I loved Koogle Banana Peanut Butter so much as a kid, and am so sad that it's disappeared! I remember coming home from 7th grade, famished, and eating an entire jar with a spoon! I never liked the chocolate or cinnamon flavor very much. How fun to see it featured on your site...can I buy it anywhere?

my husband to be has shared some of his most memerable moments as a child. When he shared this particular story his excitement prompted me to research "Koogle" and I am so surprised to see that he was not the only one to share the sove for this peanut butter spread. So I wonder why they don't still sell this peanut butter spread anymore.

I remember Koogle very well , as a part of a child's unnecessary nutritional needs... Cinnamon was very amazing on toast ( i can smell it now..or can i just smell burnt toast ? lol ) And the commercial ? Kind of like a Kool-Ade character , with the lines " Here comes Koogle, with the Koog-koog-koogley EYES !" Bring back this stuff , so kids of this generation can have something to fondly wax nostalgic about , instead of 9,000 chemical food additives we suffer with today !!!!

I loved Koogle as a kid. When it disappeared off the shelves, I always wondered what happened to the best peanut butter spread. I remember seeing it on the shelves in the local "mayflower grocery store". Anyway, I've told the wife about this stuff and she does not remember it. Nice to see other people remember this stuff too. :)

I love that Banana Koogle too. I used to live on that fabulous peanut butter in the 70's. I've been looking for it or something like it for a long time. I sure miss it. I wish Kraft would bring it back.

Nobody at my work has heard of it either and thought I was crazy. Had to pull up this site to prove it existed. I was totally addicted to the banana Koogle when I was a kid! It was the bomb!

I did a web search because for some reason I couldn't get the jingle out of my head. The cinnamon was my favorite - on toast, of course, or graham crackers. The banana and vanilla were good too. The chocolate wasn't quite up to the same standard - it's hard to make a decent chocolate spread. I wish I could share some of it with my 3 boys now. My oldest is about made of peanut butter. I'd love to see Kraft reintroduce it too.
Brian - March 01, 2008 - Report this comment

Koogle!!! Oh, how I loved Koogle in the early 70's! I remember eating the vanilla and cinnamon. It was so good you could eat it off a spoon, didn't even need bread! It had a very distinct flavor and I never could understand why they quit making it?! So many people I work with don't remember this great food of the 70's! Too bad for them!! HA

Any Koogle fans remember the jingle that went "Here's looking at You-gle Koo-gle?" That's the part I remember. Banana was the ULTIMATE. Wish I had a glob of it right now. And whoever said it did have a taste like nothing else was absolutely right. I'll sign that petition any day.

I was ADDICTED to this stuff when I was a kid in the 70's. I couldn't get enough of it, especially the chocolate. I would beg my mom to buy it for me and bug other neighborhood kids if they had it. I can't remember what I put it on, though, probably ate it right out of the jar. What store carries a chocolate peanut butter in Canada? I live there now so I would go grab it in a heartbeat!

I lived on the Banana Koogle. I actually forgot about it through my adult years, but had a garage sale last year and found a Koogle LID in the pocket of an old coat I was selling! And my husband actually ate it as a kid also! Anyhow, the closest I've come to a similar taste is using regular peanut butter, and then spreading Nutella on top of the peanut butter - when the two are mixed together, it has a similar taste to the chocolate Koogle.

I grew up in a military family of 7. We shopped at the base commissary and Koogle was a staple AND a treat in our household. It was great on just about anything! Man, what a great food thing... Kraft would be foolish not to bring it back. They have a built-in fan base, ready to introduce it to a new generation (our kids)! My siblings and I actually still use "koogle" in our speech, 30-some years later. (It means someone with crazy eyes). Koogle eyes! I loved the stuff.

Peanut butter was a pretty great invention and it was a popular staple at my house growing up. Although, peanut butter was enjoyed for years as a youngster, peanut butter sandwiches could get boring at times just from the same old flavor. Then, it happenned, peanut butter with assorted flavors is available at your local supermarket! It's Koogle! You got to love those TV commercials - "Here comes Koogle, with the Koo-Koo Koogley Eyes" I think I tried all the flavors, but my favorite was the banana flavor. And then sadly, one day it was gone, and then it was back to ol' boring peanut butter again.

