Description
This gum came in colorful packages the size of the common Wriglys pack of gum. Flavors included Cherry, Orange, Apple, and others. This gum would make your mouth water like crazy. I was in Mexico 18 years ago and saw that they still produce the product. They added a flavor, "Mango" - not all that great.

My favourite was the Sour Wildberry, closely followed by the Sour Strawberry and Sour Cherry. They weren't nearly as sour as today's "Sour" gum and candy; just tangy enough to make your mouth water a bit for a couple of minutes. Then they'd mellow to a nice sweetness. Adams re-issued the Sour Cherry (yummy) and Sour Apple (definitely NOT yummy to me) for a very limited time in 2006. It also re-issued Clove, Black Jack, and Beeman's, also on a limited-time basis. Every few years, Adams does a limited-time re-issue of these "heritage" gums. I just hope that they'll re-issue the Sour Wildberry and Sour Strawberry ones next.

The Adam's sour gum and Clove gum were some of my favorites as a child. I always felt like I missed something never having the opportunity to try the sour pineapple. It would be great if they release all the sour flavors again and based on sales decide to keep a couple around for good.

The Grape was the most wonderful flavor ever! My parents would make me chew it outside cause they hated the smell so much. I just ordered a 20 pack box of both Cherry and Apple. My older sister will be stoked!

The Adams Sour Cherry won a contest held by chefs for the best gums made. The sour cherry won best fruit flavored category. Bazooka Joe won best bubble gum. Can't remember the others.

Adams made Sour, Sweet (pink & white? package). I think there were two others to go along. That was all it said on package. "Sweet" it was THE best gum I've EVER had. Wish they still made it!!

There were many Adams Sour flavors: Apple, Cherry, Grape, Strawberry, Orange, Wildberry, Fruit Fiesta, Lemon, Chocolate & Vanilla Ice Cream...all of which were phased out when "Big" bubblegum took over the market in the late 1970's. Adams Sour Gum was replaced with Bubbliscious and Life Savers Gum was replaced with Bubble Yum...

This is another movie memory. Before my mom and I went to the Disney Sumnmer Hit Parade every week in the summertime, we'd fill her "magic bag" full of goodies, since she hated paying concession stand prices, (since it cost more to eat than the price of admission). Among the treats was Adam's Sour gum. I loved Apple, Grape, Fruit Fiesta, and Wildberry. I watched all the Herbie movies, That Darn Cat, Blackbeard's Ghost and many other cool live action Disney films while chewing Adam's Sour. Great memories!

I loved the Sour Orange; I had an aunt who loved the Sour Cherry. I remember a trip to Canada with my parents when I was 8 or so, and was THRILLED to find Sour Lemon; I remember them buying several packs for me. :-)

From the daytime TV vault: TV commercial depicting a timid, geeky young man (resembles Freddie of the Dreamers) who turns girls off. After chewing Adams Sour Cherry gum, he evolves into a man no girl can resist (macho-like). The "Sour Power" song is played. This aired on Dick Clark's music show, "Where the Action Is," over ABC (9/27/66).

I loved almost all the flavors as a kid in the '70s. Saw a limited run of the stuff about 10 years back. Bought every pack the convenience store had. Haven't seen any since. Darn shame this is not produced any more. Certainly better than most of the crap that's out there today.

I'd like to know who sang the song in this commercial, and who the actors were and what happened to them. I loved this commercial as a kid!

Two commercials for Adams sour gum were filmed in 1966. The one with the Freddie of the Dreamers lookalike has disappeared from YouTube. The other still is, with the young guy, plus the 2nd generation Mr. Adams (president) and four young women who scream, "Oh, Mr. Adams!!" It aired during "American Bandstand" on ABC (6/18/66). The girls were models with some acting coaching. One does Resemble Ruth Buzzi of "Laugh-In." The young guy is unknown. The unknown studio group that recorded the "Sour Power" song also did the early Great Shakes jingle in 1965-66.

The Tokens (the famous vocal group who made "the Lion Leeps Tonight") made a jingle for "old man Adams and his sour orange gum" in the 1960s.
