Description
A thick, chocolate bar from the mid to late '70s that had air introduced into it when it was formed. It resulted in a "swiss-cheese" effect inside the bar. I guess they thought it should be called "lite" since, because of all the little holes, there wasn't really as much chocolate there as it appeared to be. I thought it tasted a little bland.

There is a Canadian equivalent to Chocolite (I'm told) that is called Wispa, and I believe it's still made

I L-O-V-E-D the ChocoLite bar!! Several years ago, I tried the Nestle Aero bar and those yummy childhood memories came flooding back. I just read that a product called Bubble Chocolate (or something like that) is planned to be introduced in the US. It sounds like a reincarnation of the glorious ChocoLite bar. I can't wait!!

Isn't it strange? I was just craving the ChocoLite bar and I googled it and here we are! Ah...the collective unconscious...Anyway, I loved it, even at the tender age of, what, like 6? I'm off to google more randomness....

Did the choco lite have a tv commercial that featured a boatful of people on a chocolate river?

I loved the Choco-lite bar and wish they still made them! Like Ryan, I just googled it and found out that I am not alone. Think we could convince Nestle to bring it back in the interest of nostalgia?

Unfortunately, I never had a Choco-lite bar, but my mother talks about them constantly. So, I did a lot of research and for Mother's Day I bought her a candy bar made by Nestle, called the Aero bar. It too is a Canadian product but can be purchased through Amazon.com. Here is a link: http://www.amazon.com/Aero-10-Chocolate-Canada-Superstore/dp/B000MWFJAM/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=gourmet-food&qid=1212771790&sr=8-1

All I remember from the commercial was that it was a cartoon and there was one part where a girl was flying atop a Chocolite bar, the bar had wings as it flew. I do remember a chocolate river now that you mention it.

I loved choco-lites too! I'm on a (unfulfilled) search for some of my old favorites. Choco-Lites, Milk Shake Candy Bars, Yohoo Candy Bars. No luck so far. But other posters are correct, Aero bars are the closest you will find to a choco-lite

i agree with many of you-if we all contacted nestle or whoever made this wonderful candy bar(and all other companies who used to make good food products)maybe they would re-make these items-maybe if we told them of this site they would see all the people who long for the old products. one condition-NO NEW OR IMPROVED VERSIONS!(no trans fats or sugar free or whatever crap they want to force on us-let us spend our remaining years enjoying our memories to the fullest!)hell, all the tv commercials are aimed at us now(set to music like led zeppelin, queen, etc.)why not sell us what we already proved we liked?

I LOVED Choco Lite!!! I crave it about every 3 weeks, 2 days, and 4 hours (approx). Could we maybe buy the recipe, and start making it on our own. I remember the sugar in the chocolate cruncing between my teeth. It was my favorite candy bar. Ah, the good ole days.

Chocolite was my favorite candy bar when I was little. I remember my friends and I going up to Jakes candy store for chocolites and penny candy. I haven't had any or seen any since those days. I thought the chocolite was a figment of my adult imagination until I googled it. I'm crushed they have been discontinued completely.

Wow. I sat down and wondered what i could google up about my childhood....I thought about my very first loved Chocolate bar,"Choco-lite".I couldnt beleive my eyes that i found that any of you at all are out there still in love with and in searh of this candy bar! How sweet it is! Ya know, if all of us on here e-mail Nestle's we might make a difference and bring it back! I agree with "crazy amy"...NO NEW AND IMPROVED VERSIONS,just that same ol' choco-liciousness we all still crave to this very day, decades later!! I hope there wasn't any artifical sweeteners in it cause im allergic. Hey "Barb" im with you, i'd love to see a photo of this choco-sensation once again!! Hey "Mark"...i dont remember the wrapper being yellow with brown trim? I'm glad you said that though, i just remember chowin down on it (smiles!). Well, every one, if all else fails, all of us here could pitch in and ask to purchase the recipe, like "JCP" suggested, sound like a good idea?! Does to me, that is, if all else fails....Question: Exactly why did this choco-lite bar get discontinued anyway?
Tim - October 03, 2008 - Report this comment
Why must everyone say "google it"? Google has enough money and the people who came up with the name are laughing that it became part of the internet lingo. Milkshake was also a good bar.

Another product gone from my childhood....I couldn't remember the name until I came to this website. I bought the Aero bar awhile back from Cost Plus Imports here in Modesto, Ca and instant memories...I remember a yellow wrapper around the bar and a brown wrapper on the outside...Didn't it come only like in four pieces but connected? I also remember the little "window" or "fan shaped" design printed on each piece.

