Oh man, this was the best cereal! I use to love the way it made the milk turn vanilla flavored. (Nesquick Vanilla drink takes me back to that taste). I’ve contacted Quaker twice about bringing it back, both times they said they can’t promise but you never know. Everyone should call them… strength in numbers!

Rob Lambert - June 12, 2012 - Report this comment
Cap'n Crunch Vanilly Crunch was not bad. I preferred original or Crunch Berries myself. Probably slow sales shortened this cereal's shelf life (1973-1975). In a magazine, I found a strange cross-promotion ad involving this cereal and the Marx Big Wheel. If you bought four boxes of Cap'n Crunch (any type), and a Marx Big Wheel, send the store receipts and Cap'n Crunch box tops, get a three-dollar rebate. You'd have to spend $20 or more to get the rebate. This was in mid-1974.
Tom - June 13, 2012 - Report this comment
So good to see this. I don't know anyone who remembers this variety of Cap'n Crunch, or Wilma. I recall it distinctly, around 1974. I was about six, and for some reason Wilma the Whale and the oddball vanilla flavor really struck me as novel. Loved it.

I also LOVED Vanilly Crunch and even though it may not be the healthiest cereal, this would be the one I'd induldge on... Bring it back and I'd buy it. :-)

I think they need to bring it back. no one could tell me why they discontinued it. I would like to know. If anyone can figure out a way to get them too I'm in. lets see this favorite cereal come back.
Rob Lambert - July 12, 2012 - Report this comment
To Scott, Jill and all who really want Vanilly Crunch back: Heavy appealing to a new generation of corporate brass at Quaker may help. Unfortunately, Vanilly Crunch wasn't nearly as popular. Given the longevity of orginal Cap'n Crunch (1963), Crunch Berries (1968) and Peanut Butter Crunch (1969). Likely, all who worked at Quaker in the early '70s are gone. I, for one, was always bewildered as to how Peanut Butter Crunch survived over 40 years...it wasn't that good.
Conrad - July 23, 2012 - Report this comment
I also really loved Vanilly Crunch. So here's another request to bring it back (if anyone from the company ever checks these things.)

Cereal freak - October 05, 2012 - Report this comment
This was vanilla years before vanilla became popular in everything else (candles, room fresheners, other cereals, etc.). Loved this cereal. I can still taste it. Mmmmm.... Don't know why they got rid of it. It seemed to sell really well. It was always sold out at the grocery store, and all our neighbors had it, too. WHY DID THEY DISCONTINUE IT?? Maybe the chemicals were dangerous.....
Bobby D - October 06, 2012 - Report this comment
I've told my kids about this cereal for years. Know one I know remembers Vanilly Cap'n Crunch. Glad to see I'm not alone on this, bring it back!
Rob Lambert - October 06, 2012 - Report this comment
Answering to Cereal Freak: Vanilly Crunch was discontinued in 1975 because sales were not strong enough to be profitable. It simply wasn't popular enough to rival original Cap'n Crunch or Crunch Berries. To my knowledge, Vanilly Crunch was not recalled for any reason.

Cap'n Crunch's Vanilly Crunch was my favorite cereal from childhood - and of course, discontinued. Its mascot was "Wilma, the winsome white whale" - a friendly female whale who wore lipstick and had long eyelashes. Quaker's latest entry to the Cap'n Crunch series, "Cinnamon Roll Crunch" is delicious beyond description - and reminds me of "Cracker Jack Cereal" - a short-lived mid-80s phenomenon. I still have a Cracker Jack cereal bowl from that time. I fear that the negative opinions of a handful of bloggers will make this cereal disappear forever. I wish that Quaker would splurge for its baby boomer customers - and bring back, at least, a limited run of Vanilly Crunch. Is that asking too much of big business?

I am so thrilled right now. FOR DECADES...I have sworn this product existed. NOBODY believed me! I even remembered the whale. now best memory of this kick-ass cereal was not only the taste, but even more-so the SMELL! Best ever! I used to get in trouble in kindergarten b/c I would beg my Mom to let me bring the WHOLE BOX to school. Not to eat...BUT TO SMELL! I would carry it around and put it under my nose for nap-time, drifting off into slumber to the greatest smells ever. I can't quite remember how it looked, but I loved it.

Vanilly Crunch was my absolute favorite cereal when I was a kid back in the mid 70's. I am now 51 years old and I would be so pumped to see this cereal back on the shelves. To be able to taste this one more time would be AWESOME and take me right back to my childhood. PB Crunch and Regular Crunch are good but are not in the class of Vanilly Crunch. Bring it back Quaker!!

