Thank God I found this page. No one believes me about this product. I tried to get in touch with Wonka Candies myself and they said there was no such thing. At least I know I'm not nuts!!!

I've been checking on these, too. Can't seem to find anything on them, but I sure remember them. I loved those peanut butter and chocolate candies. Kind of like peanut butter M&M's, but much better!

I loved these as a kid and miss them terribly! Please, Please put them back into production. Big M&Ms with chocolate and peanut butter, but so much better than yucky m&ms.

What I remember about these was the way they were designed. They were peanut butter on one side and chocolate on the other. So you could bite through one along the edge, and separate the flavors that way. Somehow this made them taste better.

I loved these as a kid the peanut butter M&M's don't hold a candle to the original oompas & then Willy Wonka re-introduced them as a fruity candy very bad move on W.W. just bring back the original oompas & everybody will be happy again. I too would bite them in half I liked the peanut butter side better so I would eat the chocolate side first.

I LOVED Oompas! No one else in my life seems to remember this awesome candy except for me! Glad to read that there are others like me out there. I wonder if there is any way we could get together and petition the Willy Wonka Candy people and see if they still have the recipe somewhere and could make these again?
Paul M - February 13, 2009 - Report this comment
Yes these were great! They re-introduced them except now they are fruit chews. Used to be peanut butter/chocolate candy coated and larger than M&M's. Why must they mess with good things?

These were my FAV'S....I have been looking for them everywhere....even the "old time candy" people dont seem to remember them. I too tried the Willy Wonka Company and got nowhere.

Oh my Gosh, I loved these and am so happy to know you all did too. I think people thought my sister and I were crazy because no one seems to remember Oompas...loved the name loved the candy, I too love to bite it in half and eat the flavors separately! Let's try to get WW to make them again!!!!!!!!!

I'm SO SO SO glad to have found out that I am not and was not going CRAZY!!!! I loved these candies in my teen years, and still craving them in my 40's. Willy Wonka should not have stopped making them. M&M's and Reeses =1/4 star, Oompas=1000 stars! Bring them back, bring them back!!!
cj in nebraska - September 26, 2009 - Report this comment
I agree !!! PLEASE bring oompahs back. They are way better , m&m's and reese's just don't compare. They can recreate just about anything, why not this yummy candy favorite? Come on Willy Wonka, you can do it !

Oompas, Oompas, bring them back! I used to buy them in the bulk candy section at National supermarkets! That was 20 years ago...haven't seen them since...and I really miss them! I want them back!

I was starting to think I had just imagined these candies - the big fat peanut butter oompas that I used to cherish as a child in the 70s. Any time I tried to find them all I came up with were the fruity ones. Thank you all for making me feel sane again!

Now they say Oompah's were chewy things (like skittles), but we know better. they were the best - but, alas, the good times are gone...
Christine - April 19, 2010 - Report this comment

I loved Oompahs as well. They came out in the mid '80's. And, as most have noted, they were great. But Wonka got out of the Chocolate business and they were discontinued. I contacted the company and they wrote back informing me of this. They included a $2 off coupon for their candy in their letter. It was a "Golden Ticket" like they had in the original movie. It looked so neat, I never actually used it. Wonka then came out with the fruit candy/Skittles product and recycled the name (I never cared much for these). Apparently, "Oompahs" is a bad luck name because it also got discontinued after a relatively short time. Now, Wonka has gotten back into the chocolate market recently, so maybe they will resurrect the original Oompah's, perhaps under a different name. (I have no inside information, I'm just speculating).

Mike, if you still have that "Golden Ticket" coupon, I'd love to buy it from you...I buy old Wonka candy wrappers and related items...

Isn't it strange what you find on the web. I too LOVED these candies! No one I know even remembers them. I was about to search where to buy them. I do hope Wonka will make them again, they were the best!

Ha...I was just talking to my wife about this candy, and she remembers them too. Definitely my favorite WW candy and much, much better than Reeses pieces. Would love if they brought these back.

It is really odd how a few of us can remember these and most of the people we know in our lives have never heard of them. I loved them as a kid and yes now in my 40's I soooooo wish I had some today!!

M & M's have now come out with a new peanut butter variety. Took me back to the Oompa days! If we all start buying Mars new product, WW may decide it would be financially prudent to find their recipe!!!

OOMPAH candies go back to about 1974. A cartoon Willy Wonka appeared on the label. These were a close rival to Mars M&Ms. I believe Nestle (Kraft) made them all along. OOMPAHS had a slightly chalky texture to them.
gwen - May 28, 2012 - Report this comment
Has anyone heard anything from WW regarding producing the original Oompahs again? Saw numerous people had contacted them, but appears they aren't planning on recreating? Too bad as they were so good!
