When I was in junior high, I was trying to save money in addition to my allowance for something or other. So I took my lunch money, bought a Milkshake Bar, and pocketed the rest. I saved up quite a bit and just loved those Milkshake Bars.

does anyone know the jingle to this candy bar? I remember as a kid seeing two dancing cartoon cows singing something like: Milkshake, boom-boom! Milkshaek, boom-boom! The chocolate coated candy bar!! ...or something along those lines
Montel - August 15, 2008 - Report this comment
Its Milkshake, boom-boom! Milkshake, boom-boom! The delicious Moolicious candy bar MOOOOOLicious!!!! It was 2 bi-pedal cows in tutus one pink the other yellow. When they said BOOM BOOM they did the Bump. They were made by Hollywood Candy in Centralia, IL. Which is my hometown. That was the best candybar ever made!

Did you ever have them FROZEN? They were the best! Hot summer days at the lake up north MN-nothing better than that! Hollywood---please bring them back!!!

Ever since Hurricane Katrina something has made me want a Milkshake Candy bar like never before! I have been hunting, asking, looking, hoping stores like Cracker barrel and Economy Candy in NY would have them, but no such luck. Frozen...oh yeah..the best-inexpensive-leaves-you with-a-great-taste-and-craving-for-more candy bar! Too bad it's gone!

I've been trying to explain these candy bars to my kids - my husband thinks I'm nuts. We used to go to Lakewood Swimming Pool in the summer and they sold them frozen. They were sooo good. How and why did they quit making these things? My kids think a Kit-Kat is really good - it's sooo sad!

Good God, what an inspiring discussion! YES! Milkshake Candy Bars!! Even now I tell my kids stories about how good they were, how we had a box of them frozen at the beach every summer, how perfect they were in every way. It's deeply tragic to think that one can't even find a picture of the wrapper on line!!

While URL's are not allowed here, you might check out the following site for an ad for the Milkshake bars: theimaginaryworld (add the obligatory w's and com) and then add the slash; finally add the nwcal9 with a period and the jpg extension on it). I hope this brings back memories

Oh my god, these candybars were so good I loved them. Anyone know where or if they are still available?

The Meadows Theater in Queens, NY, sold a Milkshake candy bar for five cents in the 50s-60s. If you wanted a frozen one, it came on a stick and it cost six cents. I believe the stick had the name embossed on it.

For some reason I couldn't find them in Ohio where I grew up but when we went to my Grandmother's house in West Virginia we would stop for gas and they would always have them in the stores there. I was devastated to find out they were no longer being made!

I had my first milkshake candy bar when I was a kid. It had taken over 20 years of searching to find it again. I found it on a trip to Pennsylvania. I bought a case of them and had them frozen. It was 20 years in waiting. Thanks for the memory.

My dad ran a beach concession every summer on Cape Cod in Falmouth MA. One of the absolute best sellers was the Milkshake candy bars, frozen of course and with the stick that had the the name on it. I remember helping sometime, putting the sticks in the candy bar to get them ready to be frozen. The maker just gave us the sticks with the name on it, I think they came in each box. The company promoted the "frozen" milk shake that's for sure. I did read somewhere that Hollywood Candy sold off its candy bar recipes to a major candy company. So the rights to it are still out there they just choose not to make them. The last one I got was in 1995 or 1996. There was only one small store in Hyannis MA that I could find them at. The wrapper at that point had pink lettering as opposed to the green lettering most would remember. It did taste just as good and I did freeze a few. Someone needs to convey to the new owners that they need to make them again, even if it where a limited run. Vince

Totally the best candy bar fresh or frozen that I remember growing up. It is hard to explain to anyone that has not had the oppurtunity to taste them. I tried to tell my 11 year old son about them and wanted one, but was saddened to hear that they are lonnnng gone. So I told him we would check the internet to see if I could order some, but alas this was all we could find. Sad, that nobody makes these anymore.

Used to only see them at the canteen at camp (Brant Lake) in upstate NY. Much better than the others.

Does anyone know a recipe for these? This was my wife's favorite candybar - BY FAR. Since they are no longer in production, I thought I might be able to find a recipe to make our own.