Ah, Koogle, the survival food for any childs fort in the back yard. My mother could never figure out why she could not keep it in the cabinet. I remember sleeping out in the back yard as my first camp outs, for survival rations, Dr. Pepper, Bananna Koogle, and a spoon.
Shawn - July 01, 2008 - Report this comment
Listen, Koogle was very expensive compared to regular peanut butter. Most mothers would not splurge for it and this is why most people did not remember it. Also I do not think it was as healthy for kids, back when people really cared about eating good. The other thing to remember is the jar was very small. I had 4 sisters and we only got it a couple times. There was another copy cat brand that came out and put swirls of jelly in the peanut butter as well. If it was still around it would not be as special of a memory.

I too remember koogle from my childhood. There is a product called Nutella that my son has on his sandwiches that reminded me so much of the chocolate Koogle that we used to have the first time I caught a smell of it, although Nutella is a chocolate/hazelnut spread. Try that if you can get it, it might just do the trick :o)

Man, this stuff was horrible. My stepmother was an executive assistant to one of the top guys at the local Kraft factory (in Atlanta) and when they discontinued this product, she got cases of Koogle. We poor kids were then told that no more peanut butter would be bought until the Koogle was eaten. (BTW, Jif Creamy is one of my 5 Desert Island foods, so I especially hated, loathed, and despised Koogle). When my father divorced her 1.5 years later, I celebrated as it meant that REAL peanut butter would be allowed back in the house! Happy day! Chocolate was the worst. The cinnamon was... palatable. Banana was almost as bad as chocolate.

I loved the chocolate flavor when I was a kid. I would spread it on saltine crackers and go through almost a whole jar watching Saturday morning cartoons if mom didn't stop me..haha. Nutella is not even a close comparison (yuck). Bummer when some pencil-pusher decides that a product is no longer wanted or selling like they think it should. It seems like whenever I really like something, they quit making it...aarggh.

When I was in fifth grade, Koogle had already been discontinued for probably five or six years. My class was sitting on the floor of the classroom, listening to the teacher read. I was leaning back against a shelf that had a bunch of recycled jars with craft supplies in them. I was stunned to see one was an empty Koogle jar. I whispered to my friends, "Oh my God! Remember this stuff?!" No one else did. And this was back then! I'm heartened to see there are others that remember it thirty-plus years later!

I don't think I had any other flavor besides banana, but I still remember how good it tasted. I recently searched for another brand of banana peanut butter and found P.B. Loco. Unfortunately, it just isn't the same, even though it contains real bananas. Maybe that's the problem... Koogle probably had some sort of artificial flavor that is no longer used.

The year,1972. Atlanta,-I was a 9 year old koogle-junkie! We kept 3 jars in the pantry; banana, cinnamon, and chocolate. Now I live in Germany and make my own swirling Nutella and PB, or Schoko Mac and PB. Also Kaba Banana Powder and PB. But nothing will replace the real taste of Koogle. Thanks for memories. Auf Wiedersehen. Heidelberg,Teresa

It's been about 30 years since I heard that Koogle jingle, but it's still with me, sort of like a fungal infection that won't go away. What exactly are Koogely eyes and why would "the Koogle" having Koogely eyes make anyone want to buy the peanuty product? Anyway, despite the absurd (but remarkably memorable) advertising, the product wasn't too bad. It probably wouldn't be hard to reproduce most of the Koogle variants in the kitchen. Hey, maybe the absurd (but very memorable) Koogle advertising actually killed the market for Koogle?

Koogle was designed to not stick to the roof of kids' mouths, (the oil/grease probably helped make that possible). I think they were criticized for having a very low peanut content. As a kid I loved it anyway.

