I Worked for Chesty Potato Chips as a route salesman. They sold to the Fairmont Snacks and the chips were sold under that name, later under the ownership of the Culbro Corp. the name of Chesty along with Kas and Kitty Clover was brought back. We sold Indian Corn Chips, Cornies, Tor Ticos, Pepitos, Bachman Pretzels and Ozark BBQ Potato Chips. I think they closed down around 1986 or so. Culbro/Snacktime Company also introduced "Krunchers" Potato chips in three flavors around 1983--that was our last great hope and it wasn't enough so save the regional snack company against the big space buying programs of national giant Frito Lay. Chesty, Arties, Seyfert and many many other regional companies closed and or sold. Walmart exploded on the scene and everything was for sale and over the next 10 years or so all your regional grocery stores closed. Only the big boys could survive and after Chesty closed I ended up working for Frito Lay for over ten years. I still have much memorabilia from my Chesty days. It was good times selling chips to small locally owned and operated markets. Hey does anybody remember the annual Chesty promotions when you got a pack of garden seeds on each bag or a free back to school pencil?