Does anyone remember how the wrapper would stick to the caramel that oozed out of one side of a Milk Shake?
eileen - August 02, 2009 - Report this comment
Yes, I remember how some caramel would ooze out and make the wrapper stick. My family thinks I am nuts too, talking about a candy bar they never heard of! Never had them frozen, but love, loved them! WHO made them??????
Eileen - August 05, 2009 - Report this comment
Yes, I remember how good they were. I too thought that they were better than Milky Ways and 3 Musketeers. They weren't as sweet. I sure wish they would bring them back again!

Very cool, that so many remember this outstanding candy bar and if your local mom and pop did not have some frozen starting in June, then you were going to the wrong grocer!

I remember a man selling them from a camper-style candy concession on the beach on our 1975 vacation. In the mid-90s I found them at a Discount Drug Mart in Ohio. Glad to know I'm not the only one who remembers Milk Shakes fondly!

When I think of Milkshake bars...I think frozen, on a stick and sold at the Little League concession stand. I own a convenience store...and sell frozen Milky Ways on a stick..that I insert myself...not quite the Milkshake, though...I was so big that candy bar...and remembering it...makes me smile. Little League...and a Frozen Milkshake bar. Summertime, at it's finest. :)

The Milkshake bar was owned by the hollywood candy company, started In 1933, they Invented the fluffy nougat that Mars copied for the 3 Muskateers bar. Hollywood also made the zero bar and payday, I always loved both the zero bar and Milkshake and also remember having the Milkshake bar at my local swimming pool, they never put sticks In them but they were alys frozen and as I recall they only sold 2 candy bars at my pool and the other bar was a zagnut bar because It wouldn't melt In the heat. I recall that both bars were very reasonable and very good. I recall the Milkshake bar being bigger, cheaper and much better than 3 Muskateers, Milkshake bars were not as sweet and might have had a slight malt taste and fluffier. Leaf bought Hollywood In 1988 and now the Hollywood brands are owned by Hershey. Its a shame because of the 3 most popular Hollywood bars (Milkshake, Payday and Zero) that Hershey chose not to make Milkshake.

for years I've been talking to people about this candy bar. Had my last one 30 years ago. Still the best candy bar I've ever had. No one believes me, or they think that I have overated them. these bars are the truth and should be made again. With so many other people with the same feeling, I know I'm not nuts.

I SOOOO remember swimming lessons in Peru, IL when I was about 5 years old. I couldn't wait to get in line after lessons to get my Milkshake candy bar. My story is pretty much the same as all the others. People look at me like I'm crazy when I talk about this candy bar. I sure miss that taste! Far better than any candy bar today!!! PLEASE BRING THEM BACK!
Genny - October 21, 2009 - Report this comment
Would anyone like to do a petition to Hershey to revive it? There are an awful lot of people here who miss it and would buy it again.

I have to have a milkshake candy bar right now! Let's have a million man or woman march to hershey pennsylvania and demand our rights! I blame the Obama administration for not funding these candy bars! New Candy bars turned in for old!

Today I took a nap and dreamed about a Milkshake candy bar. It was like I was reliving a childhood memory. I thought to myself I haven't seen one of them In years. It is real sad that they don't make them any more. While looking on-line for those, I saw another candy bar I remembered, the butternut bar. Those were the best candy bar in the world

We had them every time we went to the movies. Of course you had to have it frozen. Remember those days when you could sit and watch the same movie over and over for the same admission price?

My sister who is 9.5 years older than me used to drive me downtown to Edna's Drive-in in Davenport Washington when I was in grade school to get a frozen Milkshake Bar. We were just reminiscing about our old home town because our mother just passed away. This is a great memory of my childhood. I agree with Eggbert's October 25th comments. The Obama administration needs to create a federal program for candy bar reform. Possibly a candy bar Czar!!! By the way Jeff, what or who is a Pepere?

I've never had a Milkshake bar.Frozen or otherwise.I am a big fan of the ZERO bar and have been since I was a kid.My 11 yr old daughter is a fan too now. After all the comments I truly wish I could have at least tried one. Candy extinction is a travesty.Seriously,I don't see a problem bringing back some of these delightful "antiques".Who would it hurt? It's candy!

Yes, milkshake bars were my favorite as a kid. Not everyone carried them. Three Muskateers and Milky way are almost indedible because they are so cloyingly sweet. Milkshake wasn't. Not as good as Heath, but Hershey's should bring them back.

I have only ever had a Milkshake bar once in my life. We were on vacation. 20 years later I still remember and crave that candy bar!
