Description
Rothschild was a chocolate candy that was chewy like caramel. In the commercial the character would always say, "Not now, I'm right in the middle of a Rothschild" good stuff...

I have a friend who visited me in NYC and ask for a Rothschild but alas I could find none. Anyone? Anyone?

I remember the commercial. It was a woman with sort of an opera-esque voice. She would roll her "R" when she said "Rothchilds". Funny how you remember useless stuff like that all of your life...

I changed my first and last name and got rid of my middle name back in 1975. I went through about three years of therapy and discovered that a simple name change could wipe away 18 years of abuse from my father and six years of a very bad marriage. I was going to have three names – first, middle and last. I was playing with my new name (first name is my mother’s maiden initials and Marie was a tweaking of Maria from Westside Story), signing it over and over and over again. My pen slid between the first and middle names. I realized instantly that this was the name for me. I am a unique, creative person, so why not have a unique, creative first name. I took the name “Rothchild” because of a very funny candy commercial (Rothschild candy bar): Rapunsel says to the old gnome who is asking her to let down her hair: “Not now, I’m in the middle of a Rothschild,” as she crunches away at the candy bar. My boyfriend was getting very perplexed every time my mother would call us. Of course, it was right in the middle of a passionate session of lovemaking. He waited and waited and waited for her to call after I changed my name so he could honestly say, “Not now, I’m in the middle of a Rothchild.” It never happened. (Yes, I took the "s" out of the name because I did not want to be associated with such a famous name.)

This candy was quite good, but it was a hard candy and not chocolate at all (a hard toffee). Have not seen it for years.

Does anyone recall the Rothchilds fruit chews? I know there was another flavor like hard toffee candies, but this stuff was fruit chewy and I wish I could find out where the Rothschilds were manufactured?

I do remember the fruit variety: a jelly-like chew that was coated in granular sugar. Flavors were Lemon, Lime, Cherry, Orange, and the weird one: Grapefruit! The candies were puck-shaped and the same size as the toffees. The package was metallic red with gold trim.

I loved Rothchilds but the last time I remember eating them was in October of 1978 after Oklahoma State University's Homecoming...I maybe totally wrong but I'm pretty sure they tasted like what we now call "Werther's Orgionals"....A piece of hard carmel candy and I really loved the taste, I really wished that they were still making Rothchilds☺️

After submitting my posting I found this description of Rothschild's: UNFORTUNATELY ROTHSCHILDS CANDIES ARE NO LONGER MADE BUT THE WERTHERS CANDIES ARE PRETTY CLOSE. At least I do remember what they tasted like, I really wish they still made them but I guess I will just have to stick with Werther's☺️

Thanks to 70s Kid and Totsnrocs for providing the long sought confirmation that when I was around 5 years old chewing on an absolutely delicious gummy I as in fact in the middle of a Rothschild. Brings back some darn good memories of being a kid and the happiness from a simple little treat like a roll of Rothschilds from my dad.

The Rothchild's I know were hard, butterscotch. Great rich smooth quality. They came in a roll/pack similar to lifesavers, but square. Last time I remember buying them was in the 70's. (Maybe 80's). After a Rothchild's, Werther's don't cut it.

The Rothschild's candy was pretty good. As a kid I didn't eat much candy. The stores only had the toffee ones. It was more like caramel and I don't remember it being hard in the center like what someone else wrote here...

The toffee were good, but they were softish, I think. Anyway, it was the strawberry & cream that I remember being delish. They were round little pucks, but were soft & so good. I miss those & have looked for them but never found them. This was the 80's when I last had them.
