Description
They were doll that taught preschoolers how to dress them selves. Button, zippers, snaps, tie laces, open & close buckles...etc. I had one of these "Dapper Dan" dolls in 1971 or 1972 when I was 4 or 5 yrs old. I loved it. I took it everywhere I went. I just found a newer version of it on Fingerhut.com! I think I am going to get one for my 4 1/2 yr old daughter! Thanks

I have a Dapper Dan doll. Still in good condition. I think I'll buy a new one for my son, because I don't want to get this one dirty and I don't think it's machine washable like the newer ones, at least, it doesn't say so on the tag. I do wonder though, how much he's worth now. Like I said, he's in good condition, just missing the original laces from his shoes.

Dapper Dan was my first boyfriend. I loved him so much. I accidently left him at a local restaurant. I would not left my parents rest until we went back to get him!

Dear ECH. Is your aunt also the person who illustrated a book of poems by W. Keith Hafer called "Things I Love", published by the Massachusetts Savings Bank in 1968?

I have a Dapper Dan doll from the early 70's. Does anyone else remember the blue, plastic record that came with him where he sang all about how to dress and undress? I've seen lots of vintage dolls on ebay and such but no one has the record or even remembers the lyrics.

Playskool first marketed Dan and Dressy Bessy in 1970. I reviewed several old toy catalogs on Wishbook Web. The 1970 Sears book had them selling for under $6 (no record mentioned). The 1972 Sears book showed a 50c price hike (to $6.35, no record). Also, smaller toys (Little Dan and Bessy) were available @ $3 each. The 1975 Sears book only offered Dressy Bessy, selling for $5.50 (no record).

Yes - there was a record. the song went "My name is Dapper Dan. I'm a high flyin'......easy goin' man......." and that's all I remember of it. Been trying to find the words for years.