Although I'm in TN, I grew up in New Jersey. I was recently trying to tell someone here about Koogle they were close to my age 42 and I thought that they would've remembered but they didn't so of course like many others on here you start to wonder if you are crazy, then I wondered if maybe it wasn't sold in the South? But I sang them the jingle and no memory they just laughed at me. Now I feel better finding this. In the mid 70's my sis and I saw it on tv and bugged mom constantly until she bought it, chocolate for my sister and banana for me. We ate it and went crazy on it for a month or so, then we tired of it and mom asked us,"are you kids gonna eat this stuff anymore or do I have to throw it away?" I think it got pitched. Wouldn't mind trying it again as an adult to see if the lure is still there.

I loved Koogles as well. It seems very few people remember this peanut butter mix. It was soooo good! I wrote Kraft around six months ago and ask why did they stop making this and if they ever plan on re-introducing it again. To my surprise Kraft did write back and indicated (bad news) the market wasn't their for Koogles and they regret to say this product would not be coming back. Well at least we'll have it in our memories.

Shawn - Food was tame in the 70s compared to the garbage we have now, and about the peanut butter jelly swirl, that was/is GooberGRAPE and it's been around probably a lot longer than you have been! Koogle was some good stuff. I loved the chocolate
Paula - February 22, 2009 - Report this comment
The reason I "Googled" Koogle today is because I was doing some decluttering and came across a jar(empty of course) & 6 lids from Koogle. As you can guess I'm a bit of a packrat. My kids loved Koogle in the 70's. Favorites were banana and the chocolate. One of the lids I have here has an original price sticker of 71 cents. Unfortunately the label from the jar has long since been washed off. They were great jars for storing buttons and whatever.

I have a sad story about Koogle. I always wanted to try it when I was a kid, but my mom said it looked disgusting and so we settled for regular peanut butter (Skippy). Then I went on a ski trip with my friend Penny to Wisp resort to her parent's lodge and they had a jar in their cupboard. I was only a kid and didn't want to ask to try it. So I never got to try Koogle! I'm glad other people remember it too. And I love also that people are bringing up Kimba, Speed Racer (Racer X was my first crush when I was 5 lol) and Quisp. Love them! Does anyone remember that "groovy" (and hideously colored) cereal Fruit Brute? It ruled. It was the short lived werewolf cereal in the monster cereal group

Would this be a great time to bring back Koogle or what? I have contacted Kraft several times. The first time I was told that Kraft never made this product. The second time, The nice lady said she would pass it on to their marketing department. I encouraged them to go online and see all the talk about it. I remember Koogle as one of the best things about my childhood and would love to be able to share that with my daughter. In a time when alot of Americans are probably eating alot of peanut butter sandwiches, Kraft is missing out on some serious revenue. Apparently, Kraft quit making it because of declining interest--isn't that what happens with all fads? The funny thing is, all the old fads have been coming back around. So why not Koogle, too?

OMG. I was just sitting here and thinking back as to some of the cool stuff we had to eat back in the day and so, I did a simple google search for Koogle peanutbutter. As I said, OMG. I am 45 years old and I could never get enough of Koogle chocolate or banana. With all the products making a comeback today, I for the life of me can't understand why a company as big as Kraft would not at least try to make a comeback with, Koogle ? makes no since to me. Not only that, but look at the way things are today with a weak economy. More and more people are going back to oldtime favorites like chocolate etc. Their is no better time for Kraft to reintroduce a product like, Koogle. I for one would buy this product. Thanks to all of you posters for sharing your stories of Koogle. Nothing like a walk down memorylane. Life sure was much simpler back in the 70's. Sure, things were tough back then as they are today and maybe even tougher by todays standards. But I think a lot of yous that well remember the 70's know ware I'm coming from.

If anyone wants to try an incredible likeness, go to P B Loco. It is a peanut butter sandwich cafe in Scottsdale, AZ. I found it accidentaly with my 4 year old twins about a week ago and immedietely thought of the "eyes". I bought the jungle banana, the Sumatra cinnamon and raisin and the chocolate chip cookie dough. All are amazing and totally worth the effort to try. From what I understand, the specialty is White Chocolate Raspberry. Give them a try. You will be happy you did. By the way, bu sure to stir immediately after opening to mix all the good stuff in.

