Description: The huckapoo shirts were fitted polyester shirts that often (usually) had a very busy pattern on them. One of mine had curvy blue and white vertical stripes with multicolor arrows on the stripes. At school dances, it was a big deal to "wear your huckapoo".

Hah! We called these "Donny Osmond" shirts because he wore a lot of these. And so did we all!

I was a clothing buyer for Hess's Department Store, a chain based in Allentown PA. Bought Jr. clothes. Huckapoo had a showroom in New York City on Broadway. The sales reps name was Paula R., and what I remember were that the shirts were one of the first imports on the market. The first of many...the shirts were cheaply made, high profit and had very cute patterns. They came in assortments.

30 years ago today I was on the front page of my local paper and my sister reminded of that fact today... wearing a very loud brown and orange diamond pattern huckapoo. I also remember that they did not breathe.

I was computer service bureau salesman and Huk A Poo was a client. I became close to the owner and got my wildly designed shirts with the long collars for free. I was the envy of all my friends.

I designed the original Huk-a-Poo shirts back in the day. I still have my silver Huk-a-Poo shirt. Those were very creative times for music, art, and fashion.

I had a tan safari dress with buttons down the front to the hem. It was very Ava Gardnerish! Loved that hukapoo!

I just found a picture of myself in a green and rust huckapoo shirt. I have a jacket over it but I think it has a psuedo egyptian theme, though I may be getting it mixed up with the pattern on my Wayne Rogers shirt! I do remember that I LOVED that shirt!

I wasn't around in the 70's, but I did have a pink jogging suit that my parents bought me when I was about 8 or 9 years old, and the brand said "Huckapoo" on it. It was a small tag sewn onto one of the sleeves, below the shoulder. The jogging suit was pink, and I loved it. And I also have an old sweater that i found at Good Will that has that same brand on it too.

I will always remember my Huckapoo shirts. My favorite had little bi-planes in it's design. Iliked wearing it because I was a stewardess. I wore that shirt on Nov.12,1975, the day I survived a crash at JFK aboard a jumbo jet. I always felt it was my Lucky shirt!

My grandmother recently passed, and she had a closet full of clothes that hasn't been touched in at least 25-30 years! I've been wearing a pale blue button up with a pointed collar of hers quite frequently! I absolutely love it! It's a Huck a poo! I don't have much knowledge of the brand but love the style! I'll keep it forever! Xoxo -little deadhead

Wow, what memories. Wannamakers in downtown Philly, late 70's, sold knock-off Diane Von Furstenberg wrap dresses and men's huckapoo shirts made out of the same printed fabrics. You couldn't tell my ex and me anything when we went out together in those.

I lived in the Buffalo NY area in the mid 1970's.. the Buffalo style at the time ( if you were between 14 and 40) was flare leg Levi's... Bastad clogs and Huckapoo shirts.. it was like a uniform, everyone men and women wore this uniform.. my fave Huckapoo was mostly dark blue with wavy stripes of white pyramids and chains of red cars.. My older brother had the same shirt so I got his as a hand me down as I outgrew mine, every picture of me from 1975 to 1977 I'm in the same shirt.. they were purchased at Hess's in Clarence NY.. I was one sharp lookin 17 year old..!

I was the vice-president at Huk-A-Poo. Over time, the business grew from $4M/year to $100M. What a time!!! There is no 'c' in the name.

I grew up in the 7's and wearing a Huk a poo shirt was a status symbol. It was what you wore when you were wearing something special, gong to a basketball game, trying to impress someone, etc. Yes, they didn't breather but we suffered for fashion!

Aaaaahhh....the memories! I remember wearing one of my cherished Huk a poos to my 7th grade dance...with my bell bottoms of course. The shirt was skin tight but then again, I was rail thin so it fit perfectly!

I just bought a huk a poo 100% silk black button up long sleeve from a thrift store and I love it it's a little faded but nice, reminds me of something Robert Smith of the cure used to wear in the 80s or something lol. How much would something like this be worth or was back in the day I just paid 2 bucks for it. What a Steal!

I was pretty poor but young and always wore Huckapoo shirts. They really flattered my figure and used to get a lot of attention from all the men and boys. Nothing was PC or sexist...different times for the better.V9D

This post is for Marion from Hess Dept store. I was your sales reps many, many years past! Hess's was one of my favorite accounts. Great store, and great people. We did a lot of business together! BTW, it is spelled HUK A POO for anyone who is interested.

HUCK A POO I am 57. When I was a kid, my friend's older sisters wore Huck a poo shirts. We were too young. Now, as an adult and a clothes freak I often think of my favorite fashions from the past. Where did these 2 piece sets go? They were great and timeless.

I had a couple of HUK A POO shirts as a young girl. Would love to find some originals. Mine were very Art Deco!!

I have several vivid memories of Huk A Poo clothing! I haven’t seen anyone else mention this but on the inside seam of the shirts was a little tag with a red heart that said PS. I love you!! I sew, and would carefully remove these tags and stitch them into clothing I made for friends and family. My favorite shirt I wore to college orientation in 1976 it was Mandarin collar rounded yolk, 3/4 sleeves a soft knit- white background with tiny blue red and green feathers. The sleeve cuffs were always too tight so I removed them and just put elastic. I also had a Safari style tan corduroy shirt jacket with belt. Love to hear about other peoples Huk A Poos!

I have several of the silky button down shirts from the 70’s but also a Huk a poo jacket made out of paper with Marilyn Monroe paper dolls for the pattern. I can’t find anything anywhere about this paper bomber jacket.
