I have not found this gum on the internet. Any idea who made it? The key was to put the entire slab in your mouth and chew, and try to blow a bubble. It was fun, and I love'd the stuff. One time my Aunt Betty made me spit it out, and said it rediculas to sell kids a product like that. Well that just goes to shoe what she knows!

Same experience. I was partial to green apple. It didn't produce very good bubbles. I think because you have to chew it a while to get the right bubble blowing consistency and I could never keep the whole wad in my mouth long enough. It was too much and I would have to spit it out. Side note on candy consumption. My favorite thing to do with a pack of starburst was to wad them all together into a big ball and eat it like an apple. Yum?

I loved Big Mouth Bubble Gum. My favorite was the grape flavor. Great times.

Oh my Gosh!! I so remember this gum. If I ate all my dinner at Kellar's BBQ in Joplin, Missouri, my dad would buy me a "slab" of Big Mouth bubble gum. Green Apple was the best!

There was a similar product called "Ton O Gum". It was a slab of bubble gum, about the same length & width as a pack of bubblegum cards, but about twice as thick. It was made by either O Pee Chee or Topps, and it came in Regular and Grape (and possibly Apple).

I remember going to 7-11 as a kid in the early 70's and buying Big Mouth Bubblegum. I remember getting these stickers inside of each pack that had cartoon monsters with bulgy eyes driving souped up drag racing cars. Does anyone remember those? Peg - you have stickers from those packs? I'd give anything to get my hands on those. What a slice of childhood!

My big brother used to take me to the store ("Jayhawk Drug"- Topeka, KS)to get candy, and Big Mouth gum was one of our favorites! I was only 4 or 5 so had to take small bites, but he was in high school and would crack me up by getting the whole thing in his mouth! Some of my best memories!

I loved this gum and so did my friends…however, our parents always complained that when we chewed it, the grape and apple flavored/scented gum smelled bad. We of course begged to differ, we though it was wonderful! Like Shannon, I took my younger sister to the store for candy buying trips. Fond memories indeed!

Help us out...why did we think it was called Mouthful Gum. with the monsters driving hot rods stickers. I had them stuck all over my dresser as a kid...gone for good. Buy it if we try to bring a replica back. :)

Big Mouth Bubblegum. Always fun to see how much of the slab you could actually put in your mouth. Green Apple was my favorite. In Jr. High we had a bubble blowing contest to see who could blow the most bubbles inside of each one.

I'm 50 and when I was in "little league" Big Mouth Gum was a must. I forgot grape was one of the flavors.Does anyone remember the gum or candy that came with the posters of boardwalks or amusement parks with all these odd scenes of guys holding up grannys or bullys choking kids, weird stuff all through the scene? Man I wish I would have saved those! Anybody remember those?
Redman - May 11, 2010 - Report this comment
Wasn't this gum called Mouthful? I remember playing little league baseball and trying to put the whole plank in our mouth - and nearly succeeding, suicide sodas - every flavor in one cup, and can someone please tell me where I can find those charicature stickers that had cars of the 70's: Chevelle, Nova, etc... but they were very souped up and being drivin by creatures like gremlins, trolls, and other monsters.

It was called "Mouthful" It was my favorite and I thought I was the only person in the universe that remembered it until I found this thread. There has got to be a picture of the smiley face wrapper somewhere in the world!

The closest I have found is if you look at the wrapper for Space:1999 Bubblegum Cards, there is an ad for the Mouth Full. It is a yellow smiley face and says Happiness is a Mouth Full of bubblegum. Yea, I'd love to find a wrapper for the gum itself. Green Apple rocked!

Oh my gosh!! I would love to get my hands on some of this gum. The one I remember was called "Mouthful". I have been looking for years. I loved the green apple and grape equally. My friend and I never even thought to put the whole thing in our mouths at once. We took bites of it and it lasted us for awhile. Yum!

