This is amazing! I remember this drink and the song when I was a teen living in Columbia, SC. Ditto on the lyrics. I never forgot the song even though my memory doesn't serve me well concerning the details of the commercial.

I've never seen the commercial myself but I have a best friend who remembers the song very well. It's a catchy tune that doubtlessly left parents no choice but to go out and buy those coolies for the kids! :o)

I remember that commercial! And the dancing cartons. I loved that drink and still sing the song sometimes. I was beginning to think I had imagined it though when I asked other people about it.

On a whim I googled for Coolie Fruit Punch and I can't believe I actually found other people who remember that commercial too! In the 1970's we were in Cornelius NC, that's north of Charlotte. If I'm remembering it right, the commercial showed dancing cartons with the Coolie logo, a very corny commercial and tune but still with me after all these years. Who knows why it made such an impression on us but wouldn't it be nice to see the commercial again!

Sweet Mother oF God! I feel validated. I have only been able to catch a peripheral glance in my memory of the dancing cartons on the hill. It's neat to see some other folks with the same memories.

Oh the memories -I grew up outside of Columbia, SC and used to sing that jingle all the time when I was younger. I remember the dancing cartons in the field, too. Was it Coburg milk that made Coolies?

Pet Dairy, a Dean Foods company sells the Coolie brand. I ran into it this weekend (January 2009) and immediately called my brother. He, too, remembered the song from 30+ years ago. Great marketing!

The commercial ran as far north as Virginia--I saw it many times growing up in Williamsburg in the 70s & 80s. NEVER FORGOT THE SONG and would love to see the dancing cartons again! "Natural fruit flavors: orange, lemon, punch!"

Does anyone remember the drink cups that you could get from the company that looked like the Coolie characters? My mom still has one or two of those cups.

Coolie was the lunch time drink of choice. If I remember correctly, the cartons were orange, yellow or red? The PET logo was also on the carton.

I remember something similar to that, but they were called Chillie Willies. They came in a 16 oz carton in fruit punch, orange and lemon. What ever happened to them?

I'm so glad to find others who remember this! I can still sing the entire song. Funny how that has stuck with us. I grew up in SC, but my boyfriend from Indiana has never heard of Coolie....guess it was just a Southern thing!

I have been trying to find this for years...I saw it all the time on WDBJ & out of Roanoke VA...I had a friend swear to me it was filmed on Mill Mountain but I have no proof.

Before the dancing cartons, there was a Coolie commercial with the reigning Miss SC, Claudia Turner. She "directed" a "choir" of kids as they sang the jingle. I was one of those kids.

I sure wish someone would find the Coolie commercial and upload it to youtube!! I have been looking off and on for a few years now and still nothing...but on a hunch tonight I just googled Coolie and I found all of you guys! I too (like Scott)above thought I had imagined it because no one (except my mom)remembers the jingle. And yes I too can still see those Coolie cartons dancing on the Hill. Yep...I, too, have that jingle taking up what little space there is in my addled brain! Grew up in Augusta, GA, and we LOVED this stuff! On a related note, Doritos original Taco flavor is out in retro packaging. I just bought two bags and I think I'll see if I can hunt down a Coolie to wash 'em down in Columbia, SC, where I live now!

I grew up in Sumter, SC, and I too was infected with the song. (The jingle is playing in my head now!) I sing it to my kids to drive them crazy. I can remember the dancing cartons too - it would have been the early 1970s for me. Please - somebody upload it to Youtube!!

We had coolie in Mississippi too! They often had them at summer camps, the Y, and at school. Really waxy paper cartoons that were thinner than the milk ones. If you drank the fruit punch out of Dixie cup, it would turn the cup pink. If you drank it from the cartoon, we would say Coolie stash you got. One of the best and easy to remember jingles ever! It is up there with Oscar Mayer, band aids, fig newton, empire carpets, and stay soft fro in my mind as easy to recall. The taco doritos commercials would never go over today with the bandito shooting guns and talking Spanglish.

