my brother had a burgandy color leisure suit which he wore when my mother re-married,he also wore those cool mens dress shoes with the 3 inch tall heal.my grandpa told him he looked like a pimp (WHICH HE DID) but we hated my grandpa,so we ignored him.

I got a nice vintage lime green Montgomery Ward leisure suit with a red-orange shirt. Luckily I bought it at Goodwill for about $14 for the suit and shirt. Had a real old white belt from the same time frame that my grampa gave me. Love that suit. Hope the fashion comes back!

A leisure suit wasn't just any bright-colored synthetic suit from the 70s. It was a cut of suit, not limited to particular fabrics or colors. The jacket was a shirt-jacket without lapels, just a shirt-style collar, that was the key thing. Very casual, in keeping with 70s trends. They were very popular around 1973-74, as I recall. I had one in a slate blue brushed denim with pearly buttons, another in a pastel peach polyester, and another in dark brown polyester with cream topstitching. Mostly wore them with Qiana shirts.

I remember I had a denim blue-jean leisure suit. I don't know why they would be described as 'disgusting.' My Dad found them to be somwhat more comfortable than a conventional suit and you didn't have to wear a tie with them. My uncle and some of his friends used to wear matching maroon leisure suits with white belts. I wouldn't mind if Leisure Suits made a comeback. Someone will just have to start the trend.

I was in 11th grade, back in 1975, when I was invited to my first "rich kids" cocktail party. (Professionally catered by the parents, no less.) Naturally, my usual party attire, torn Levis 501s and a Zepplin shirt, wasn't going to cut it with the preppy crowd. So I went to JCPenney, and bought a dark brown, corduroy Leisure Suit, and a cream-colored knit turtleneck. I wore it with a dark brown belt and shoes. Weirdly, though I felt like a total geek, I remember a lot of the girls complementing me on how nice I looked? But, that was the mid to late 70s. A strange time of warped fashion sense, a widely ignored 18yo legal drinking age, and before MADD and AIDS ruined the party for everyone.
