Description
These were similar to Kraft Caramels and were made by Kraft. They were gold foil wrapped squares of chewy fudge that came in a big cellophane bag. I don't know when they were introduced, but I remember eating them in the late 60's-70's; by the 80's they were gone. I loved these things!!

I remember these fondly, only because they were given out as a special reward treats at my elementary school, "Hartstern". We had something called "citizens of the week". If your classroom did something good or helped out around the school in some way, you'd get these along with regular carmels and a "citizen of the week" pencil on your lunch tray. The taste of a tootsie roll with the texture of a Kraft caramel They seemed more special the plain old caramels, 'cause they were wrapped in foil : )

I used to bug my mother to buy these whenever she went shopping. They were a favorite of mine.

Hi, I loved them as a kid too and searched high and low for them. What I finally discovered was that the company's name had changed to Favorite Brands of America or Favorite Brands...forget exactly which. Anyway, a friend found them once for me in her supermarket and I found them once too. They pop up around Halloween time. Try searching under the names Famous Brands. I remember that I went as far as calling Kraft to get the names of local distributors. I was really feeling nostalgic for them!

Fudgies were awesome. I want to get the recipe so i can manufacture these myself. Fudgies were the best candy ever made!

I just called Kraft Marketing and requested to have Fudgies brought back. I even asked for the recipe. I got a generated response "if we got enough feedback that Kraft would consider manufacturing them". I asked for Corporate's phone # 1-847-646-2000. I want to find someone who will make them if not Kraft.

Oh, Yeah! That's how I got hooked on them! Kraft Fudgies were awesome...wonder why they disappeared??? They were almost as mysterious as the disappearance of my favorite OOMPAS! I used to flatten out a carmel, and roll a fudgie in a ball and wrap the carmel around it and roll the whole thing into a ball and then pop it in my mouth and try eating it without choking on the big ball of yummy goo!
Sperry - November 30, 2009 - Report this comment
Oh how I remember Fudgies. My mom would get them on special occasions. The problem was they cost so much at the time. The caramels (which I found distasteful) were less expensive. I guess the high cost prevented enough people from buying them, so Kraft discontinued them as being 'unpopular'. Sigh.

Fudgies were one of my all-time favorite candies in the 60's and 70's. I was so disappointed when they disappeared. I even found a website that sells a lot of old time candy (oldtimecandy.com) but they don't even have Fudgies. They do, however, have Smoothies, Mallo Cups, BB Bats and Fizzies, though!

These as well as Cheese & Crackers by Kraft were always readily available in my house because my mom worked for Kraft :D I too miss these little drool fest gems as well as the Cheese & Crackers ...all I can find now is breadsticks and cheese! *yuck* Kraft needs to bring these two items back pronto!

I also was in search of my beloved Kraft Fudgies in their shiny golden foil. I contacted the Kraft Company and was told that the recipe for the Fudgies was sold to a Farley & Southers candy manufacturing company in 1996 and that no amount of petitions would result in Kraft ever being able to manufacture them again. To my knowledge Farley's has never done anything with the recipe. What a terrible waste. It was my favorite candy.

Riesen has a chocolate caramel that's pretty good, but theyre so big and hard to just pop one in the mouth and theyre chewy. I miss the bags of vanilla and chocolate caramels when i was a kid, where i would take the dark ones and leave the vanilla for my brothers, who didnt seem to care. I don't really remember the fudgies too well.

Fudgies - I remember them well! So glad to hear that others remember them as well!I live in the Clermont, Fl area and the Golden Corral Restaurant serves these on their dessert bar! They are not the "Kraft" fudgies wrapped in foil but I do believe they are the same product. I remember the taste! If anyone lives in this area, go to the restaurant and taste.

OMG. I don't think that anyone could love those little treats more than me. Then when I discovered the bowling alley, they came 10 of them to a lack in a like candy bar size package. Nothing compares except maybe the Patterson's Fudge Patties that were popular around the same time. i am hoping that the one of the hadfuls of companies that reproduces and remarkets popular products we like from the past. See's fudge is pretty good, kind of sugary, though.

I want to get a copy of the Kraft Fudgie Ad that was always in the back of the comic books..."Oh he almost made the basket, but at the last moment the burst of energy he got from eating just one more Kraft fudgie made the ball go in the hoop" Family would be so appreciative

Kraft fudgie's were one of the best candies around. At the holidays you could buy a extra large bag to give out, but I always bought the big bag for myself! They also came in the little vending machines packs which were just as good. It would be great to see them come back. Do we know why Kraft stopped making them, it seems that there are plenty of us who would still like to buy them! Please bring them back.

Nostalgia is a very powerful thing....I, too, miss eating fudgies. I googled the recipe, and found one that I can't wait to try. There were two different recipes, one was adjusted for an adult palate, the other was supposedly obtained from a cafeteria lady. I don't remember Kraft fudgies, but I remember the fudgies served in the cafeteria. http://www.hungrybrowser.com/phaedrus/m0718W07.htm

Maybe a Facebook page and an email sent and to pass along to others to let them know about the Facebook page.. connect it to the Kraft FB page..... Just a thought. If these things were addictive I would have been. While I was nursing my daughter.... 30 yrs ago... she must have had chocolate milk. I don't get why they discontinue products which were obviously popular unless they had a problem with ingredients or something in the manufacturing of them that made it cost prohibitive. Wish they'd at least publish the recipe so we can make our own.

Kraft, primarily a seller of cheese products in the early 20th century, began manufacturing candy shortly after World War 2, when sugar rationing had ended. Earliest would be 1946. I have a 1954 comic book with an ad for Kraft Fudgies, with a wild contest. Fortunately, they are still around today.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I seem to remember that back in the 60's and 70's when you bought a bag of Kraft Caramel squares the bag included a set of sticks for apple dipping AND each bag included at least one or two of the Kraft Fudgies squares.

From the daytime TV vault, a Kraft commercial showing Fudgies, Caramels and caramel covered almonds. This aired during "Never Too Young," the teen soap opera, on ABC (10/13/65). Bruce floor wax, One-A-Day Vitamins, Cope aspirin for women, Nabisco Team Flakes and Wisk detergent among other sponsors. Network promos include "Shindig" with Jimmy O'Neill. Also, "Ben Casey" and "Jimmy Dean" variety show with Jimmy and Rowlf the Muppet dog.. Ad Council PSA for Peace Corps. An early episode of this Malibu Beach saga. Tony Dow's character, Chet, has rough edges and a chip on his shoulder. The other kids keep dropping boyfriend/girlfriend for another constantly. Only a few episodes were preserved from backup film kinescopes. Next to "Dark Shadows," this was a great soap!

I remember getting the regular bag of caramels and there was always one in it, if you were lucky there might be two. Then they release them for sell all on their own. But I always thought they were better when there was just that one, because it left you wanting more. Maybe Kraft should reintroduce them that way. You always want what you can’t have
