Description
...ahhhhh, yes! Toaster pizzas were like the PopTarts of pizza. They were round & flat with sauce & cheese inside of a shiny-ish crusty shell. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! My family lived on these growing up! They had such a delicious taste. How dare they discontinue something so good....grrrrrr....Bring them back whoever you are!

Absolutly the best pizzas. I liked them when the insides were a little cold with that hot outer crust. Does anyone know the brand?

I have been looking all over for those toaster pizzas. I can't beleive they discont. them. They were so quick and convienent, and delicious. I use to pop them in and run out the door with them right before Basketball practice. The closest thing I found was the organic version from Amys. the are square but are expensive. Not as tasty as the old school ones..

Reeann - October 22, 2010 - Report this comment
I LOVED those Butoni toaster pizzas! I LIVED on those. Nothing since has compared to those or has been as good. The crust would come out so crispy and that cheese and sauce in there (sometimes it would leak out into toaster, but no one cared).... I craved those things. I crave it now. I've looked for them over the years to no avail. Sad, they discontinued them. Even if they brought them back, they probably wouldn't be the same.

I loved, loved, loved them ! Do they sell them anywhere ? Definately better than stuff that is sold now.
RichS18224 - March 14, 2011 - Report this comment
No one sells them, They were made by Buitoni and when I called the company, they said they will not be bringing them back. They "do not fit with our company image nor current product line" I, however, am working on my own version. If they get perfected, I will be making batches and selling them at local food markets and internet. I will keep you all posted. Man, I can still taste those little round UFO's filled with an unexplainable orange goop. They rocked.

I met a guy in Tucson ...he's in his mid 80's and he said he is the founder of the orginal Geno's frozen pizza. He said he was in CA and competing with the lady down the street who sold salmon and she was making money and he was not, so he took the pizza, wrapped it, put instructions on it to heat it and took it to the local bar and they sold out. He claims to have been the original "GENO" and have a picture of him from back in the day with the yellow box. I think he is starting to get Alzheimer's, so wanted to verify if there is any truth to this story.

I used to eat these when I was little. I wish someone would start making them, they were tasty. I'm disappointed that buitoni won't bring them back, there's a whole generation of us that miss them!

I remember the one's I used to eat growing up in Brooklyn were in a red and white box and they were called something like pizza umms. They were round and had an orange mixture inside. DELICIOUS
Lydia - September 02, 2011 - Report this comment
I loved them. The only problem is if they were frozen the insides were cold. You had to let them defrost before you toasted them. but they were good! I also loved (love, still do) the Chef Boyardee pizza mix

Oh my! I thought I was going crazy! I thought I was dreaming about those yummy crusty toaster pizzas! What I wouldn't do for one right now! But so far I have not found any links to the exact ones I'm remembering. Shawna in 2008 describes them perfectly here in this blog! I miss them! And I soooooo wish they would bring them back! I can still taste them!

Buitoni's, for sure. LOVED them and could get enough. Should have stockpiled. :-p The TV commercial craked me up: Slow camera through a door labeled "Buitoni Foods - President", slow close on am executive-type behind a huge desk, a pause of about 15-20 seconds, then he slowly says, in a thick Italian accent: "If you want me to like you.........Buy my pizzas." Then a slow zoom out. LOLOL
NJ2FLA - October 08, 2012 - Report this comment
I'm thinking it was 'Genos'pop-up pizza' those smoothe rounded discs with cheese and sauce inside, 6 to a box, you take them from their box in the freezer and pop them in the toaster to heat them up, not always heated all the way through, but rather then push them down again and wait, you'd just eat them ...still cold inside, it was a fast fix for the munchies. We didn't need no stinkin' microwaves.
cowhead - October 15, 2012 - Report this comment
i remeber something so similar from my childhood, and i've been going nuts trying to find information about these. i don't think the ones i had were buitoni though. i remember them being from pillsbury and there was a cheeseburger and grilled cheese in addition to the pizza flavor.
belle - November 19, 2012 - Report this comment
I remember them being called Nemo's but haven't found anything with that name. I described them to my husband exactly the same as the others here before I even saw these messages...the twice through the toaster because of the cold center, the burned roof of my mouth, etc..lol I can't believe they don't make them anymore. I wonder if they were regional. I grew up in New Jersey and moved in my early 20's and never saw them after that... so sad. If I could find a picture of the box, I could be sure they were the right ones. Does anyone else remember them being called Nemo's or Neno's???
Robert - December 05, 2012 - Report this comment
With the amount of baby boomers out there Buitoni would be foolish NOT to bring frozen instant pizzas back. Just pop them in the toaster. So easy. So tasty.
Perry - December 30, 2012 - Report this comment
Richard Tangle of Oakland, New Jersey was the inventor of the pop-up pizza. He was employed by Buitoni. 1967 I think.

