Description
One of the toys that I actually wore out. Essentially a low-slung plastic tricycle. The seat was adjustable; the holes that you didn't use for the seat were perfect for sticking a garden hose into and filling up the plastic chassis with water. There was a tiny drain hole in the bottom (I guess the manufacturer knew kids would leave these things out in the rain), so after "fueling up" at the "gas station" (the garden hose on the backyard patio), I'd ride around the yard until I ran out of "fuel." I wrote "REGULAR" and "UNLEADED" on individual bricks in the wall next to the "gas pump" with chalk.

I finally wore a hole in the right plastic back tire from skidding out so much! OMG, soooo many hours spent playing with this! Me and my friends would pretend we were the guys in "CHiPs" and patrol the neighborhood!

Some people from the US moved to the UK and one of their kids brought this with him. he thought it was really cool so we set fire to the big wheel. He didn't look so cool then!

The best thing about the big wheel was the lever you pulled to stop the back wheel and spin out. Lots of hours of fun riding this

ok-gotta say,Tim,a little extreme?! set fire to it?not very welcoming and a little violent and scary-THIS kind of behavior is why us yanks left your country never to return-until we were big enough to retaliate-thankfully we are also very forgiving and are calling it even since you shared with us the genious that is monty pythons flying circus! JUST KIDDING!- i LOVE u guys-and monty python.anyway big wheels were awesome even to us girls who loved to spin out.they were dangerous if you didnt put a tall stick flag on the back because cars couldnt see u in the rearview mirror unless u had one-i think thats why they stopped making them.

this was the best toy i ever owned in my life. i got it on my 3rd birthday and still road it up until i was 11 or so. the wheels were completely worn out with holes in them and finally the seat collapsed. i lived on a huge hill and would fly down that hill on my bigwheel into the woods. funny how i wold run up the hill with this big wheel and never get winded. just thinking about walking up that hill now exhausts me lol. i give credit to that big wheel and all those days running up that huge hill for my muscular legs. lol

OMG, I remember getting at the top of our street (it's a long hill) and standing up on the back and holding onto the handle bar and making a gradual turn at the bottom to make it jump over the creek. We would have races to see who could make theirs land the farthest over the creek.

The earlier models did not have the break lever on the back wheel. The break lever came out a couple years later. The later version also had a compartment behind the seat to put your lunch or other toys in. My Big Wheel was the earlier model. I wore out the front plastic tire using it so much! Great toy!

Big Wheels was loads of fun back in the days but needless to say I don't think they were half the fun when Green Machines came along and knocked them out the box. Based on Huffy Website they still make Green Machines and have them for adults as well as kids now. The ultimate slide machine, The Green Machine.
