I believe that you may have Clanky in the wrong decade. As a child, I participated in a taste test for Clanky not have been later than the first half of 1964. I have a Clanky bottle from that time period. The 60s were the days of peak public interest in the space program while the 70s were a bit dead for such things until "Star Wars" arrived, so it makes sense that such a product would have been marketed in the 60s, but, probably, not the 70s. The taste test may have been the only contact that I had with the product.

We have a family story about Clanky. My youngest sister was maybe three years old and that would be about 1964. She was still getting words "mixed up" One day she told us that she had,"Clanky in the ellbrow". She had chocolate syrup on her eyebrow. I still call eyebrows, elbrows once and a while just for fun and I'm fifty-one. We loved Clanky.

I think Clanky is the earlist tv ad that I can remember, so it would have to be about 1965. I thought the name was "tanky" so I had a hard time looking it up on the net at first. I'm really jelous of Curt for still having a bottle. I'm off to E-bay I guess.

I was online because we found a clanky syrup bottle in the dump out side. I found out some info on clanky syrup like it was said to still have been present in the 60s-mid 70s. Its company is from chicago. That is all the info I have.

I remember an animated Clanky commercial from the early Sixties-- I thought I was the only one who remembered Clanky at all! Anyway, the lyrics in that one went something like "Clanky, Clanky, he's good for you and me; he can make anything chocolatey!"

I also was a big fan of that chocolaty syrup in the brown robot bottle. And I will say that the era was defiantly in the 60's not the 70's. By the 70's I was a teenager and not only did my interests change, but Clanky was very difficult to locate in stores. If you could get it at all. 7-11 was the last place we found a bottle. And that was the early 70's. 1971???? I think.

I remember my mother buying it one time at the A&P because I begged her to. My father came home and saw it, and said "I wouldn't drink anything called 'Clanky' What a stupid name. I remember saving the bottle because it looked like a toy robot, but after reakizing there were no movable parts, it ended up at the bottom of the toy chest and eventually into the trash. If I only had the bottle today!!

The taste test in 1964 sounds right; I was very young when Clanky was introduced, probably 1964 or 1965. I loved the bottle so much that it was my ambition to collect an army of Clankys, but the product didn't last that long, at least not here in L.A.

I had the same problem "RIKI" had about remembering the name (and therefore having trouble finding it on the internet), but in my case I kept thinking the name was "Cranky". But because of those geniuses at Google, the search engine asked me if I was looking for "Cranky" instead, and sure enough it turned out I was. And it was definitely the 60s, because I was about 6 when I remember us having it at our house, which would have made it 1968.

I remember my son drinking the chocolate right out of the Clanky bottle, like it was a baby bottle! He must have been about 2 or 3 at the time. He'll be 50 this year....he LOVED his Clanky!

What a blast from the past! My father was a food broker in los Angeles and had "clanky" as one of his clients... We had all the clanky chocolate syrup we could eat for free ( family of 6), needless to say we drank a lot..... Found memories!

I remember seeing a Clanky in my paternal Grandmothers refrigerator in Kingsville Texas around 1970. Bottle says they were made in Chicago but I never saw them in a Chicago store. I found on eBay two Clanky bottles. One dated 1963 and the other dated 1964.
