Description
I do remember the Good N'Fruity commercial song. I wish I could find that tune for my computer. It went..."There are rainbows in the flavor of Good N'Fruity candy. The berry tastes as good as the 4th of July. The lemon stole the sun right out of the sky. Orange 'll make you laugh 'til the sun goes down...and lime is love and love is green and love is all around. So take a box open it and you'll see , there's a rainbow in the flavor of Good N Fruity candy." Oh, to hear that tune again!!!!! If it's available by some means, please let me know. Thanks!

What most people don't know is that the singer on that commercial is Carly Simon. How do I know that? Because she was an aspiring singer/songwriter in the early 70's and I hired her to write and sing the jingle for an ad agency I was working for. And, yes, I have the recording, buried somewhere in my closet. I haven't listened to it in years but the lyrics were something like this: "Here's the Good 'n' Fruity candy machine, the neatest machine you've ever seen. The flavors are just like real (something) fruit. The red is as red as Santa Claus' suit. Orange is as orange was and always it will be. There are rainbows in the flavords of Good 'n' Fruity Candy. And so on. Anyone interested in the music should feel free to write me at jeromew@comcast.net.

I actually have that commercial on cassette tape I recorded in 1970 off the TV. I'll have to transfer it to mp3 and post it on YouTube.

There was an early Good N Fruity TV spot with Choo Choo Charlie from 1970, with Dick Beals doing the voice. Paul brought up excellent points in the Good N Plenty blog. Found out that Beals was like Gary Coleman and Billy Barty: His body didn't grow normally as he aged. Beals lived from 1927 to 2012. Even into his 70s, he was voicing boy characters. He worked on "Davey & Goliath" (Clokey/Lutheran TV) until 1964. Beals also voiced Ernie, a cartoon boy who pitched US Savings Bonds in Ad Council PSA's. He carried a $75 Kennedy bond in a 1965 spot. Beals also worked on cartoon shows like "Birdman" and "Frankenstein Jr."

A couple more notes for Paul. Elaine McFarlane was born in 1942, she was 28 in 1970. The Our Gang band broke up in 1969. Also, YouTube has another Savings Bond PSA with Dick Beals (Ernie) from 1963. In this, Ernie leads a short parade of clumsy musicians. A $100 bond is shown. On Cracker Jack, Jack Gilford must have filmed five or six commercials. Before his death in the 1980s, he was on "All In the Family" as an inventor friend of Archie's, who died while in Archie's house.
