They are still made today...by Drakes in New Jersey I believe. They still make, Ring Dings, Funny Bones, Yankee Doodles, Yodels and some others. My favorites. I used to have a site where they could be odered online. Google/search Drakes Cakes...Devil Dogs have ALWAYS been my favorites...especially with a cold glass of milk!

I loved devil dogs as a kid and I still love devil dogs as a 56 yr. old psychologist (only I don't eat them as often as I did as a kid. They are still sold by Drakes/Hostess Bakeries which have merged recently within the past few years. So professionally speaking I urge you to go ahead and indulge yourself by eating devil dogs. It will keep you young at heart!

They were really big in the Northeast, which was where I had to go to get them, because they didn't sell them in Florida in the '70s. They seemed to be a staple in all of my relatives' houses in Mass.

Wow...others remember the lyrics...except I remember slightly different words: "Devil Dogs are delicious and I'm crazy about them because...I love that chocolaty cake and the creamy filling...I love Devil Dogs more than Marcia!" I hope someone uploads the commercial somewhere.

I grew up in New York and was used to the Hostess and Drakes products. When I went to college in Alabama, I was LOST!!! Little Debbie and Tasty Cake, (spell) were no subsitute. Loved, loved, loved Funny Bones, and then when they made the Sunny Doodles, (i think that's the name), it was the vanillia, yellow cake version of the Yankee Doodle? - chocolate cake version, cupcake with cream in the middle. No frosting on these. I liked the Drakes fruit pies, they tasted good, but I think mainly because it came as 2 small square pies in the package.

Can someone help me? In the 70's prob early 80's there was a cake called "Sunny Dogs" the golden/vanilla version of Devil Dogs. I cannot find them on the internet -can someone tell me who manuf the Sunny Dogs?

Yep, I grew up in NYC, so we had Drakes cakes, too. Of course our favorite was Devil Dogs. I like them better than Hostess Suzy Q's b/c the cake was denser. My older brother and I used to like them right out of the fridge, nice and cold. I remember sometimes, when there was one more in the box, it was a race to see who would get home from school first, (he was older and in high school at this time)to eat the last one!

Donna Crawford...you and I are apparently the only two human beings in existence who know about Sunny Dogs. I actually argued with a lady from costumer service at Drakes Hostess because she said there was never such a thing called Sunny Dogs. My family thinks I'm nuts but you and I know the truth! :)

Omg,Jennifer I forgot about this comment. I am glad someone besides myself remembers the golden cake Sunny Dogs. They were much better then a Twinkie. I also called customer service and tried researching and got no where.

Need some help remembering commercial in the 60s don't recall if it was on the radio or TV it was 60 seconds of someone speaking about playing baseball in the schoolyard going home for lunch having a tuna sandwich and a devil dog and later onfinding a piece of devil dog tucked between his cheek and gum and it was like a second rate experience anyone remember please help. Could it have been a Yankee Doodle?

Thomas: YouTube has a 1965 TV ad for Drake's Funny Bone snack cakes, featuring a pair of five-year-old kids. Slogan was: Everybody Wants a Funny Bone. This aired on WINS-TV in New York. Sorry, no vintage Devil Dog ads. The earliest one YouTube has is early 80s, featuring a black couple, back when Drake's was owned by Borden (now by the resurrected Hostess company).

Rob, there was no WINS TV in New York City. Was that upstate somewhere? There was a WINS radio (1010 AM). I prefer ring dings myself. I moved to the DC area in '87 and on a trip to New York I amused my goddaughter by grabbing her, rushing into a Waldbaums, and buying just four boxes of Ring Dings. Right now, I have a box of Devil Dogs in my pantry though. :)

My dad used to pull pranks on a friend of his and managed to convince him that TS Eliot was hard up on money, and wrote the lyrics to the Devil Dog jingle.