Like so many others here, Vanilly Crunch was my favorite cereal as a kid, and I'd like to see it brought back. If you'd like to see that happen, too, call Quaker - 800 234 6281 and ask them to bring back Vanilly Crunch. I've done it a couple times, but there's strength in numbers. No one there will know what Vanilly is, so maybe suggest it like a new idea - Can you bring out a vanilla flavored crunch in a ball shape, like Cinnamon Roll Crunch? To me, the more recent Cinnamon Roll Crunch, which is now off the market as well, had ingredients similar to Vanilly Crunch. It was like Vanilly Crunch with cinnamon added on top. I don't think if they get enough requests for a vanilla crunch, there's a strong possibility. So even suggest it to your friends on Facebook. Give the phone # above, and suggest they call and recommend it. (I'm not sure if we're allowed to put phone numbers in these links, but if not, just find the toll free number on the side of any Cap'n Crunch box.)

From the Saturday morning cartoon vault: TV commercial in which the Good Ship Guppy starts sinking! Wilma the Whale takes the ship on her back and brings it safely to the mainland for repair. This aired on "Ghostbusters" over CBS (10/11/75). NOT the Bill Murray series, but the original Krofft show that reunited two "F-Troop" co-stars, Forrest Tucker and Larry Storch.
Rob Lambert - March 27, 2017 - Report this comment
Correction on last comment: The live-action "Ghostbusters" series was by Filmation, not Krofft. This was the first live-action show produced by the well-known cartoon factory. The buffoonery of Tucker and Storch resembled that of a Krofft show.

From the Saturday morning cartoon vault, a combined TV spot for Vanilly and Cinnamon Crunch cereals. Wilma the whale helps prevent Good Ship Guppy from being commandeered by pirate Jean LeFoote. This aired on "New Adventures of Gilligan" over ABC (9/21/74). The first sequel to the classic CBS series which ended in 1967. Series was produced by low-budgeted Filmation studios. All but two original cast members lent their voices (Tina Louise and Dawn Wells declined, had other commitments). While Gilligan, Skipper Jonas, Prof. Hinckley and the Howells were animated close to their likenesses, Ginger looked and sounded more like Sabrina (Archies), while the cartoon Mary Ann was more cynical, crass and less attractive than original, sweet Wells. Filmation's mistress of female voicing, Jane Webb-Edwards did both in the first 16 episode cartoon. Most stories carried a pro-social lesson or moral about environment, teamwork, jealousy, etc. Dawn Wells did return for the 1982 "Gilligan's Planet" cartoon sequel, voicing Ginger and Mary Ann.

Found more Vanilly Crunch box pictures. From mid 1974, Sea Dog was on box (preceded Wilma Whale). From 1975, toy mini binoculars in specially marked box. I'm also using this to mark 50 years of Crunch Berries in '18. From the Saturday morning cartoon vault, an early TV spot with Cap'n and crew on the uncharted island where Crunch Berry bushes exist, and the crew saves the friendly Crunch Berry Beast from being taken (to sell) by pirate Jean LeFoote. This aired on "George of the Jungle" over ABC (3/9/68). Along with George, Super Chicken and Tom Slick cartoons filled the hilarious 30-minute show.
Rob Lambert - April 27, 2018 - Report this comment
From the Saturday morning cartoon vault, Jean LeFoote and his band of pirates bandage their feet, using stealth strategy to board the Guppy at night, attempting to swipe the Vanilly Crunch. Carlyle, the little mute kid, traps them and alerts Cap'n crunch with a whistle. This aired on "These Are the Days" (cartoon set in early 1900s) over ABC (9/28/74). Also, an earlier commercial with the Guppy crew visiting Robinson Crusoe, an old Hermit who wanted no company until he tasted Cap'n crunch cereal. This aired on "Tom & Jerry" over CBS (9/25/65). Crusoe was voiced by Shepard Menken, who was better known as the wacky inventor, Clyde Crashcup, on the "Alvin" show.

From the Saturday morning cartoon vault, we go back a few years before Vanilly Crunch. Cap'n Crunch and crew land on Crunch Berry Island in search of the friendly Crunch Berry Beast, who only knows the secret to growing Crunch Berry bushes. Pirate Jean LaFoote wants to profit from the beast, but genius kid Alfie devises a plot to thwart the pirates. This aired during "George of the Jungle" on ABC (1/27/68). Kenner Spirograph, Quisp cereal, Mounds candy bar and Wham-O Frisbee also sponsored. Network promo for "New Beatles" cartoon show. Disney did no justice to this cartoon in the 2004 live action remake. Surprised Disney hasn't copied "Super Chicken" or :Tom Slick," the other cartoons on the "George" show. ABC reran the cartoon on Saturday or Sunday morning until 1970. When the network briefly revived "George of the Jungle" in 1994, much of the simulated violence or displays of a gun were chopped out, making for really disjointed cartoons. Why'd they bother?