I've been wondering for DECADES if they still made Koogle and it just wasn't available where I live now - kinda like not being able to get Krystal hamburgers in some states but you still had White Castle if you wanted a bunch of little square burgers! I still can't understand why they took it off the shelves, EVERY kid I knew back then loved and ate it like it was "Soylent Green" or something, so it had to be making some big bucks! I used to make "triple decker" toasted bread sandwiches - chocolate with strawberry in the middle and vanilla on the other end using 4 slices of bread and about a quarter jar of Koogle between each slice - and "Koogle and 'nanner' (banana for you non-southerners!)" fried sandwiches a la Elvis style! Any flavor of Koogle with sliced bananas cooked up in some butter in a frying pan - good and golden brown and warm enough so that the 'nanners turn almost to mush and the Koogle (or p-nut butter) is dripping down the sides...UMMM, UMMM, GOOD! Kraft would be complete idiots not to bring this potential multi-million seller - even if it was for short periods of time now and then, like Mickey D does with the McRib - I know I'd buy a few cases at a time...just to be on the safe side ;p!

Oh YES! I remember Koogle. I remember banana and chocolate for definite. And maybe a vanilla and strawberry were out there (Mom never bought those to my reckoning) Also remember that Mom had to hide it or it would disappear way before grocery day. Don't remember there being a cinnamon though (maybe that was a regional thing) I would buy some of it if it was brought back, but they'd probably come out with flavors to appeal to the kids now - watermelon, blue razberry, ikky stuff like that, not the old standards! Nutella is NOTHING like koogle - it's made from hazelnuts. Oh and I also remember Quisp and Quake cereals, Fruit Brute AND Booberry, Fizzies, and a peanut butter/jelly stripe combo (don't remember the name) in both grape and strawberry (don't think they were by the same company as the grape stripe that's available now).

Just yesterday I was talking with a co-worker who is about my age (I'm 49). She told me how she has craved peanut butter all her life. I asked if she remembered a product by the name of Koogle, which seemed to be around in my early teen years. I wasn't even sure if that was the exact name of it, but I had it right. She did remember and mentioned how she loved the banana flavor. I only recall the chocolate one. Once I Googled Koogle, voila! It was great finding this page. Hopefully Kraft or some other company will bring it back.

Like the experiences of most everyone on this site, I couldn't find anyone who knew about this stuff - and I was actually beginning to think I was crazy. A coworker and I were talking this morning, and she remembered it too! I was so happy! However, I did find out that what I thought was called "Google" with "Googley Eyes" as a very young child was actually called Koogle. Haha! It's no wonder I could never find anyone else who heard of it growing up!

A close approximation of Koogle is the Peanut Butter & Co products. You can order them online or find them in better grocery stores. Maybe if everyone here emailed Kraft and had all their friends do it... maybe Kraft would cave in and start production again. Think of all the new jobs it would bring! Every now and again I think about Koogle peanut butter and how much I loved it when I was a kid. It is a travestry it didn't catch on then and an even bigger travestry that Kraft Foods won't even consider bring back this phenomenal product. OK Kraft let's get with the program. Surely you cannot ignore the desires of hundreds if not thousands of persons who genuinely want to see the return of this product. As one person in an earlier comment stated at least try a limited run and see how it does. It won't bankrupt Kraft to at least try.

I recently found "Fizzies" and the taste is just not the same as I remember ... Still, I wish they'd bring Koogle back. We didn't even need bread, jsut scoop it with a spoon and enjoy.

At first, I didn't remember this product. At least not by its name. Now little by little, a hazy memory comes back into focus and I now recall this awful tasting stuff! Although it was like peanut butter, it did not have the same taste. You know how peanut butter has a fresh roasted peanutty smell? Well this stuff smelled more like Silly Putty. It wasn't sweet enough and everything about the flavor was very artificial and nasty tasting. It smelled and tasted like peanut butter that had gone bad, like moldy. It was awful. Who the hell needs banana or cinnamon flavored 'peanut spread' anyway???? YUCK!

