I remember eating at the one in Fullerton/La Habra, on the corner of Harbor Boulevard and Imperial Highway. I remember on the back wall, there was a series of pictures thzt told the Sambo story, if I recall, he was being chased by the tiger, and got the tiger to chase its own tail, and the tiger was turned to butter, which Sambo used on his pancakes.

The Santa Barbara Sambo's is, I think, the original location for this chain. And yep it's still going strong. I was there last week.

I have my mom's original Sambo's name tag that she wore as a waitress there. It's classic.

It went out of business because it wasn't politically correct enough. People started complaining the story was racist. Sigh....

Back when I was a kid in the late 70s, when Sambo's still had lots of restaurants open, my mom got a huge stuffed Sambo's tiger from the one we always ate at. When I was 5, the thing was taller than me :)

I worked at the sambos in savannah, Georgia in 1975. It was my first job and I remember having to wear a white polyester uniform with an orange triangle apron. The tips were terrible and the food even worse. I left for greener pastures at red Lobster and then steak and ale. OMG!!!
