You know I remember this like it was yesterday. I'm certain it was College Inn but I emailed them and they responded saying they have never carried a product such as this. It was in a clear jar and your right it was a mostly blue label.
The Noodler - May 09, 2009 - Report this comment
Check the links. Dinty Moore (blue label, owned by Hormel) still makes their Chicken and Noodles. I was pretty sure it was a Hormel product and an absolute favorite of mine as a kid.

I know exactly which "noodles" in a jar you are referring to. I remember it from the 50's & 60's. Yes, it was "College Inn" and the noodles were were soft, wide, and packed with small chicken chunks. This, together with Swanson Chicken ala King, pimentos and bread crumbs, cooked under a broiler, was a dish indescribably savory and satisfying. I too wish the product was still available!!!
Lisa - November 02, 2010 - Report this comment
I am so glad someone else remembers this. It WAS College Inn. In a tall, glass jar, kind of flat on two sides. Nice thick noodles, chunks of chicken, and not too much broth. My mom always had a few jars in the cabinet. I really miss it, and wish it was still available!!! College Inn -- c'mon -- this was the best. I'd buy a case right now. :)

I loved college in Chicken and noodles. It was the best noodle soup in the entire world. I was so sad when they stopped making it in the late 1970's. It has such strong memories associated with family warmth from nights when my dad worked late and my mom let my brother and I eat what we wanted. My brother had Kraft dinner and I had College Inn.

During the 50's and 60's we had it a lot for lunch when I was a child. I don't know why they stopped making it. I've tried to find a recipe so I could make it myself...but I can't get it the way I remembered it.

Oh..... I was hoping I could get some still. My sisters 50th birthday is coming up and she loved it as much as I did!!! We've discussed how GREAT it was. Thought I'd buy her a case for the BIG 50 !!!! Is tyhere anywhere to get it?

I too remember, with salivating admiration, College Inn Chicken & Noodles, in a tall clear glass jar, close to 20-24 ounces as I recall, made a very satisfying one-dish meal, perfectly suited for heating with the microwave ovens then coming into vogue. Don't remember much about the label although the present-day "College Inn" label does seem familiar. I am awaiting a response I sent to their web site (collegeinn dot com) but am not hopeful that any miracles will happen. May call also (eight hundred fife fife two seven six eight four.)

Has anyone tried a recipe for College Inn Chicken and Noodles and even come close? That was the BEST noodle soup in the world and I still crave it even though I haven't had it in decades. I would make it at home if it took all day. I miss it.

I contacted College Inn a few years ago and received the apologetic response that they no longer make the product. Yes,,It was definitely College Inn. Oh how I remember coming home for lunch as a young child and having those great noodles.

I used to eat this chicken and noodles and crave it every so often. I would butter some bread and serve it over the bread. It was scrumptious. Such a simple dish. I can still hear the lid popping when you opened it. I would buy a case too! Come on College Inn, take a hint. I am so glad that there are others out there who remember and loved it like I did! Those were the days.

I was just asking my husband if he remembered having College Inn chicken and noodles in a jar. When I came home for lunch in high school, Mom would have that ready for me. It was quick to fix and filling. No microwaves in the early 60's.
debi - February 24, 2012 - Report this comment
College Inn Chicken and Noodles was the best chicken soup even made. My mom would send this with me in a thermos to school in the 60's. It became harder and harder to find as the years went by and disappeared by 1980, I believe when the original company was sold. It all came out of the old Sherman House hotel in Chicago which had a restaurant called College Inn. Chef Joe Colton gave us many dishes that are now standards like Chicken ala King. I would like a recipe for his chicken and noodles. Using the college inn broth, I have tried to reproduce the flavor, to no avail. It was the noodles. They were amazing.

I didn't know about College Inn Chicken & Noodle until my late twenties...but when I did I couldn't believe there was such a thing! My parents were pretty stupid when it came to food. It really was great and I wish it was still made. Maybe if enough people request it they'd bring it back like they did hard-tack on the east coast.

I also remember College Inn Chicken and Noodles. The noodles were thick and the broth was almost (but not quite) gelatinous. The chicken was always choice cut. No fat oe skin. The lid was golden metallic and was pressed or popped onto a six sided, flat clear glass jar. We would buy it every week in the early sixties. It was wonderful!

I remember sitting in my girl friend's mother's little apartment kitchen. She prepared a jar of College Inn Chicken and Noodles and since we were both very hungry from our sexual romp she was frying a couple of pork chops in addition. I distinctly remember that meal. As we ate "In the Year 2525" played on the radio.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=izQB2-Kmiic The year was 1969 and that might have been the last time I had that College Inn product. Good memories.