Glenn - April 29, 2013 - Report this comment
You had to thaw them first, then toast them. Once you had that down, they were great. The crispy crust, the fennel seed. Great sauce. Why did they stop?
Aqua - June 06, 2013 - Report this comment
They made these until 1985 for sure there was the Butini brand and usually a store brand of Toaster pizza. I think the microwave craze of the late 80's made them stop selling them. Everyone wanted microwave foods and the companies went that way. I still look for them whenever I go to the grocery store in case they come back.

I'm 55 and to this day, whenever I call my mom down in Florida I ask her if she's going food shopping and if she says yes I ALWAYS ask her, as a joke, if she'll pick me up a box of Buitoni's Instant Pizza. I LOVE AND MISS THOSE THINGS!!! They were THE best and I used to eat them by the box. I wish they would bring them back. And rest assured if I ever hit the lottery, I don't care if I lose money every day on it, but I WILL bring back Buitoni Instant Pizza!!! lol

I loved the Toastem toaster pizzas. My uncle used to work for the company so I always had an ample supply. They were the best tasting thing I ever had, and then one day they just disappeared. There is nothing out there today that even comes close.

I remember eating those pizzas back in the 70's. The ones we got were individually wrapped at the grocery and you could buy as many as you wanted. They were like 25 cents each or something. I wish I could remember the brand.

Does anyone remember Thuringer sausage pizza sold at the Drive-In Theater? More 1960's than 70's I think but there's not a '60's site!
Suzanne - July 29, 2015 - Report this comment
I was hooked on these as a kid. They were made by Buitoni and were SO delicious. The crust was thin and dry and always seemed to burn but they were still incredible and the filling was to die for. I think they were taken off the market in the '90s and I never understood why. Buitoni, PLEASE BRING BACK THE TOASTER PIZZAS!
Lorenzo - January 19, 2016 - Report this comment
I never saw the Buitoni here in North Jersey. we bought Ellio's Toaster Pizza. couldn't get enough of them. freezer to toaster to plate in under 5 min. great for that 60's after school snack. wish they would come back.

I thought they were called "Pizza Rounds". They were very thin like a Pop Tart. There were a couple of flavors. The red sauce pizza flavor were the best. They were not the Buitoni ones. I think they were pillsbury.
Lisa - May 24, 2016 - Report this comment
I remember them quite clearly but forget the name. They were round and sometimes you would have to put them in the toaster one and a half times. The outer crust was crunchy and the inside was orange with sauce and cheese. I think of them and brown edge wafers every time I go grocery shopping. I look for them both as if they are going to appear. Why do they always stop selling the good stuff like Burger King tacos.

I miss those Buitoni instant toaster pizzas SO much! In the 70's as a young child my sister and I would eat those like they were going out of style. So delish and so easy. I can still imagine the taste..mmmm. If they brought them back, they would have to be the exact same..same fórmula, ingredients, etc. otherwise forget it. Write to Buitoni on their Facebook page and sign the other Facebook petition someone started. We Want Those Same Toaster Pizzas Back...Please!!

I was just thinking about this today. I don't remember who exactly made them, but I do believe they were called pop up pizzas. I do remember them being rectangular with an orange mixture inside due to the combining of cheese and sauce. They were delicious and I wish my kids could try the same exact ones. Miss them.
Lisabug37 - August 27, 2019 - Report this comment
They definitely were by buitoni and they were round. You put them in the toaster and you had pizza. I used to put them down twice and they were perfectly melted and the outside was crispy. They won’t bring them back. They are in the box with brown edge wafer cookies, green spearmint licorice, the good tasting red shoestring licorice in a box with the piece of wax paper type paper covering them, very small spearmint leaves, cashew brittle that came in a tin with baseball players on the tin, etc. The list could go on and on. They always get rid of the good stuff.