Aero bars are not the same. They are similar, but the texture is different. I LOVED Chocolites....I cannot believe Nestle won't give them another try. Never should have stopped making them to begin with considering some of the crappy candy they still sell.

Chocolite was my favorite chocolate fix as a kid. I can still taste it to this day! And that yellow and brown wrapper so vivid in my mind. Why is it i have problems remembering things that happened last week HA HA - Nestle should bring back the candy bars from the 70's as part of a retro promotion or something. Make the candy available for a limited time - see how the sales go this time around. Maybe I'll share the thought with Nestle -Hey, I'm desperate!

Oh my gosh a site devoted to my all time favorite candy bar that I have mourned the loss of every day since it was discontinued?! DANG! I wish I had a Chocolite! C'mon brothers and sisters of ChocoLite let's get together and storm the Nestle office with emails asking them to remake this heavenly bar. Hey in England, Cadbury put one of their candy bars Wispa back on the market after public outcry when it was discontinued. Look on the England Cadbury site about Wispa and see the whole story on there how they listened to the customers and brought Wispa back. Complaining works!

This is TOO funny. I occasionally Google something from my past that I recall -especially when friend and family members tell me they don't recall any such thing and try to make me feel like I imagined it!!! Like Body On Tap shampoo. Everyone I asked said they didn't remember it and had never heard of such a thing, so I googled it to make sure I wasnt losing my mind. I was talking about Choco'Lite bars with my mother the other day and she didn't remember any such candy bar. My brother and I used to eat them all the time. I always wondered why they quit making them. Lets get a petition going and send to Nestle.

I think the jingle was "Chocolate never felt as thick and light as Choco Lite" followed by a voice over saying "it feels so light, like it had wings". Anyway my brother and I used to eat these all the time, we LOVED them!

I too remember the Choco lite bar as a kid. When we went to my grandmother's during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays we visited this small gas station/general store just up the road. My cousin's with their parents would all embark on a journey to the store. Sometimes though, just my brother and I with my mom and grandmother would visit on a more consistent basis. I remember that the owner's house was connected to the back of the store. She walked down a short hallway with a door at each end to go between house and store. Of course the gas station/store had only two pumps and was open from 7am-6pm M-Sat and closed on Sunday. Mrs. Sessems was her name. She was a sweet old lady, she loved children and I always looked forward to visiting her. Anyway, I remember even though the store was small she had a huge candy selection that was encased in a cabinet with a glass front that doubled as the checkout counter. All you had to do was tell her what you wanted and she opened the cabinet to get the item. My brother and I were allowed 3 candy bars each and a soda. I ALWAYS ASKED for 2 CHOCO LITE bars. THOSE WERE MY FAVORITE AND MAN THEY ROCKED! Sometimes, I would get a Mary Jane as my third choice. Since we were repeat customers Mrs. Sessems remembered us and usually slipped us a free candy bar of our choice when we thought mom wasn't looking. I also remember we only paid .15 for each candy bar and .25 for a 16oz GLASS BOTTLE Pepsi. ALL SODA tastes better in a glass bottle PERIOD. I have read most of the other comments of fellow Choco lite'teers and feel your pain. I too wish that Nestle would bring it back even if for a short time. I have seen Hershey's package some of their bars in their old fashioned labels and sending them out to sell. I think the Choco lite bar in its nostalgic wrapper would make a nice addition. In my attempts at surfing the web I have encountered several statements as to why the bar was discontinued. Most commonly was that the sales of the Choco lite bar sharply declined compared to the Hershey's lineup. I guess that is the democracy of Corporate America for you. Of course, you can't get Pepsi in a 16oz GLASS bottle anymore either. Now they are in cans or plastic bottles and not for a Quarter, more like $1.25 out of your pocket. Several of you have commented on the Aero bar, some say that the flavor is a good likeness to the Choco lite while others not so much. I think that for old time’s sake I will take the plunge and try one. To all, I bid you happy hunting.

I cannot believe all of the people posting comments about this candy bar! This was my absolute favorite candy bar as a child (i'm 38 years old) and whenever I mention it people look at me like I'm delusional. I was starting to think that maybe there was no such thing - so I googled it and ended up here. As for the Aero bar - I live fairly close to Canada (where it is manufactured) and there are a few local stores that carry it. The original Aero bar was similar, but just not the same (it seemed less firm than the Choco Lite and it was not as thick). They have started to expand on the original Aero and made a version with caramel and one that is thicker. They are both very good. Kitty - I am on my way to the Vermont Country Store website to add to the product suggestion area.

