This was once my favorite pop...it came in a green bottle and had a hillbilly and a jug on the bottle.

I love me some Kickapoo Joy Juice. It was as much fun to drink as it was to say the name. That drink was just pure tasty fun :)

Someone correct me if I am wrong. I always thought that Kickapoo was brought out as a Pepsi product. Later the name was changed to Mountain Dew. Am I right or wrong?

I remember as a kid getting this from a pop machine that also had Mountain Dew It was probably the counter part to Mountain Dew as Mr Pibb is to Dr Pepper???

To ML & the others trying to figure this out: Kickapoo Joy Juice was named after a fictional moonshine recipe in the "L'il Abner" comic strip. KJJ is still bottled by Monarch Beverages and if it's not available in your area it can be purchased via online soda retailers.

I always believed that Kickapoo Joy Juice was bottled by Pepsi also. We had a Pepsi bottling plant in my hometown (Wapakoneta, Ohio) that I was sure they bottled it. I can still hear the ads.... "Yaa-hooo...kickapoo" which later changed to "Yaa-hooo.....it's Mountain Dew". I believe it was probably bottled under license agreements from Monarch, which may have been regional. I really would like a definitive answer on this if anyone knows for sure.

Found a website that chronicled the facts... whether Kickapoo was a Pepsi product or bottled under license, I'm not sure.... but here is what was reported about the product bottled in 1965 in Wapakoneta, Ohio by the Koch Bottling Company: The Wapakoneta, Ohio Pepsi-Cola people had a lot of fun introducing Kickapoo Joy Juice. Employees turned an old hay wagon into a float using wood barrels, a mock still and a privy. The ragged hillbillies stood armed to their teeth. Dry ice in water made the still and barrels smoke. The Auglaize County Sheriff, at Pepsi's request, surrounded the float with guns drawn. We called Every area newspaper, radio and TV station about the armed standoff at Pepsi-Cola, and a score of reporters came. Some were none too happy with the charade, but Kickapoo Joy Juice got a great sendoff.
