twins. Oh, Tuna Twist, Tuna Twist, fresh from the garden."

I loved it...dehydrated celery onion parsley in a packet with other flavors. Best tuna ever..I havent liked tuna as much since. Anyone remember Lemon Pudding Cake...it was a mix a dry cake on top with lemon pudding underneath..yum!

There are some great new tuna products on the market now. They put them in foil bags, and have flavors like teriyaki, lemon dill, etc. Very expensive though. I stock up on them when there is a 2-for-1 sale. And you don't have to mix any powder into the tuna.

My sister use to make this for us when we were little and we all loved it, then they recalled it or discontinued it. Remember the Food Stix I think they said it was the snack that the astronauts ate.

No one I know remembers this stuff and they think I am nuts. At last, proof the stuff existed! Is it true they took it off the market because it was causing blindness?

I loved Tuna Twist and have been looking for it for years. I tell my kids about Tuna Twist and they think I have lost my mind, because they have never seen or heard of it. What happened to it? Also what happened to Squeek shampoo and conditioner, it was the best. It had a great smell and made your hair look great.

I could not remember the name of the product -- just the onion twins. We used to use it as a joke. "Onion twins powers activate!" Of course, taking the Wonder twins line from the Super Friends then adding your own smell and oder as your power.

I have never used tuna twist. But my wife tells me about every time we make tuna. She says she loved it. Eat alot of it and she is not blind or sick.

I have been missing this since the sixties...I guess I'm a loser but I loved that stuff. Best tuna ever...

They need to bring it back on the market!! I miss Tuna Twist SO much!!!! PLEEEEEEZE bring it back!!!!
Deb - October 22, 2008 - Report this comment
I loved this too! I hate mayonaise, so by adding the veggies (you had to first rehydrate them with a bit of water) made it possible to have tuna with just a smidgin of mayo...I also remember the snack astronauts ate. I think Pillsbury made them and they were called Space Sticks. The peanut butter were my fav with a somewhat imitation but delicious taste! I wonder if they would still taste good as an adult.

The issue with Tuna Twist was that the parsley, onion etc were dehydrated and since there is not a lot of moisture in the tuna some were consumed before they were "rehydrated" and caused some gastric distress... some pretty severe.

I miss Tuna Twist also so I came up with this version 1 can of chuck light tuna in water (for flavor) 1 can of Albacore in water (texture) dried celery flakes, dried onion flakes, dried parsley (Less onion flakes - they are the strongest) 1-2 Tablespoons of TVP (Texture Vegetable Protein) - that is what stretches the the tuna to make more sandwiches. I drain the tuna and use some of the liquid from the chuck light to rehydrate the dried vegetables and TVP the liquid gives the TVP that tuna flavor. (This just takes a few minutes) Mix together with tuna and mayo and eat. My son is a part-time vegetarian and that is how I came across the TVP, this recipe is pretty close to the Tuna Twist I remember but then again that was many years ago. If anyone tries it and can make some improvements let me know.

OK Folks, I admit to have been addicted to the twist. Nothing else would or could make me eat tuna. I would love this to come back on the market but I did find that by adding onion and garlic powders, celery salt, dill weed, sweet pickle relish, salt and pepper plus the magic ingredient a tablespoon of SUGAR... yes, sugar comes in for a close second. Go ahead try it

Yeah, I loved that stuff. But it made me so sick. Gastric distress for sure. Soon after, Tuna Twist was off the market.

I'm Sir Celery. I'm Miss Parsley. We're the Onion Twins. Tuna Twist makes Tuna Taste Fresh as a garden by nabisco!
Cris - March 14, 2009 - Report this comment
I too loved this stuff, and still look for ways to immitate the flavor (celery powder, a little parsley, or mixing with fat free ranch dressing). My mom would ALWAYS mix in Tuna Twist, but now she claims she never heard of the stuff. I'm the only person I know who still remembers it!

I just went through a very old box of recipes and found a package insert from Tuna Twist Sandwich & Salad Mix...makes tuna taste fresh as a garden! I remember I liked this stuff but forgot all about it til I found this insert with several recipes using 3 flavors of Tuna Twist - Italian, Cheddar Cheese, Onion.

WOW--Ive been searching for a Tuna Twist box for YEARS... people tell me Im crazy, btu I can sing the jingle, too. They discontinues it because one of the ingredients turned out to be carcenogenic. IT was discontinued very soon after it was released. If ANYONE has a picture or commercial I'd LOVE to see it.

that gastric distress stuff is bs. I LIVED on this tuna twist when I was little. It was my favorite food. When I was in the hospital once, when I was 6 or so, I would eat nothing else! I was a tiny lil thing and never had stomache problems. How about they rehydrate the onion and celery before pos, or package it in foil bags with the tuna, so it rehydrates itself, you add the mayo??(btw for the person who mentioned the prepackaged flavored tunas available now, not the same...not the same at all.) Maybe if we all wrote in to Nabisco...

I had Tuna Twist when I was 13 and suffered diarrhea as a result. Shortly afterwards, my uncle in Los Angeles (who I was staying with at the time) brought me an article from the L.A. Times linking Tuna Twist to gastrointestinal illness. Nabisco was right to pull it from the market.

The song was stuck in my head for thirty years. I finally Googled it today and wham, lots of other bored people on the net...

I loved Tuna Twist. The concept was simple...dehydrate celery, parsley, onions and other seasonings, add to tuna and mayo and enjoy. I never had a problem with GI upset from the product. I wonder what the offending ingredient was. I've tried making a homemade version from dried herbs, etc. but it was never as good as the real thing. I wish they would bring it back. It was a great way to get kids used to eating tunafish.

Too funny. Read an article on MSN.com about food of the 70s and thought to google Tuna Twist. I was definitely a huge fan of it, too. Wish they would bring it back! I might eat canned Tuna again!

I loved this stuff. I remember they even had a cheese flavor. Absolutely delicious. Someone needs to circulate a petition to bring it back, sans digestive irritant. BTW, I never got sick and I ate truckloads of it.

I am so excited to see this website. I've been trying to remember the name of this tuna mix for so long. I can still taste it - i will sign a petition to bring it back if someone starts one!

It may not be as fun as the old gang at Tuna Twist; "I'm Sir Celery. I'm Miss Parsley. We're the Onion Twins. Oh, Tuna Twist, Tuna Twist, fresh from the garden," but I'm going to try StarKist Tuna Creations. They say it's good mixed into salmon, as well. I've missed Tuna Twist since my youth and hope StarKist's Tuna Creations is just as good. They claim the ingredients of it's "flavor fresh pouch turns regular tuna into a flavor explosion."