It totally rocks that there was this site that came up when I was searching to see if Choco-lite was the actual name of a candy bar! I was in Canada recently and I saw the Aero Chocolate bar by Nestle's and I thought....Hmmm that reminds me of an old candy bar from my youth! But I couldn't immediately remember the name of it. I bought one (of course) and although it wasn't as good as the original Choco-lites I immediately was taken back to the 70's!! The Aero bar is not as thick...and it is missing something. I don't know if the original had some 'crisps' or if the bubbles were smaller. Or, it's possible that like many things, we always remember them being better than they actually were!

The closest thing to ChocoLite (my childhood fave!) that I have found is a Russian candy bar that has the air bubbles in it. I can't read Russian, so I'm not sure what they're called. The Russian bars are thinner and are dark chocolate. I highly recommend them...if you can find them. Perhaps your town has a Russian general store? That's where I buy mine. Good stuff.

I also remember this candy bar, it was my favorite too! The thing that stands out in my memory was that right around Halloween there was a big scare that there were "glass particles" in the chocolite bars, which turned out to be tiny sugar particles that were crunchy, but after that it disappeared. I have trouble finding people who remember it as well. I remember in the commercial they stacked up two or three regular candy bars to compare it to how much bigger it was than a regular candy bar.

Oh! This is fantastic! I no longer feel like a lonely freakish loser longing for the taste of a lovely chocolate bar that hasn't tempted my tastebuds for at least 30 years! Thank you Daily Ping -- and fellow ChocoLite lovers! My father would buy ChocoLite's for us every once in a while. They were ALWAYS my favorite! He would also buy a bag of the small ones (like "fun size" before there was a "fun size") and keep them in the pantry tucked inside the yellow metal cabinet above the big counter. The little ones consisted of 2 of the squares and were wrapped and sold in a bag. I have read in several of the previous posts that people describe the design on the chocolate as a sea shell...I always thought it was a half of a wagon wheel. Oh well...Anyways, sometimes at night if I couldn't sleep I would come downstairs and my father would take me into the kitchen. He would disappear into the pantry for a moment and reappear with a little ChocoLite for me and one for him. We would sit at the kitchen table and quietly eat our beloved treats! He would ask me if I would be able to get to sleep? I would assure him that I would. Then I would say thank you to my Dad, give him a hug and a kiss and run back upstairs and hop into bed feeling like we had just completed some sort of secret mission for the government or something! It was like it was our little thing that we would do. I dont think my mom even knew that the ChocoLites were up in that cabinet! I am certain that she could not have reached them even if she did know! I think about those times often. My dad would suprise my sister and me with a ChocoLie from the store every once in a while. I always loved them. So fun to eat! I forever will associate ChocoLite's with wonderful times with my Father. I miss them both very very much. Thank you for sharing your memories. I have enjoyed reading them.

Ahhh . . . memories of childhood. I loved the chocolite bars and yes I have tried Aero but it just doesn't have the same... would "mouthfeel" be the right word? Or maybe it tastes different. I think Nestle changed their milk chocolate formula in the 80s during their expansion because it has lost that slight je ne sais quoi that a good middle-level milk chocolate like Ghirardelli or Cadbury has and Hershey does not. I'll try to hunt up a Whispa and see how close that it.

Aero is good, but I do remember the sugary crunch. I think nestle lied about not enough sales. I also remember the long marathon bars and yes there is a similar canadian bar...curly whirly I think...I had one not long ago

I remember being in the 6th grade in the late 70's & going to the corner candy store on my lunch break for a "chocolite". They cost 10 cents then so my granny would give me a quarter every day & I'd buy my 2 chocolites and devour them before heading back to class. There were 4 or 5 pieces and they were "scored" so you could break off a piece at a time or just stuff the whole bar into your pie-hole!! The chocolate was SOOOOO creamy, it would melt in my fingers while I held it!! Why in the world would Nestle discontinue making it when so many of us enjoyed & obviously PAID for them so that had to make the Nestle company money right?? I have tried the "Aero" bar.. doesn't come close to my chocolite-no way , no how! There was another candy bar from the late 70's I am trying to locate & was told they stopped making that one too.. I believe it was made by Hershey & it was called a "Rally" bar.. God that candy was sooooo good! Not unlike a BabyRuth or O' Henry, but Rally had a much smoother creamy chocolate outside coating & inside the nougat just had a very delicious flavor... Anyone here remember the "Rally" bar?? Let's all put our money together & open up our own chocolate candy factory & make NOTHING BUT CHOCOLITES & RALLY BARS!!!!!!!

