Description
An easily disolved in milk, granulated mix. Made that nasty plain old white milk taste great!! I took it in a Baggie to school to mix with my little carton of milk everyday, The eggnog flavor was especially good! This page should be called food of the 60's & 70's, a lot of whats on it was around in the 60's too!!

I would love to know why they stopped producing this stuff. They did stop making it right?? If anyone knows the answers or where I could get some please send info. I'd love to get my hands on some of that egg nog mix!

Yeah, I love the Eggnog flavour...any hope of it coming back?
Kate - February 28, 2008 - Report this comment
I used to eat it right out of the jar with a spoon! and YES the EGG NOG was the BEST! I wonder if there was some health related issue as to why it is longer made? Cancer causing dye etc...*sigh

Another vote for Egg Nog. That was the greatest stuff in the world. I used to get a glass of milk. I would get a spoonfull and just dip it in the milk, not pour it, but dip it and eat it off the spoon. I miss that stuff.

PDQ is comfort to me. What was the name of the company that made it?!?! I wonder if they know how much affect PDQ had on us kids from the 70s!!! I WANT MY PDQ!!!
Patricia - March 26, 2008 - Report this comment
My whole family wishes for the return of PDQ, especially EGG NOG flavor. None of the current mixes blend as easily as PDQ beads.

PDQ = Pretty Damn Quick. I miss my eggnog
Kinderkat - July 03, 2008 - Report this comment
According to wikipedia, it was manufactured by Ovaltine. The article goes on to say which existing produces maybe similar to the old pdq.

I loved, loved, loved Chocolate. I used to mix it with vanilla ice cream! YUM!! It was the only chocolate milk my mom would drink. I wish they'd bring it back!!

I have written to the company who now distributes Ovaltine and requested, (ok, perhaps begged) them to reconsider marketing PDQ Eggnog to the US. Anyone else interested in voicing your feelings? helpdesk@rawlingson.star.co.uk

I loved PDQ as a kid too, and remember sprinkling it on my ice cream. Fantastic!! Chocolate ovaltine is a exact twin product as far as I am concerned. I have been telling all my friends to try it on their ice cream or just take a spoonful! It is a new fad around here!!

One more thing... mixing chocolate ovaltine with hot milk makes the best hot chocolate!!!!

If I were sentenced to death and was granted one last meal I would have to wash it down with PDQ eggnog and strawberry flavors. With a root beer fizzie chaser.
SJ - November 27, 2008 - Report this comment
Maybe we should all write Ovaltine because the PDQ EGG NOG really needs to make a comeback! Loved it.

I loved the Eggnog PDQ as a kid. We would mix it with milk, put it over vanilla ice cream, as well as sprinkling it on toast. My father concocted a wonderful egg nog recipe that used store bought egg nog, PDQ, and vanilla ice cream. I don't know the rest of the recipe, but it was really good. Of course as kids, we weren't allowed to sample the version with Brandy. I wish that Ovaltine would consider making this for the U.S. market, at least at Christmas time. When I was in England it was hard to find egg nog in the stores so I suspect it is not a British Christmas custom. But it is real big in the U.S.

Ahh, I thought I was the only crazy one who LOVED the eggnog PDQ! I tried to explain it to my eggnog loving children, how much I miss it, especially sprinkled on vanilla ice cream...and eating the chocolate kind straight out of the jar...I had forgotten about the strawberry kind! Ovaltine would have quite a market if they came back with this stuff!!
rick - January 03, 2009 - Report this comment
okay, so I'm a dissenter who really did not like the eggnog 'flavor'. But the classic Chocolate PDQ must be brought back. It's an essential. Amazing, delicious, versatile. Bring back chocolate PDQ!!!

This is remarkable. How nice to know there are others whose taste buds still yearn for the good old days of instant eggnog mix. Since there's clearly a market void here, why has no entrepreneur rushed to fill it? Where do I line up to pay for this product?

Ahh yes> I was thinking about this a little while back. I am 43 and getting very nostalgic these days. Beth and Sarah, I also liked it in my vanilla ice cream. It was crunchy little nuggets of joy which I am sure Zorak would just love! Straight out of the jar onto the spoon and into my mouth was extra yummy. I am sure my parents would wonder why it never made much chocholate milk....cuz it was all in my belly straight off the spoon. Thank goodness the jar was tall! I think that ovaltine is similar, but not the same as PDQ! I do remember the Choco and Egg Nog, but not the strawberry. Used to get Strawberry Quik though. Where is the petition to bring it back!?

I wiuld sell my sould for a jar of PDQ. I used to get it when I visited my grandmother. She always made sure I had a jar. Mom would by it when we could afford it. I LOVED IT. Where can you get itif you can?

I am so happy to have found this. I told my kids about PDQ eggnog a while back & tried to find it at the store. When we couldn't find it they of looked at me like I was crazy talking about something that existed with the dinosaurs!

I never knew it as a flavoring for milk. My great grandparents always used the chocolate PDQ for a topping on vanilla ice cream. Wish I had kept one of the old jars. Good memories of summer visits to St. Louis.

Eggnog was the best- I remember a company called Sandoz was the maker, not sure if they are the same one that makes Ovaltine. Eggnog year long was great, now it's only during the holidays

I wish it would come back.

Yes!!! I can't believe there are others out like there who are STILL MISSING PDQ eggnog mix. My grandma would always have some for us kids when we visited her in Minneapolis. We couldn't get it up by Fargo. We would sprinkle it on ice cream, too. It was wonderful! A couple years back I discovered Oregon Chai NOG, which came out around Christmas and was SO yummy..but that was discontinued TOO! Now, if I had PDQ egg nog mix, I could mix THAT into regular chai. But no, I'll have to wait until Christmas when egg nog is sold in the dairy case. I love egg nog and I would like it all year round! I'd much rather have that than chocolate milk. Who do we petition?

I loved PDQ chocolate mix, and so did my brother. I didn't know it came in strawberry and eggnog also. I would love to try those. I went to the ovaltine website and asked if they would consider bringing it back. Maybe if more people did the same, they would consider it!!!!!

Love chocolate PDQ! I also used to sprinkle it on my ice cream. Did it also come with stickers of girls or boys with hair covering one eye?

Just watched the show "Unwrapped" on the FOOD channel and they mentioned the Store "Hometown Favorites" www.hometownfavorites.com Checked it out and although they have lots of "forgotten" items, they had PDQ on their "unable to get" list. If I knew how to locate and purchase the recipe, I know I'd start making it again. Any businessmen reading this?

I to just watched "Unwrapped" and did hte same thing. I have looked for this for years and it is so upsetting to not be able to find it. I sure wish they would bring it back so our kids and grandkids could appreciate it as much as we all did as kids.

It's really funny to read all these posts! I came across this site because I was wondering what the stuff was. My Grandma passed away about a year ago and I'm a foodie. She had a full sealed jar of the Eggnog flavor PDQ in her pantry and it is one of the things I took from the estate - because I thought it was a great piece of food history. After reading this post - I'll have to try it. cheers!

I have a recipe for a christmas cookie that uses chocolate or eggnog beads. 1/2 cup butter, 1 cup flour, 3/4 cup beads. Spritz and bake at 375 for 8-10 minutes. I love them, but of course have been without for many years as I cannot find a substitute.

I still have a little bit left. PDQ was from Sandoz. Or that is what it says on the can.
