My mom crocheted a poncho for me in medium blue yarn. She did a beautiful job; it had cable stitches and popcorn stitches and smooth areas. One day during seventh grade(1970) when we were changing classes in the incredibly crowded halways of our Jr. High, my poncho got hooked on some guy's belt buckle and we were stuck together with the yarn getting pulled further and further out as we continued in our separate directions. Talk about embarrassing!! The yarn was getting stretched, but I didn't want to grab onto his belt. Somehow we became unlinked!

Ponchos were HUGE when I was in 2nd grade. They were wool plaid (dark blues, greens, reds) with a fringe, and I wanted one soooo bad. At least I got my tall knee leather boots for Christmas that year. Wore them with thick tights, a horizontally striped mini skirt, and a hip length ribbed knit short sleeve pullover top with the little zipper opening at the neck. Was I a stylin', hip 7 year old, or what?
