Sunshine made them. There was also a Cherry variety that tasted like cherry Jolly Ranchers coated in powdered sugar!

Agreed. Lemon Coolers were my FAVORITE as a child and would still be to this day if they were still available. Every time we would hit the beach my mom would always bring a box of them. They were perfect and such a great memory. I have vivid memories of me walking around the house eating a whole box at a time. How I loved them. The best.

Archway cookies makes a fantastic snack sized cookie called "iced lemonade." I found them recently at a Hudson's Treasure Hunt. I don't know if they have them in my area, I was just happy to find a cookie comparable to Lemon Coolers sans the powdered sugar!Archway also makes a larger, soft cookie called "frosty lemon" that are equally as tasty

We had an Alta Dena dairy on the corner of our street that used to sell Lemon Coolers and I remember our neighbor would come to visit and she would usually bring some with her...mmmmm they were sooooo good!

Target carries a cookie called Lemon Straws- Archer Farms. Just as good as lemon coolers, not as much though.

i think it's a shame to no longer sell the DELICIOUS lemon coolers, they were the BEST EVER!! I suggest all who miss them and want 'em back, to start a petition, QUICK!!!

I could eat a whole box in a day, and i remember the days of the lemon coolers, how i wish they would bring them back for today's generation to ENJOY!!! They are and ALWAYS WILL BE THE BEST!!!

They discontinued these sometime in the 90's. My husband and I ate them as children, then when we got together in the 90's. I wish they would poll people before they discontinue things!

Omg, Lemon Coolers. And Cherry Coolers. To die for. The coating actually did have a cooling sensation on your tongue.

They were made by Sunshine. Then Nabisco bought Sunshine and stopped making them because lemon coolers were Sunshines #1 selling cookie and Nabisco didn't want people to keep calling them Sunshine cookies (which people were doing)-----It had to do with name recognition. They still have the recipe, though.
Darwin - April 22, 2010 - Report this comment
The ones made by Niche don't have the lemon baking chips in them. I found a good recipe that can be changed up a little bit. At Loranns Oils website, they have a link for recipes. Look up the Key Lime cookies recipe, and instead of using lime oil, use lemon oil instead. Add your own lemon baking chips and voila. Make the baking chips by melting white chocolate chips, add some lemon flavoring oil, spread on waxed paper, let dry and crumble up. There you have it!

Biringer Farm Fresh from Seattle carries these cookies, called Lemon Tea cookies and they make them in 6 flavors. The are bite sized little butter cookies that are really lemony then rolled in powered sugar.Biringer Farm Fresh Cookies are available on Amazon.

Darwin's right. Any old lemon cookie with powdered sugar on it won't do. The unique thing about Lemon Coolers was the little lemony bits inside. It's not the same without them.

I have looked every where for Lemon Coolers My Mother would buy these for my Father in the 70's and 80's. Niche Foods Lemon Cookies taste like the ones that Sunshine made.I found them at Dollar General.

My art class and I have looked high and low for lemon coolers and have tasted all contenders you have mentioned here, however as one of you mentioned...none of these imposters have that cool taste that you get with the original. We need to write to Sunshine, or Nabisco and plead to them to bring them back

Lemon Coolers are once again available at Wal Mart. 14 1/2 ounces for $2.47. They're not wuite as " dusted " with the white lemon powder, but they're good. Sept. 5 2011

I have searched online and called many stores trying to find lemon coolers.I have been searching for at least 6 hours. They were sold by Sunshine and than Sunshine sold out. If you go online and google BigOven.com or RecipeCottage.com you can find a recipe(same one) to make these cookies. I haven't tried making them yet, as I just found the recipe tonight. But I will give it a try. I have been craving these cookies for years and I would love to see if they taste the way I remember them.I live in North Carolina and I went as far as Georgia to find them. There is a website where you can buy the copycat version of them. www.nichefoodsco.com. Hope I saved somebody all the hours that I have spent searching. Good Luck!!!!!

Back in 2006 Little Brownie Bakes sold Lemon Coolers thru the Girl Scout Cookie drive. Little Brownie is owned by Keebler who bought Sunshine. For 2012 the cookies are back and renamed Savannah Smiles. The 2006 version was a dead on copy of the Sunshine cookie, hopefully the 2012 version will be too!

Please. All of you you keep referring to Lemon "Cookies" as Lemon "Coolers"... don't. The Lemon Cookies brand that is sold at Dollar General and at Walmart are NOT Lemon Coolers. Stop sending people on wild goose chases because if you had ever eaten an actual Lemon Cooler brand cookie you would have known at first bite that they are not one in the same. And, that's a shame, because it means that you never had a taste of what was genuinely the best cookie ever.

@Darwin & KC-you tewo hit the nail right on the head: those little lemony bites in the cookie. I have not found any brand that has included this key ingredient. Sometimes I wonder about those rocket scientists sitting in the board rooms making stupid decisions. Nabisco should have re-boxed the ccookies and given them a new name. If it's not broken why throw it away??? Darwin thx for the info will try my own. If it works maybe I'll box and sell tehm! LOL

Charles Chips made THE BEST lemon cookies EVER!!! The lemon cookies sold by Girl Scouts are pretty good, but the Charles Chips lemon cookies made you actually pucker when you took that first bite and the lemony confectioner's sugar hit your tongue. Sometimes I crave that sweet, tart taste of Charles Chips lemon cookies.

The only thing close I have found are the Lemon cookies at the Dollar General. I take these and put them in a gal zip lock bag and sprinkle Lemonaid Koolaid (Unsweeten) over them and shake. Sprinkle to taste. Gives it little bit of citus twang. Love to eat these with a big glass of Sweet Tea.

Vermont Country Store has cookies that are almost as good as the original Lemon Coolers, and they have the bits in them. The Savannah Smiles girlscout cookie is not even close! Honestly, I think when Keebler bought out Sunshine, they stopped making them because of jealousy. People need to stop buying Keebler.
Kathi - November 12, 2012 - Report this comment
Unless Sunshine comes back and makes them, NOTHING will compare. I miss them dearly. I would eat a whole box when I was a kid. Those bits on the inside are what makes the cookie and you can't find those anywhere.

Keebler did buy Sunshine, my faher drove a truck for them. I do have a secret though. once a cookie recipe is donated to the Girl Scouts, the company no longer makes that cookie. So...there is a cookie that tastes exactly like the Lemon Coolers, called Savannah Smiles. aIe

Oh, wow! I'd forgotten all about these, but they were part of summer - nothing like swimming in the freezing cold creek, until our lips turned blue, then going home and sitting in the hot Mississippi sun while munching on lovely, delicious Lemon Coolers!

Lemon Coolers!!! Just thinking of them makes me feel like a kid again. Best cookie of all time. I would pay $$$s for a box. Everyone would eat a whole box at a time. Kebler sell recipe to Girl Scotts or bring them back as special addition.
Kat - March 08, 2015 - Report this comment
Just tried the "Savannah Smiles" cookie, so dry and very little lemon flavor or powdered sugar. Sunshine Lemon Coolers are just that, they are cool, lemony and melt in your mouth, more of a confection than a cookie.

You can make your using ready made shortbread (any kind like Walkers), some lemons and baking sugar. Cut the lemon in half, squeeze a few drops of lemon juice, enough to soak into the shortbread biscuit, let it soak in and dry. Then put the baking sugar in a container like a plastic bag, and then place the shortbread in the bag. Seal the bag and then shake the contents so they mix together. You now have lemon coolers!
