I remember Fruit Float being so good and easy to make. Too bad someone doesn't bring it back, that and Space Food Sticks. They tasted GREAT then but I wonder if they still would?
Vanessa P - December 02, 2008 - Report this comment
Is it possible to purchase some of this wonderful dessert?
Velvet Cyberpunk - March 30, 2009 - Report this comment
I've already talked about this fabulous dessert in the F section here, but I had to clear up a mistake. Fruit Float didn't come in layers, that was 123 dessert by Jell-O. As you can see from the picture Fruit Float was like a fruity pudding and it had bits of fruit in it. Oh my it was so good!

Even though it's been more than 30 years, I can still vividly recall the flavor. Ours was always peach and I don't know if there were other flavors as well.

Fruit float would NOT separate into 3 layers--that was a jello product- "Jell-o 123"

Up until 30 seconds ago, I could not remember the name of the product, but I remembered fondly how good it was. Then, with no prodding, the name Fruit Float came into my head. I googled the name and here I am. My favorite flavor was peach.

Oh my goodness! It was the best ever! Why did they quit making it? I would buy cans of it because I was afraid I would run out before the next visit to the grocery. Yummmmmmmy!

Wow! This brings back memories. I remember my sister and I arguing over the last "cup" of fruit float in the fridge. With the back and forth, it fell on the floor. WWWAAAAAA..... We still remember that. It came in a can and you added milk and let it set.

For two weeks now I was thinking about Fruit Float and wondered what ever happened to it. So Lo and behold I go online to find it and here it is. This is a positive memory for me from my childhood.

Like some of you, I too loved fruit float. For its close companion try Activa yogurt strawberry flavor. Its taste is very close to what I remember of fruit float.
Darren - February 20, 2010 - Report this comment
Try "Activia" LIGHT peach yogurt, it reminds me of the peach fruit float a little bit. It was such a great treat!!
Angela Yankasky - March 05, 2010 - Report this comment
Yogurt doesn't even come close to that wonderful tasty treat. I remember my dad worked for Winn-Dixie in the 70's and I would call him all the time for peach fruit float and or pineapple sorbert. I was very hooked on that yummy product. I wish I could get it to share the flavor with my kids.

It is funny that someone mentioned Activia Yogurt tasting like fruit float. I was eating Activia blueberry and that made me think of fruit float and i googled it. So if you miss fruit float try Activia.

You know,as an adult I can't seem to figure out why this appealed to me as a child;all I know is I was CRAZY for this stuff! Couldn't get Enough!(and couldn't say "Fruit Float" 3 times fast!)

I've found a Fruit Float TV commercial that aired on "Happy Days" in mid-1974. It begins with a can of the stuff with a pull-string attached to it. A finger pulls it, the "LIBBYS, LIBBYS, LIBBYS" tune is heard. The commercial has the Libby Girl near the end, offering the doll of her likeness. The Libby Girl talking doll (made by Mattel) was only available as a mail-in premium, and was not sold in stores. You had to buy about ten dollars worth of Libby products (20-25 labels) to get one. I would guess that less than fifty thousand were made, making her a little scarce. In mint condition, the Libby Girl doll is worth $110 to $120 on the collectible market, providing the talk device works. I bought one at an antique store for $20. Fairly good shape, with original hair ribbons and shoe laces. Doesn't talk, though.

I'm not sure why they stopped making it, but based on the interest and comments here, they need to bring it back! I loved, loved, loved the peach and strawberry. Thought about it for years...decided to google it today. What a surprise to see how many others loved it. Libby's...PLEASE BRING IT BACK!!!

FRUIT FLOAT was the absolute best. I remember it very fondly from when I was a kid in the early 1970s. So down right nummy. I still miss it. Hey Libbey or even another company why not repackage Fruit Float for a new generation in a new millennium?

I am a Fruit Float fan too! No one I know even remembers it. And if they think they do, they are usually referring to the Jello 123. Does anyone think Activia Yogurt tastes similar?

I've asked a few people if they remember it but no one does so I searched the internet and found this site. I loved Fruit Float. My parents bought it at our local A&P. Great stuff!

I can still remember the yummy taste and texture of the peach Fruit Float! My mom used to make it on TV dinner nite, which was also "Happy Days" nite. Mom recently passed away and my dad died a few years back. I thought they would be the only ones who could have helped me remember the name of this dessert. Thanks for keeping this sweet memory alive!!

I, too, was eating Activia (mixed berry) when "fruit float" popped into my head and here I am :) ... Just like the other commentators, happy memories - and yes, space sticks are right up there, too!

Does any one know the INGREDIENTS?? This was my fovorite desert in the 70s especially the raspberry flavor. Again does anyone know how to make it at home? Why won't Libby's make this great product again or at least allow people to recreate the ingredients at home If they wont produce the product...

I remember fruit float so well. I remember putting in a can of cold milk stirring and yummy. Peach and strawberry were my favorites. "When it says Libbys Libbys Libbys on the label label label, you will like it like it like it on your table table table." LOL! I always remember the logos!

I recall this product from when I was a kid. It basically was an unhealthy version of yogurt like what ice cream is to frozen yogurt. I'm thinking it was not on the market for long. I just recall it being around in the 73-74 time period may have been around a little longer. Some one who remembers better feel free to clear that up. I'm just going by memory. I also agree Activia yogurt in a same flavor that Fruit Float came in tastes almost exactly like what I remember Fruit Float tasting like.

I remember the cans and they had little colored bubbles on them in color of the flavor in the can. Pink for strawberry and so on. My grandma used to mail them to us overseas as we lived in Germany at the time as a military family. Always looked forward to grandmas boxes and fruit float!!

My Mom worked for Libby's in Morton, Illinois when I was growing up. They primarily packaged Libby's pumpkin pie mix, but in the "off" season they would often run other products, including Fruit Float! She was able to bring home samples, so we had a lot of cans available. My favorite was also peach, and every time I have peach flavored yogurt I long for Fruit Float!

I remember eating Fruit Float when a cousin spent the night. I was only 5 yrs old but I remember that night because I told him how much I loved it and he snuck Chiclet gum into it and tricked me and said it comes with gum too at least the one he had at home. Ive search theproduct many times and never saw anything until today. Some how its comforting. Wish they still made it old package and all.
