Description
It resembled a moon pie. They came in chocolate and vanilla. I would love to find out if they are still available for purchase.

My brother's favorite snack at recess in our Texas elementary school in the 1950's was the Lance Big Town Cake. It consisted of 2 square slabs of gingerbread cake with marshmallow sandwiched in between, with scalloped edges which was then dipped in either a pink glaze, a chocolate glaze or a creamy beige glaze all of which seemed to taste the same. He favored the dark pink one if it was available from the "cafeteria lady". They cost a nickel and while I really liked them, he loved and craved them. Would give almost anything to be able to find a supply for him.

I GREW UP IN NC WHERE AS A CHILD WE WOULD WALK TO THE NEAREST COUNTRY STORE 6 MILES. WALKING WITHOUT SHOES OR THE HOT SUN DID NOT MATTER. BECAUSE AT THE END I COULD WALK BACK EATING MY FAVORITE A LANCE BIG TOWN CAKE. SO LANCE WHY NOT DO A PROMOTION FOR A FEW MONTHS SUPPLY US WITH OUR FAVORITE CAKE ONE MORE TIME.

In the '50s when my Dad would come home from driving a coal truck he would bring my brother and I, along with the two neighbor kids a Lance Big Town Cake home. We would all set on the front steps and eat them together.

Whenever my brother and I would walk as kids to my aunt's house, we were always allowed to have big town cake after supper. You brought back one of my best and most nostalgic childhood memories.

I grew up in Charlotte, home of Lance. I have emailed 3 times in the past 4 yrs. asking about possibly bringing the B.T. cake back. Once I was told they got rid of the chocolate dipping equipment.Later, I wrote suggesting they sell the recipe to Lil Debbie cakes, saying surely they had the equipment.Lance responded that they were thinking of bringing it back so didn't go for that idea. Well that was about 3yrs.ago, nothing happened.I wrote last week. This time they didn't even give me the courtesy of a reply.I've even told them if they would make them I would buy them and give them out to people free to advertise and boost sales. This was such a great snack cake, far superior to Moon Pie, better than any product Lance makes now. Maybe everyone should email them. WE WANT BIG TOWN CAKES!!!!!
