I am not sure if this was a 60's or 7o's food. Sergeant Top-It was a crunchy ice cream topping that I think came in a can that you shook onto ice cream. I remember seeing commercials on our black and white TV with the can marching along and the song said something like "One Two Three Four Sergeant Top-it at your store"

I LOVED this stuff when I was four years old (in 1966). The jingle went: "HUT TWO THREE FOUR WHAT IS SERGEANT TOP IT FOR? TOPPING ICE CREAM'S WHAT ITS FOR!" We used to sneak into the kitchen and take the can from the fridge and squirt it into each other's mouths. MMMMMM Chemicals and preservatives are great!

I can't believe there is no information on the internet about Sergeant Top-it. I was stationed at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO in the mid 1960's and the Sergeant Top-it commercial was on the TV several times every evening. When I returned to Michigan and told my then fiancé about it, she said yeah, sure! I never tried to buy any in a store and now, 50 years later, it's like it never existed! There must be some archives at some TV stations somewhere! "HUT TWO THREE FOUR, SERGEANT TOP-IT AT YOUR STORE! WHAT IS SERGEANT TOP-IT FOR? TOPPING ICE CREAM'S WHAT IT'S FOR! HUT TWO THREE FOUR, GET IT AT YOUR FAVORITE STORE!" Somebody must have a record of this product in their files somewhere in this country!