Koogle was about 10 years ahead of it's time. I think Kraft has forgotten all about it now. I think It would do great now if they could use less hydrogenated Vegetable oil. I have made some peanut butter myself. We made an organic peanut butter with Molasses and Coconut oil, and we added raw cacao beens for chocolate flavor to try to get the Koogle thing going. The parents wouldn't buy it because it was too expensive. Chocolate costs a lot. Peanuts have gone up now also, maybe it is time to bring back Koogle?

I have loved this peanut butter so much and was so bummed when they stopped making it. I have recently found one at World Plus Market and HOPED it would be similar, nope, not even close. Back to the drawing board til just the other day, was at Meijer, why I always look I have no idea. Well I am so glad I did, they have a brand called Sundland natural Peanut Butter and Banana Spread and I had to try it, well it is awesome! Unless my tastebuds aren't like they were back then, its nearly perfect! Love it!!!!

My mom bought me my very own Koogle Banana PB in the early 70's and I had to hide from 5 siblings. Not an easy task. They always wanted to know what my mom was doing when she was sneaking me a Koogle PB san. So anywho, where in the heck can I buy some nowadays in WA state? Holler back if you can help a Koogle sister out. Seriously...

All of the kids in my neighborhood loved Koogle, we never put it on anything, just opened the jars, sat out on the curb, and used a spoon to eat it before jumping on our skateboards and riding around to burn off all of that sugar. Chocolate, Vanilla, Banana, and Cinnamon were the flavors, probably wouldn't fall under the "peanut butter" catagory today but whatever it was it was good. Wish I had all of those jars to prove this stuff existed, the people I meet today think I am crazy when I tell them about Koogle and that song "Here comes Koogle with the Koo-Koo-Koogley eyes", great childhood memory.

I sang the Koogle jingle to my kids & of course, I got the eye roll. Yet, some years back Jif made their version, I bought it & the kids & I loved it. Chocolate was the best. Unfortunately, it is gone now too, & yet they still make that nasty Goober PB/jelly in 1 jar. Ugh!

Yes, Koogle ROCKS!! Remembering that wonderful Bicentennial Summer of '76, and mom and I were at the grocery store. I was ten years old at the time, and I saw the Vanilla-flavored Koogle. Like all ten year-olds, I wanted it, and she picked it up for me. Thanks MOM!! She would buy Koogle nonstop until 1979 when I think it was discontinued. Just like all good things-that's when the '70s had to end

I loved the Dark Chocolate Koogle. Funny thing is that I sent an e-mail to Kraft (the manufacturer) to ask if they still made it and received a response from their customer service department that they weren't the manufacturer of Koogle. I had to scan a picture I had of a Koogle jar with the "Kraft" logo in plain view to prove it to them. Then I told them that they should learn a little about their historical brands...

I lived in Boston MA when my mom bought this Koogle peanut butter and banana spread for myself and my two siblings. We were picky eaters back then and she would give us anything to make us eat. Koogle Peanut butter was GREAT!!! The song would roll around my head each time I'd take a bite of that absolutely delicious Peanut butter and Banana sandwich, nothing else could compare to it. Can still remember the jingle and the closest I've gotten to imitating the flavor is by using peanut butter and real bananas spread on a sandwich. I would love to find a jar to eat up, maybe buy the whole shelf, yum yum. Please Kraft bring back this product it will fly off the shelves by not only us who first had it but by our children and grandchilren too. BRING BACK KOOGLE!!!!

I don't know about anyone else but just reading about Koogle still makes me smile, I get excited like I am a little kid again. I am just like the others, when I talk about this "chocolate peanut butter wonder" no one remembers it, how is that possible!!!?? we lived in the same town together. My mom bought it for me because I have never liked peanut butter but could stand or should I say LOVED the Chocolate Koogle. My husband is only 3 years older then me and he does not remember it. I also remember "Kaboom" cereal with the clown on the front. Thanks whoever started this blog.

Oh I miss Koogle!!! The Nutella & Jif's chocolate spread does not measure up at all. They both have a funky taste. I'd love to see Koogle make a come back but I read an earlier post from someone who called Kraft & Kraft told them that they will not bring back discontinued items. Why Kraft? It looks like Koogle was & still is popular & would probably be a money maker. Bring it back!

