I remember these. They were made by a company called Smedley (who also made tinned peas). Yum.

I remember when i was a kid my ma gettin a xmas hamper and to my delite it contained a tin of smedley beauties. UNrolling them was a dream come true and the taste was truly wonderful, Over the years i have often thought about these and wondered if there was a similar item on the market. . . sadly not. I remember tinned sausage rolls as something we always had in the cupboard at the caravan. When i talk about them people think that i'm making it up! They have brought back bacon grill another tinned product of the 70s so I think sausage rolls should be next!

I was just talking about these to my family and friends and they thought i as losing the plot, thanks to this site i proved my point, wish i could get a few tins used to love them.

They were lovely. The pastry used to melt in the mouth. Lovely dark pastry. Washed down with a bottle of Lemon and Lime Cresta out of the fridge. Did life get much better ?

Ah yes, this was my favourite tea as a child, tinned sausage rolls, no one I know remembers them. Surely that's a gap in the market desperate to be filled.

I used to love them ! Mum and dad left me at home in the morning, mum was at college and dad at work.. I used to stick the oven on and bake them and take them to school !! Always had finished them before I got to school !! Thank goodness mum had such a stock of them.. coz she still doesnt know that I used to steal them !!!!!...would be great to have them back in the shops I LOVED THEM and can still taste them when I remember !!!

What a food item. I dont Know anybody from my age group who didnt like them.They are a food item that should be brought back. Also very convenient to have in the cupboard

We too were talking about these gorgeous rolls at work and the amount of people who did remember them was astounding, so obviously the majority of working class households bought them. My question therefore is, "WHY DID THEY STOP MAKING THEM ?, THEY MUST HAVE BEEN A REAL BEST SELLER" and also why has no other food company taken them over?.

So glad i am not alone regarding the tinned sausage rolls, i LOVED them when i was younger, but a lot of people didn`t believe they existed, but i am glad to prove them wrong, I e-Mailed SMEDLEYS asking to bring them back.

I have been looking for these sausage rolls for years but like all of you have never managed to track them down. I couldn't remember the name of the makers....but as soon as i read the name on here it was like...yayyyyyy. I too think we should start a petition to get Smedleys to bring them back. I remember that there was only one store in town that sold them and I used to go every week and buy a few tins so i always had a stock of them. My favourite memory of them is having them at the childminders we used to go to and having them with the "thinnest" chips i have ever seen. This guy cut them by hand and i have never seen chips cut as thin in all my life but ooooo they were sooooo good :)

I am so happy to have found this!! I would sign any petition to bring these delicious sausage rolls back. It is nearly impossible to buy decent uncooked sausage rolls now, just those piddling little party ones. I remember these with such affection. Smedleys are really missing a trick there.

they were made in a factory in blairgowrie , a canning and freezetr plant , the cost of transport to major cities in the south sounded the death knell for the factory and th elack of inward investment didnt help , you could get anything from smedleys range of frozen and canned foods , ssoup , sausage rolls and beans with canned potatoes all from the same company -sadly missed , ,shame and i agree i am sure they would still sell well

omggggggg i used to live on these when i was a kid, had the full tin all to myself! I used to eat the pastry off all of them first then the meat, They were sooooooooooo delishhhh! This site is fantastic!!! As I too remember tinned sausage rolls for lunch on a Saturday they were delicious!!! My husband thought I was mad and making it up!! I'm glad I'm part of the smedley sausage roll family!!!

Smedleys tinned sausage rolls were delicious. I remember as a youngster getting scarlet fever. I was so ill I didn't eat for ages. As I started to get better & my appetite slowly began to come back the first thing I managed to hold down were Smedleys sausage rolls. I for one would be delighted if they made a comeback - using the original recipe of course.

They were canned in Blairgowrie Scotland and my Father was at the plant they were great and basically got me through Uni lol

I loved medleys tinned sausage rolls. I used to bring them back home from Bermuda and the UK all the way to Florida,USA. I still have a Smedleys label from the can of 6 sausage rolls. Oh, I wish They would bring them back.I have not seen them since the late 70’s...I COULD EAT A WHOLE BATCH OF 6.

They were very tasty. Trying to think back more critically (we didn't have a lot of choice in the 70's!) and I would still say pastry 10/10, that good you wouldn't mind if it was empty, soss filling 7 or 8 out of 10. If they came back onto the market I'd definitely buy them.

What no one mentioned of this topic was that Smedley's canned sausage rolls was a British product. A 1973 TV spot ("Sneaky Grandma") has the dialogue heavily accented. One can contained six sausage rolls.

How do we get organised to get these back everybody loved them.Take to the streets! At least the demo would be a laugh.

When i worked for the coop in the early 80's, we used to sell them. I think i bought most of what we sold, they were gorgeous. They would sell better than gregs if they were to bring them back. Let's demonstrate outside downing street and demand their return
