Responding to Renae's comment: If "The Closer" was set in the early '70s, that may be your answer. Dipsie Cakes, last I saw in 1975, struggled to compete with Hostess Ding-Dongs. This product stayed around longer than other competitor/copiers. The lack of a big advertising budget is a possible reason. If you haven't done so yet, try a Google search for Dipsie Cakes.

The Closer is a current tv series the setting for the show is California. Brenda is the chief on the police show and she has a sweet tooth. You see her wanting or eating sweets on the show but mostly its a foil wrapped Dipsie. On the last episode that she was chief you see them going through her desk at the police station and cleaning it out and t her husband hands the new chief one of the dipsies out of the drawer.
