My days in college (late '70's) were sustained by Sara Lee Banana Cake and coffee. Absolutely the BEST cake!

I work at an assisted living center for senior citizens and the kitchen there does get in Sara Lee Banana Cake. It's packaged for industrial use. Came across a listing once that the cake was sold at Walmart. I checked a Walmart and could not find it.

I was looking to see if this cake still is around, apparently not since everyone has just memories of it. It was amazing! I miss it. ;'( Let's all lobby Sara Lee to bring it back.

I agree 100! The banana cake with the rich "lift off" buttercream frosting is the absolute best! I haven't been able to find it for 8-10 years; but I keep looking. I finally wrote to Sarah Lee tonight. I may just have to order it and have it sent on dry ice. (Our Walmart in Plano, TX does not carry it.) I am conforted to see I'm not alone as I search in vain.

I was stunned - last night at my Pavillions supermarket on the corner of Melrose and Vine in Hollywood, California....there, could I truly believe my eyes...yes...there it was Sara Lee's Banana Cake....I haven't seen this since my Grandma Pauline had it and served me some in 1979....I bought five of them. I hope they keep them supplied and its not going to go the way of Mister Salty and cane sugar Coca Cola.

I am in New Mexico. I have been watching for Sara Lee banana Cake for over thirty years here. I contacted Sara Lee and asked why they quit making it. She said they didn't quit, but that none of the stores in New Mexico ever order it, and task ASK the stores to carry it. I have BEGGED and still can't get anyone to order it. What is the big deal? Whatever happened to customer satisfaction? I WANT MY BANANA CAKE!!!! wAAAAAHHH!!!

Hey Miriam! I too have searched for years (35!) for my beloved Sara Lee Banana Cake, Funny how it became habit to search the freezer section of any store I went in. I searched in both the states I've lived in, Cali and beautiful Washington. Really, I never quit looking! I went weak in the knees when I saw it a year ago at a Safeway in Belfair, Washington!!! Boy did I have to exercise patience since I DIDN'T HAVE ENOUGH MONEY AT THE TIME! But I left the store with a secret smile on my lips... No, it's not quite as good as I remember, (I'm sure the ingredients list contains way more artificial weirdness than it originally did) that's sure not going to stop me from buying it every now and then. Thank you Sara Lee. Oh Happy Yum! It's not everyday you find something you've spent so much of your life searching for.

In reply to "Miriam".Ive been a mixer for 20 years for Sara Lee and i totally agree with her comment, the reason it is so dry now is because quite simply it comes down to money.Years ago the cakes were made with all butter recipes, then they became part margarine, then half, then full margarine now.Put simply if we kept those original ingredients in still the cake would be much more expensive and people just dont want to pay big bucks for a simple cake. And yes it is a shame.
