A plastic box with a light bulb inside, the cover had a grid of holes into which fit little plastic colored pegs that lit up from the light inside. You could make your own designs or use paper ones provided with the toy.

Back in 76 or 77, I used one of the blank pages and created the entire live stage for the band KISS, with drum riser, logo, flames and lights!!!

i had one-it was nice.my husband always wanted one as a child but his mother thought it could cause blindness-but that was back in the 70's,now they have prozac and it works very well for her.maybe she just didnt want him to get the little pieces everywhere. i did buy him the updated current version of lite-brite for a gag gift and he was touched (not "needs some prozac too" touched but happy touched)

One of my favorites....Really took some time to get your design....Loved turning out all the lights in a room, and plugging it in.

Got one (finally!) from Santa the year I turned 30, played the hell out of it the whole week. Ok so I know Santa was really mom, but still...

My mother would never buy one of these for me, and now that I am a mother I know why -- very sharp little plastic thingies all over the floor that HURT when you step on one in the middle of the night :)

Kids who made really complex spacey designs could simply turn out the lights and zone out, no need to drop acid.

I had gotten Hasbro's LITE BRITE for Christmas in 1970. You had the options of creating your own pictures, or getting pre-printed designs with color codes for the pegs to be inserted. The pegs that were bundled in with the toy were hardly enough to customize, so I had to get extra bags of them. I have a TV commercial from a "Doctor Dolittle" cartoon show (11/21/70, NBC).
