There is another apple flavored soda out there, it is a close second to Aspen. You can find it in most Hispanic grocery stores..it is called Manzana Sol.

I loved Aspen when I was a kid and, to my excitement, recently found a similar soda at the Dollar Tree store. It's called Casera. I also loved a cracker called Drumsticks. Anyone remember these? They were shaped like little chicken drumsticks and had a really unique flavor I haven't found since then.

Aspen was marketed by pepsi co in 1978 as a test falvor, but it never took off. it was a very clean crisp taste. My favorite at the time.
Honeychan - January 29, 2008 - Report this comment
Aspen was fantastic! I loved this soda alot as a kid. Nowadays, you can find Manzana Mia, a very close soda- in Hispanic grocers. Loved the can for Aspen, very memorable!

ASPEN WAS MADE BY PEPSI AND ACCORDING TO THEIR HEAD OFFICE THE LISCENCE AGREEMENT WITH THE PEOPLE OR PERSON THAT DEVELOPED THE RECIPE EXPIRED AND THEY CHOSE NOT TO RENEW IT WHAT A HUGE MISTAKE ... ONLY THING CLOSE IS THE JONES GREEN APPLE BUT STILL NOT AS GOOD
Maria - January 03, 2009 - Report this comment
I loved Aspen it was the best soft drink I can remember. I don't understand why if many customers loved it was removed from the market. Whatever drink pepsi replaced it with is no where in comparison to ASPEN. Please sign the petition to brink it back.

I remember that commercial too Andy! So nostalgic!

Aspen was the most refreshing soda I think I've ever had! I've signed the petition (mentioned above in kipxo's comments) and truly hope Pepsi brings it back one day! When I looked at the can on this website, I could almost taste the cool and thirst-quenching taste of Aspen! I'm glad there are others who remember it too! :O)

Aspen was the best soda out on the market and I still think about the taste. Nothing like it before or since. They seriously need to bring it back!!!!! I hadn't realized how long ago they stopped making it. Wow!!! 27 years ago and I still crave it!!

I love love loved Aspen as a kid. Those Alpine ski commercials they did sold me on it. Does anyone remember these cookies (I lived in Hoboken NJ) that were sold in boxes similar to the animal crackers size. But they were either blue or red boxes and had cat's ears and whiskers drawn on the pictures of the cookies on the box. They were snack sized boxes sold at candy/liquor / convenience corner stores. I liked the chocolate chip ones. Oh, I miss those! I think they were by Nabisco?

I just picked up this soda (presidents choice) called mulled apple...it made me think of back in the day we had aspen.....I would kick it on the beach, aspen in hand and a box of those chicken drumstick crackers matt mentioned earlier in these comments....nothing tasted better together....ahhhhh the good 'ol days!
Derek - March 30, 2010 - Report this comment
Yeah they always quit making good stuff. Aspen was great but I think their marketing sucked. Look at the garbage Pepsi pushes now...Slice was NEVER as good as Bubble Up or 7up.

I recently mixed 25% fresh apple cide and 75% Ginger ale (used Seagram's). It brought the memories back. I keep thinking I was drinking Aspen, but now that I look at the cans, I definitely recall drinking Apple Slice. Try the mix, hope it works for you.

I loved Aspen was a kid and every once and a while think about it and have one. They were so refreshing !! The problem is if they were going to make it today they would make it with high fructose corn syrup and not sugar :(

I look for it in every place that sales soft drinks every where I go. In other counrties and all across America hoping to find that remarkable taste anywhere! Please bring it back... this was the best memory of my dad he would always bring me a 6 six pack when he came to visit!

Oh man, I loved Aspen soda. Just seeing the name brings back a flood of memories. We used to play baseball down at the park from sunup Til sundown & in between games we'd run through the woods to this motel that had Aspen in the soda machine. I must have guzzled 10 of those bad boys a day. I really wish they'd bring it back. They replaced it with slice but, it was no where near as good as Aspen !
Wayner - March 16, 2012 - Report this comment
Aspen was a Pepsi product replaced by Slice Apple - it was around late 70's early 80's - if you google aspen soda you can watch the old video - it was my favorite drink!

I took trips from Los Angeles To Lake Tahoe/Carson City once/twice a year. We would take HWY-395, a little two lane road. The usual stop for gas was in Bridgeport, Ca, and I would always get an Aspen there. Only place I ever saw it. Cans only. Man, I miss it. Jones Cola Apple is the closest thing.

Wow! Can't believe all this love for good ol' Aspen soda! I loved it, was only 11 when it came out in '78 and it only stayed around until '82. I just read somewhere that they had a replacement for it in their new 'Slice' line, but I don't remember that...anyone else? I all these years thought the story was-'they found a chemical in the soda linked to cancer & was forced to pull it.man did I miss that soda as a kid! I remember accusing my Mom of just not wanting us to drink soda & making it HO that she couldnt find it! Now we REALLY know how bad soda is, but I wouldn't mind having one once in a month or so! For those who mentioned the commercial, you can find it on YouTube, I don't wanna spoil it, so I'm not giving any detail, it's easy to find! Well maybe we can rally the troops and get good ol' Aspen BACK!!!

Best tasting apple soda ive ever had,i had it in colorado springs back in '78 and living in wisconsin we didnt have it cause the stores I went into and asked for it didnt know what I was talking about so I had to wait until the summer of '79 to get more but it was worth the wait and slice had an apple soda that could not compete with the cool clear crisp taste of Aspen Apple soda, there are other apple sodas out there but they can never take the place of Aspen!

LOVED Aspen soda. When we heard they were discontinuing it my mom bought a dozen cases and we rationed out those last cans LOL. It was so refreshing and tasted cold even when it was straight off the shelf- my guess is it had a high carbonation level. It was like a bite of a cold crunchy Granny Smith! Never found an apple soda half as good.

I Love and miss Aspen soda so much, thought I would Google it and see if anyone else remembered it, and low and behold< I'm amazed and feel validated I wasn't the only one that thought the can the soda everything was one of a kind and fantastic! Anyway, when I was in 9th grade- in '78 we would vacation to Colorado from Texas as we adored the state . There we discovered not only everything about the state was awesome, there was this soda there beyond compare! We found out when we got home, though no-one had heard of it! Shocking! The next year on our vacation we brought home 5 cases before we left the state, and rationed it till gone. Never could find it after that and to this day not knowing it was discontinued, I still looked for it in every store on the chance i would see it again! Where do I sign the petition?! Who has the recipe? Let's make it again!! Beautiful can and memory of our beloved Colorado!!!!

I'm so happy to have found this site. I also remember love and miss Aspen. I was so bummed when I knew it was going to be discontinued. Since then I think about it now and again. :( But REJOICE Aspen lovers of the world! For I have found a way to duplicate the great taste we all know, love and miss. It is so simple it will amaze you, and does not require a time machine. Go to walmart and get the ice pops/freezer pops, they have a few different flavors in a bag. Get 7-Up, while there, Go home and put 7-Up in fridge till chilled. Get a mug and put 2 1/2 green apple freezer pops in the glass. (mine is a 32OZ mug) Add ice to keep cold, add 7-Up, and sit down before taking a drink because you will be blown away. Enjoy, and PEACE!