When the guy(for some reason I remember a little guy) walks up to the chef like guy with a clear plastic bag filled with the invisible holes. The chef guy takes out one of the holes to sample their taste before they get added to the pot of cooking chocolate. He made the holes look so delicious. Great commercial to puzzle a child's mind and imagination. They really tasted so good. Wispa (eating one right now) although good and airy like consistency, not the same at all. No holes. Holes are the active ingredient!

I remember that the scored pieces had little half-moon looking emblems on them...Wispa is ok, Aero is better, but nothing...NOTHING comes close to the Chocolite Bar

Mikey- yer soo right! I remember the Rally candy bar...I'd forgotten about it. Yes indeed, it was great! It's certainly up there with the likes of the Choco'Lite, which I am saddened by it's demize as well. Guess we'll never know why these great candy bars dissapeared like they did.

I didn't like it. I mean, more power to you guys if you like it. To each his own. However, I never how puffing something up with air made it better. I want my chocolate thick and rich, not insubstantial. I worked at Wendy's and had better Frostys than the public can get by taking out the air thingy on top of the machine that puffs air into a Frosty. It made it really good and thick. I hate penne pasta too. But sorry, don't mean to yuck your yum.

I've been called crazy by my older brothers who don't remember the Choco'Lite bar! They only remember the Purple Passion soda from back then. I think if Nestle did bring it back they would sell pretty good unless our taste memories are fooling us...

Here at work today there was a chocolate vendor. I heard him say "this tastes just like the Aero Bar." He was referring to "Bubble Chocolate." I'm eating it right now, but it does not compare to the great taste of Chocolite. I also remember the candy bar called "Summit" which I loved.

Loved choco'lite. Aero does not do it. Also enjoyed licking the yellow wrapper. It had a very distinct taste. Not good, but memorable. The bar was great, and i am happy to see others remember the little fan shaped windows! The Vermont Country Store has been successful getting companies to reintroduce products on a limited scale. Perhaps they are the ones who should appeal to nestle. They are always looking for product suggestions.

I, too, remember the Choco-Lite bar from my childhood. It was my all-time favorite and nothing has ever even come close to taking it's place for me. Several years ago I sent a letter to Nestle inquiring about it and got the story of it didn't sell very well, so they discontinued it. I kind of find that hard to believe when I see sites like this with so many people who enjoyed them as kids/teens. I agree that if we could get them to make it again, even if they do it as a "limited edition" kind of thing, they would probably be surprised at fast they would go. I know I'd probably buy cases of them; LOL!! Come on, NESTLE, give the people what they want!!!

Bubble chocolate is nothing like Choco-Lite. Bubble Chocolate's texture is dry and airy like chalk(Good flavor). Choco-Lite was creamy and really good. Seems like it had little micro-crispies or something too. I loved it when I was young.

I would LOVE a ChocoLite bar right now! I am so glad to find that I'm not the only one who remembers it so fondly. Strange, why do so many people not know what we're talking about when we all remember it so well?? I love the details some people are giving, like the fan shaped design on each section, and how the bubbles were somehow "crispy". I remember so well - the yellow wrapper, the thick milk chocolate sections with those magic little crispy bubbles. Dang, ChocoLite, come back to me....

Until i found this web site, i thought i was the only one who ever heard of the Choco-lite bar. I'm glad there are others like me who miss that smooth chocolate with the tiny air bubbles that had a crunch like a Crunch bar but way better!!! Nestle needs to replace the Crunch with the Choco-lite!! If they did, i would buy them by the case!!! No chocolate today even comes close to all of our childhood memories of that Delicious, Scrumptious, Choco-lite bar!! Please Nestle, BRING THEM BACK!!!

I am glad to see that others remember this bar as I do. I loved the bubbles and the tiny crunchy bits. It was my absolute favorite candy bar of all time! Aero comes close, but not quite the same as it lacks the crunchy bits. I cant find any retail sites close to me so I buy Aero bars when I go to Canada, England and France. I bring them home by the boatload!!! I understand I can order Aero from Amazin.com now...will have to do that. C'mon Nestle, isnt it time to listen to us???