My mom was a young widow and had to work 3 jobs to take care of my brother and I. She cleaned houses and when we would go with her she would always bring a jar of College Inn Chicken and Noodles. Absolutely, College Inn Chicken and Noodles was the BEST!!! Mom used to bring home and if I was there it was gawn gone. IF THIS WAS SERVED TO THEM AS LUNCH DURING ONE OF THEIR BOARD MEETINGS...I BET WE WOULD STILL HAVE IT! BUTTERED FRENCH BREAD, LETTUCE & TOMATO SALAD, AND COLLEGE IN EGG NOODLES & CHICKEN...LET'S START A PETITION TO BRING IT BACK OR HAVE THEM RE-CREATE THIS FOOD OF THE GODS...LOL!...BUT I AM SERIOUS BOOMERS...WE GOTTA TAKE A STAND SOMETIMES. Just today, my well grown son called to say he was really sick and was wondering if I knew where they carried that chicken and noodle dinner I gave them as kids. I told him they used to carry it here in town at Ralph's Mkt, but I hadn't seen it around for a couple of years. During the 70s the name brand was Linden's (in a jar), but sometime or other they were either bought out, or the original recipe was purchased, by Nalley Food Products, and their newer version came in a can. So darn good that we all hanker after it with the fondest memories, and drool copiously whenever it's mentioned. If it were still available we'd be up for cases of it too!

There might have been imitations, but College Inn "Egg Noodles with Chicken" is something I ate regualry from about 1957 to the early 1970s. The last jar I ever found was at an IGA store in Chamberlain, South Dakota in 1975. I ate it cold in the parking lot. Even cold, it surpassed every chicken noodle soup I ever tasted. Yes, it was in a tall, sort of oval-shaped, clear glass jar with a light blue label, and you had to use a bottle opener to pry off the lid. I've written to College Inn, but the people who answer their letters are young enought to be my grandchildren, so they have no clue ...

New Copycat Recipe from the Chef I have very fond memories of eating this. I'm so happy I'm not the only one who reminisces this amazing chicken noodle dinner in a can. I remember as a early teen going fishing with my grandpa and uncle and them cooking it in a pot on the camp stove with plenty of black pepper. I live in Washington state where this was readily available. It was Nalleys chicken noodle dinner. Then the name changed to Lyndens. But Lyndens recipe wasn't the same at all and it wasn't even close the noodles were flat and the color was like a regular egg noodle and the broth was like a soup. Nalleys had less wide and thicker noodles and was a white color, and a creamy thicker broth. As a chef who like to experiment. I created a recipe for Nalleys back in 2014. The noodles are the key. So here it is and it is nearly identical and it really reminds me of that delicious can of sustenance I grew up with. You will need to find japanese udon noodles. They will appear white and look like linguini but much thicker. Try to find ones that aren't to thick or round though because some udon are the size of rope licorice. Ok you got that, the rest is easy. Cook noodles according to directions then chill in ice water. Next in a pot add 1 can of Campbell cream of chicken soup plus half can of milk and half can water. Bring to a simmer. Continue to cook to thicken slightly. Next add canned peas, canned diced carrots, and canned chunk chicken breast then add chilled noodles. Heat for 3 to 5 minutes. Simple and delicious. Feel free to experiment with the sauce. Another way would be to use chicken gravy in a can and add milk or you could try chicken broth from a carton with a little milk plus a corn-starch slurry to thicken (my fav & preferred method). Also you can use frozen peas and carrots to make it a little bit more Homestyle with fresh poached chicken breast chopped. I hope you make it and enjoy it I think it is possibly the closest you can get and I really think that this needs to be back in the stores. Let me know what you think. Everyone here is my kinda person. Contact chefmike01 at hotmail dot com

I wish I could duplicate this recipe. (The above recipe by Chef doesn't seem quite right). This is probably the best soup I ever had in my life, (so far) hands down. The last time I saw it sold was in the 80s in New York. I tried calling College in and the first time they said they never made it. Then I called years later and they said it was discontinued. I really don't know why they don't revive it. They would make a ton of money. Maybe we can start a campaign?

I have to say I don’t remember College I chicken and noodles but I definitely remember Collage Inn CHICKEN in a jar. My mother would make Chicken aka king or chicken sandwiches with it. The she would wash out the jar and use it as a glass jar

I was raised in Southern California and it was labelled Lynden's: clear glass jar, wide noodles and chicken, right. So Lynden's wasn't just Washington. Delicious. Part of my love for pasta. Cheers.

Yep, College Inn Noodles and Chicken in the same jar everyone is describing. So wonderful and delicious. Obviously memorable! Why would such a great product stop being produced? I could it it right out of the jar. Wholesome and totally satisfying. Wake up, College Inn!

West of the Rockies, we had swansons noodles and chicken. Now I can only find chicken a la king by swansons. My son is now searching for a recipe like that because he is craving just that thing.