Coo-coo-Coolie ... back when bug juice was made with sugar ... it gave us cavities and we liked it that way!

I still remember this song...all the words, but do not remember seeing the commercial. I grew up in Charlotte NC in the 70's. My brother would go out behind the house where there was construction going on and they had this food truck for the workers. This is one of the things he would get for a treat. Could not find this on youtube.

The commercial ran pretty constantly in Roanoke, VA, along with Moore's Potato Chips. "More's potato chips go with two smiling lips.....Coo Coo Coolie, Coo Coo Coo Coolie!"

Every time I hear something that sounds like "coolie" that song enters my head. For a while! But I couldn't remember the second line, now I know it. Thought it was just a S. GA thing. Friends thought I was crazy too

Makes me wanna cry! I thought I was the only one who remembered this commercial. I used to take my tape recorder and record cartoon audio (this was before VCRs were popular) and occasionally I would get a commercial in there. One of them was the Coolie commercial and I used to sing that song relentlessly around my suffering parents

I too remember the Coolie commercials, we lived in Taylors, SC in the late 1960's when I was in grade school at Northwoods Elementary School, unfortunately, we had a student teacher whose name was Mr. Cooley and all we did was sing that song in class, that was pretty bad thinking about that now over 40 years later......it was a PET product...but I am just laughing out load now......

Used to have Pet Coolies delivered to our home in Chesapeake, VA when I was a kid. Saw a pic of a milk box on Facebook (one of those 'Do you remember these' photos) and suddenly the Coolie jingle started going off in my head. I was hunting for the commercial and found this page.

This site is hilarious. The original commercial with Miss S.C., Claudia Turner was in !971. Henderson Advertising in Greenville handled the PET account and the choir was made up of the children of Henderson employees and their friends. The Commercial was filmed in Charlotte and they bussed us up from Greenville. I was 6. I was given a 45 or LP with the song on it and my parents would practice with me. We were all dressed in navy blue pants, white shirts and red ties, sitting in a bleacher stand three rows high. I was in the top row on the end, stage right. The plan was to have all of the kids cue off of Claudia, stand in unison and sing the Coolie song. I apparently was the only child who could not stand in unison. After several takes and failed attempts, the directors opted to change the plan and have me stay seated while everyone else stood up, I would then stand up a few seconds later looking like I didn't know what was going on... which was actually true. After that I was absolutely infatuated with Claudia Turner.

For some inexplicable reason, this commercial hit a cord with us kids. I have incredibly fond memories as a kid growing up in the late 60s, early 70s in Columbia, SC. The Coolie commercial is a highlight. And someone out there correct me if I'm wrong, but in addition to dancers dressed in carton costumes, weren't there also dancers dressed like "wedges" of oranges, lemons, etc? When I think back about the Coolie commercial, I am immediately transported to my hot summers as a child in Columbia, SC. YES!!!!! Someone, find this thing and upload it to YouTube!

Talk about a commercial that left its mark on a generation! I thought about it this evening and googled it----to find this page. Growing up in north Alabama we heard the commercial a LOT---especially in the afternoons during the 3:30-4:00 cartoon broadcasts.

My mind just had a flashback and I suddenly remembered the song. I too just searched in vain for the commercial on YouTube. Dangit! At least I'm not alone.

Watched this when I was a kid in 1978. It was on WKPT out of Bristol-Kingsport-Johnson City Tennessee. Always watched a goofy Japanese cartoon with a monster who was called Rodan I believe. Coolie commercials were on then. Amazing how that jingle stuck in my mind even now.

The commercial I remember was sung by a boy who kept raiding the refrigerator at times of the day and night for Coolie! The drink itself tasted like juice and milk mixed together... so great jingle, not so great drink for me anyway!!

Trying to submit a 1972 Coolie newspaper ad photo I just found but this site won't let me do it. Try searching the newspapers site, there's some early 70s ads to be found there - fun to see the carton again! :-)