Used to buy koogle for my kids. We all loved it. Just talking about it with my 45 year old daughter the other day. She noticed I still had some empty jars in my workshop holding nails. And to those of you who do not like Nutella, that is because you are eating that crummy Canadian stuff, which is what is sold in the grocery stores in the United States. Nutella is not made in America. Try to get some Belgian, French, or Italian Nutella. Then you will really love the stuff

Oh, I absolutely remember this stuff and could sing the jingle that went along with the commercial. I was probably 6 or 7 when I saw commercials for Koogle and I just had to have the chocolate flavor. Unfortunately, I know why they stopped making the stuff. It was gross! Yeah! Koogle and Saturday morning cartoons! This is one of the few "fad" food items my mom actually allowed me to have! My favorite flavor was chocolate and I loved to eat it on warm toast. My friends liked vanilla. I wish I could find the "Koogly Eyes" commercial on YouTube, but the only one available is the first one w/ Alice Playten. Jif and Skippy came close w/ their chocolate flavors, and I would always mention to people that it reminded me of Koogle. I try making my own w/ chocolate syrup and peanut butter, but it's just not the same. BRING BACK KOOGLE!!

Wow!....I so remember this stuff, and about two years ago I think the smell of Nutella made me think of it RIGHT away. Nutella is a bit strong on the chocolate, but it's pretty good. I did try a chocolate peanut butter from...I think "peanut butter company" or somesuch. That one is actually pretty good. I think as a kid I only ever got to taste the chocolate one, but I remember shopping trips where I would see there was a vanilla and banana (that cinnamon one sounds like it would be AWESOME on toast, English muffins, etc) I wish Kraft WOULD consider this product again...even if they had to rework it just a bit (I DO remember it was WAY too sweet). There are now a few "chocolate spreads" by Hershey I have not tried, but I think those will just taste like chocolate and NOT like Koogle. I'm 48 now....so I think I was probly around 11 or 12 when I remember this, AND the TV commercial during Saturday morning cartoons (Another childhood memory that was recently discontinued as well).

I remember when Koogle first came out, it was introduced in a major blitz type campaign. As kids, we all had a flavor that we liked, mine was the chocolate peanut butter. As I recall though, it was a little more expensive, and since it didn't stand the test of time, I'm guessing the price became an issue. It was a spread that didn't really require jelly though. Perhaps if they'd said it was the sandwich spread of the astronauts, it would still be around, 'cos kids always wanted whatever the astronauts had!

I grew up in a small town in The Dalles ore and loved this stuff specifically banana. Would love to see input on the following, 1, if kraft re released koogle would it really be the same? 2,is there a patton on this stuff could the orig formula be obtained. Would kraft foods still have the exact list of originally I somtimes wonder if its just me but many of the junkfood items I ate as a kid and are remarketed now 40 years later have a sharp kind of chemical aftertaste and are not the same. Hostess fruit pies for example and monster cerials are not the same texture and less flaverful. Would they ruin it by replacing the original recipe with the up to date preservatives that seem to steal the nostalgia away from the experience?

My Dad was very strict about the food we ate back in the 70s, but, every so often, my Mom would seek a treat into the pantry for us, and Koogle was one of my favorites. I mean, man, that stuff was so good that we would eat it with a spoon -- no bread or anything else required!

I loved Koogle, when this stuff came out I was about 7 or 8 years old, all of the kids on our block would get some Koogle and we would have several jars at a time with spoons in hand sitting on the curb while we took a break from our normal every day skateboard riding or playing some kind of game/sport. We would pass the different flavors around everybody digging in and eating it right out of the jars, never failed that someone in the group would jump up running around and start singing that song "Here comes Koogle with the Koo Koo Koogley eyes" those are great memories. Kids today don't seem to gather together to play or share anything like we did back in those days, it was a different time back then, maybe we need Kraft to bring Koogle back to unite todays kids again, just look how all these years later it brought all of the people making comments together to share our memories, BRING BACK KOOGLE and the KOOGLEY eyed monster :-)