Lived in New Orleans - I'm 50 - in late 1960's I would ride my banana bike to "Time Saver" and on the ride back stuff my face with a "Big Mouth". So much gum I would be slobbering the stuff. Bubbles were out of the question due to volume and you had to eat the whole thing or what’s the point? Cost a dime and the size of a deck of poker cards. Stickers all over my bedroom door with those evil deranged bug eyed gems. Cool

When I was in High School my friend and I decided to each chew a slab of Big Mouth Bubble Gum in science class and we were trying to blow bubbles and laughing so hard we got sent to the principals office. He caught us in the hall and asked what we were laughing about and my friend asked him if he ever had one of those days where he couldn't stop laughing and he said his job was a bag of laughs. I will never forget the gum or the principal shaking his head at us like he was wondering what he was going to do with us.

Traveling back home to arkansas after a memorial day weekend in illinois. Just stopped at gas station for a treat and came away with a bag of individually wrapped jolly rancher hard candies. I mentioned to my husband that i wish they still made the jolly rancher watermelon, apple, cherry and fire sticks like they used to....remember those?? I then mentioned that i also wish we could still buy those slabs of bubble gum with the big smiley face on the wrapper....green apple was my fav!! Got back in the car and started my google search that brought me here....glad to know i'm not alone!

Yes, it was called "mouthful" bubblegum. I remember it in the late 60's...awesome b'gum! And it came as a BIG thick slab of gum, bout the size of a baseball card (remember those?). I seem to remember the package having a cartoon-ish character with a bulging check of this gum in his mouth and a dumb look on his face (of course, that made it all the more interesting!). Luv'd the Sour Apple flavor the best. Wished I could find a pic of the package. Wish'd I could find that b'gum now!

I remember when it first came out, "Mouthful bubblegum." It was about the size of a deck of cards and came in grape and green apple. If it came in "regular" I don't know because we wouldn't have been interested in that. My grandmother wouldn't let us get the grape flavor because she couldn't stand the smell of it. Eventually you could get the whole deck into your mouth, but you couldn't talk through it. And no, it didn't make very good bubbles.

I can't believe that people remember this gum! Every time I tell some one about it they look at me like I have a foot growing out of my forehead. My favorite was the green apple. I would have my mom buy me like 10 packs, and I would sell them at school!

I too have been looking for Big Mouth Gum. The closest thing I found is "Big League Chew". It is the shredded gum that comes in a pack that resembles leaf chewing tobacco. I found it in grape and sour apple. If you put the whole pack in your mouth, chew with your eyes closed you'll think your back in the 70's!

Big Mouth Gum was made by Topps. One version of it was on a stick, similar to a lollipop. A cartoon boy is pictured tasting it. Mouth Full Gum was made by the Donruss Company. Some versions of it featured the smiley face. Others showed a cartoon boy or girl blowing a bubble. That one had the apple flavor. Both brands were around, roughly, from 1976 to 1985.

O yeah...Mouth Full bubble gum was great. Always had to be Green Apple or Grape. If they had any other flavors I wouldn't know. Grew up in High Point, NC and would go to the Flash Market or Columbia Food Market to get it. Even though it was a gigantic slab of gum, you really couldn't share. Everyone had to have their own. My other favorite gum was the banana flavored bubble gum that came in the packs of Monkee cards. Always thought it was clever to have banana gum in those packs. Great memories !! Too bad the world sucks now.

I used to love this gum. I would chew the green apple and be halfway across the room from my mom and she would be able to smell it. She did not like that smell. ;-)

I was 4 years old the first time I tried it. My oldest brother left a pack of grape on his nightstand and said that I could break of a little piece, once in awhile, and he left with his guitar. He didn't say how many times I could do that. He got back a few hours later to a tiny corner of the gum left in a big wax wrapper. I only took a little piece at a time!! He laughed and messed up my hair. I miss you, Steve.

I have been looking four BIG MOUTH bubblegum too! Started buying it at the corner convenience store back in 1972 for sure. I remember the company rolled out a narrower version of the same name about 2-3 years later. Anyway, I had a big WALLET SIZE SLAB in my back pocket all the time! It was COOL back then! They came in regular fruit, apple and grape, with the crazy cards inside with deformed over-size characters riding souped-up cars, dune-buggys and motorcycles. I remember the one called MOTO-GUZZI on a motorcycle!!! My friends and I would bust up laughing when we shared cards with a GIANT was of gum in our mouths!! Those were the days!! Haha!!
