They were the "Krate" series bikes. Orange - Orange Krate, Red - Apple Krate, Yellow - Lemon Peeler, Green - Pea Picker, and Silver - Grey Ghost. Schwinn has made some reproductions of these over the past few years.

You forgot one Krate in your description. It was the White - Cotton Picker. It was only produced for 2 years and the Grey Ghost for only 1 year. They are the rarest of the series.

The prices of Schwinn Krate bikes went up dramatically in the five years they were made at the Chicago plant. Starting at $83 (1968) to $137 (1973). These were smaller bikes, aimed at kids under 14 years old. I recently visited the area where Schwinn's plant was, off North Ave, on Kildare in Chicago. Now, park land nestled in a residential neighborhood. You'd never thought a factory had been there.
