Description
This was out in 1973-1974. As with Spoon Candy, the commercial for it appealed enough to both mom and myself to try it. It was as described by others and quite good. It's span on the market was for no longer than Spoon Candy's and was gone by 1974. As for the commercial, here's what little I remember of it: A bald man with glasses tries unsuccessfully to say Fruit Float at lightning speed three times in a row, finally pausing and saying, "Wait a minute!" A freckle faced kid smiles and cuts in with, "Forget it." At the commercial's end the same kid smiles again and quips, "I'll bet you'll like it."

I'm glad someone else remembers this. I loved the strawberry flavored. If I am not mistaken, it cam in a can and you added milk or something and then let it "set up" like jello. Is this the same stuff.

I can't remember who made it, my mom and brother were hooked on this stuff, anyone know why they stopped making it? I wish someone had a recipie!
Greg - June 26, 2007 - Report this comment
Jello came out with a pudding by the name of Jell-o Creme Savers. It is the closest taste to Fruit Float. It was introduced around 2004 but I haven't seen it in the stores in some time.

Does anyone have a pic of the can it used to come in? I'm the only one in my family that remembers it. I want to show them to jog their memory.

My sister loved Fruit Float and I just couldn't stand it. I would love to surprise her with something like it. Any ideas?

Hi, I loved Fruit Float too!...I think it was made by Libby's.

Yes... and they were awesome!!! I have been talking about these to my husband forever, but could never remember the name. We loved the commercials...it really is hard to say : ) I recall the Strawberry flavor. Sort of like a fruity pudding/yogurty dessert. I don't know why, but I am thinking they also had peach? Thanks for the great memeory!

Fruit Float was the best! Can anyone name all the flavors? Strawberry, peach, banana, lime??? When it says Libbys Libbys Libbys on the label label label you will like it like it like it on your table table table.

I'm really glad that others out there remember Fruit Float - it was really good!!! I liked all the flavors and recall that it tasted similar to fruit flavored yogurts today (but a bit sweeter, perhaps). A great product that never really caught on......

Stoney Field Farms makes an organic strawberry yogurt that reminds me of the taste of fruit float. See if you agree. I remember that was my favorite flavor. No one around me remembers fruit float. I was starting to wonder if I made it up. :-)

It was made by Libbys and I loved it. I even remember Libbys slogan. It was " If it says Libbys Libbys Libbys on the label label label, you will love it on your table table table!" Wow what a memory trip. I wish they still had the fruit float, it was so good.

THANK YOU!! My friends think I made up Fruit Float too! I'm from NY - was it a "Northern Thing"? I remember making it at my grandparent's house: cherry, strawberry, blueberry...those were me and my sibling's favorites...why wont they bring it back?????

I remember fruit float....and it literally made me sick....I can remember my mom making it and we all loved it....it tasted great, but there was something in it that made me throw up every time I ate the stuff. At first we thought it was a fluke or a virus but no....every time I ate it, I got sick....which I hated because it tasted sooooo good going down.

I have been trying to find a site about Fruit Float and I finally did! Nobody in my family remembers this, so I was beginning to think that I made this up in my head. I am soooo happy that others remember this. I remember making it and not liking it at all. I had not eaten yogurt in those days, so maybe I'd like it now. It sure reminds me of yogurt.

OMG this is a riot. I used to LOVE Fruit Float. Strawberry was my favorite. I was telling a coworker about it but she does not remember it. She does remember Whip N Chill though! Both were favorites but not many people I talk to remember it. So I Goodsearched it and here I am. BTW, for any of you Whip N Chill lovers, The Vermont Country Store sells it for $16.95. Chocolate, Strawberry and Vanilla. Each one makes between 28 and 32 servings. YUM!!

This stuff was great - my favorite after school snack - just add milk - I'd finish a whole can - I can remember strawberry and maybe Peach but others??? Why did Libbys discontinue the product?

Was this the stuff that seperated on it's own after it was poured into glasses. I thought it was called Libby's Parfaits

The stuff that separated into 3 layers was Jello 1-2-3. It was good stuff, but not Fruit Float. Fruit Float was great...i loved it, and then it was gone.

I remember it, but my parents bought 123 Gelatin more often than Fruit Float. And Junkit was another one.

I was about 10 years old when Fruit Float came out (yes, Libby's made it). I distinctly remember the "warning" on the label to stir it 30 times (after adding the milk) and NO MORE! Why? Would it explode? Great stuff!

We use to have this when we went camping. Only remember peach and stawberry flavors so i guess that's the only flavor my parents bought. No one I ever mention this to remembers it. I think about it almost every time I have a peach yogurt. It was made by Libby's and the commercials had people trying to say Fruit Float 3 times fast. :-)

I loved Fruit Float, especially the strawberry flavor. I use to make it and eat the whole recipe before anyone in the family got their hands on it. There had never been anything that came close to that taste. It was awesome. Some yogurts of today come close, but not quite. I wish Libbys would put it on the market for a trial period for old time sake.

I just loved fruit float strawberry and blueberry were the best ,maybe if libbys knew we all loved it they would bring it back . because today people don't have time for homemade cooking like they did back then,

I Google everything that crosses my mind, and after eating a container of Peach Yoplait just now I was transported to a day 37 years ago when my mom presented me with a glass dessert cup in which she'd made Fruit Float. It was heaven- and I'm thrilled to know that other people had the same experience- that I didn't make it up. It was delicious- and like so many other great food items of the 70's (Banana Koogle, anyone?) sadly gone, gone, gone...

I loved Fruit Float! Blueberry was the best. I still remember the commericals. I still sing the Libby's jingle. Also loved Jello 1-2-3!

This is cool! It seems everyone I mention Fruit Float to acts like I'm making it up. My husband never heard of it. My brothers and sisters don't even remember it. What happened to it? It must have been short lived.

My husband & I are the only people in our families that remember this. People think we are nuts. I tried to find it online about 7 yrs ago - glad to finally find this website.

I have been thinking a lot about fruit float lately. I just loved it. I too was wondering if there is a way to duplicate it. I cannot imagine why it did stay around any longer than it did.