I am 81 years old and I remember a Nestle PUFF chocolate bar athat I loved. It is the same as most of you described. It was milk chocolate and when you placed them in your mouth, it felt like tiny bubbles were bursting as the chocolate melted. OOOOhhh so good and creamy. It was called Nestlepuff though, I don't know if it is the same but sure sounds like it.S5G

My favorite treat was always the Chocolite Bar. I have tried many similar bars like the Aero and the Wispa etc. Nothing really compares. They are missing the crunch. I swear the closest thing to them is still the crisp bar...but add more chocolate. Such a drag. I came to this site because I am also still trying to find Pine Brother's Wild Cherry cough drops!!! Both are on the discontinued list. Boo Hiss!

I thought I was the only one who loved these things! I remember everything everyone said above--the commercials, the way it tasted, the lovely little crunchy noise it made when you chewed it... Oh man I miss this candy bar!

I have been lamenting the absence of Chocolite for years- my husband doesn't even remember them. The descriptions of the commercials above has only increase my longing for a Chocolite - I remember the cartoon-young-people sliding down the chocolate slide and landing in a chocolate river or pool. And the wrapper of the candy bar had those cool 70's-style letters... If Nestle ever remade them they would probably have to change the name, as anything labeled "lite" would be construed to be low-calorie, which I'm sure these bars were NOT! I Miss Chocolites - have had an Aero bar and they are NOT the same - not as creamy and the bubbles don't have that crunch. I miss Chocolites!

My favorite candy bar of all time and they took it away. I searched and searched every store I could find until I realized they don't make it anymore. WHY would they do this? I would but every day if they brought it back.I miss it sooo much.

I also remember the ChocoLite and Marathon bars, and have found nearly identical bars in England, called the Wispa and Curly Wurly, respectively. There are a lot of great chocolate and other candies available in England that are either not available or discontinued here. If you can find a British import store in your community or online, you should be able to find these. British chocolates are absolutely WONDERFUL!!

Every time I go to get a candy bar I secretly hope that I will find the Choco-lite! I loved these as a kid in the 70's also...I think I must have eaten at least a 1000 of them LOL! I would love for my Grandkids to experience them too! BRING EM BACK!!!!

My family memebers worked at Nestles in Fulton, Ny while I was growing up. I have great memories of my Grandparents bringing home candy from the factory store (they both retired and worked in the store. One of my favorite candy bars was the Choco- Lite bar, I believe it wasa brown wrapper with yellow lettering. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who remembers the choco- lite bar. Some people think I'm crazy when I mention it. Yes, the Aero bar is similar, but still is not the same. I also like the slight crunch it had as one of the earlier people posted as well. Please bring back the Choco- Lite bar!!!! P.S. I remember my mother who also worked there saying that they stopped making it because they lost the recipe!!! I really don't know if I believe that or not, Could that really be possible????

Aaah. The Chocolite Bar. I used to eat them several times a week. As soon as I had money I went to the local five and dime and bought them. They were the best. I wrote to Nestle asking that they bring them back or at least sell Aero bars in the states. Waiting for a response.

I was an adolescent in the 70s and used to be dragged to the supermarket (Jewell in Chicagoland) by my mother. She would say each time before we entered the store that if I was good, I would get a Choco-lite candy bar. I was better than good! Man, I miss that candy bar like being 8 years old.

I LOVED the Choco-Lite Bar,too!I remember the commercial for it...there was a big guy dressed like a chef with a kid standing beside him. They both were in front of a huge kettle filled with melted chocolate. The "chef" had a big plastic bag filled with air.He opened the bag and dumped the "holes" into the chocolate in the kettle.Remember that, anyone?I would LOVE it if Nestle would start making that candy bar again!YUM!!!

Like many others here, I too had started to wonder if I had imagined the Chocolite. When I mention it to others they don't know what I'm talking about. Could that mean that it really wasn't such a great seller, as Nestle says, even if all of us really liked it? Anyway, I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who misses it enough to do a little searching. Too bad it's gone. Did Nestle also stop making their milk chocolate bar (looks like a 'Crunch" with a red wrapper)? I can't find those anywhere either.

My daughter just returned from a trip to Switzerland and brought back some chocolate of various kinds. I was sample one and realized it was exactly like Choco'lite. That set me out of a journey to figure out how I could order more of the same stuff online (which is also how I found this site). The Swiss chocolate I found that was pretty much exactly like Choco'lite was the Cailler Rayon bar. It's available on the Cailler site (www.cailler.ch), but it's pretty expensive to import to the US. A few other sites sell it in the US (e.g. http://www.theswissbakeryonline.com/store/p/505-Rayon-Milk-Chocolate-with-Honey-Nougat.html and http://www.swissfoodstore.com/product/swiss-chocolate-cailler-rayon-milk/), but I can't vouch for the legitimacy of these sites. I'm going to ording some. Good luck to all.
