Description
It was a cherry flavored pop. It came in a bright red can. The commercials portrayed people making popping noises by sticking their finger inside their cheek and popping outward.

AH!! I grew up singing that jingle with my dad! No one I am friends with has ever heard of Red Baby. I've even taught it to my own kids.

the kid in the commercial was joey chillelli, a local celebrity at my elementary school! the cans must be worth a small fortune since there is almost nothing on the net about it - better call joey and see if he has a case sitting around!

I made a commercial for Red Baby in the early '70's in Denver. I was riding on a motorcycle with my "girlfriend" on the back. Realizing we ere thirsty, we looked at each other, looked at the camera, and took turns doing the popping thing with our fingers.

Scott...that's incredible! I saw that commercial as a child and was just recounting it to my wife. Can't find it on youtube and would love to see it

I was working for the food broker who introduced this into the market in Los Angeles. Think strawberry, saccharine, cough medicine that has been carbonated. It was vile! We got shelf space for this turkey next to 7-Up and absolutely no one ever reordered. We had to pull it from the shelves. The TV ads insulted a four-year-old. It was disgusting.

My trumpet teacher in the 70s played the really high trumpet in the Red Baby jingle! It was really cool sounding and a great claim to fame for him!

Keith nailed the lyrics. Wasn't there also a commercial where the pitcher threw to the catcher, and the catcher turned over to reveal in it, not a baseball, but a can of Red Baby? So cheesy.

Keith got it right. "Are you ready for Re-e-e-ed Baby! The cherry lemony lime . . . pop in the mouth!"
Pejo Denver 1974 - October 12, 2019 - Report this comment
Whoops. It's actually "a" cherry lemony lime . . . Not "the"

Found only two images of Red Baby. One, a bottle cap with a million ingredients printed (must be by RC). The other, a 12oz can. Among the print, a disclaimer warning diabetics not to drink without consulting a doctor, for the main sweetener is Sacharrin. From around 1977.
Fuzzball - January 15, 2021 - Report this comment
Sacharrin was for diabetics

"Are you ready-Pop!-for Red Baby? A cherry lemony lime pop in the mouth. Are you ready-Pop!-for Red Baby? A cherry lemony lime pop in the mouth. Are you ready-Pop!-for Reeeed Baby? (trumpet riff) A new soft drink, regular and diet, in stores that are ready for you, baby.-Pop!" This is the text of the commercials as I remember them. In one commercial one person couldn't do the finger-in-the-mouth sound on the second pop and produced a deflation sound instead.

Chris - yes, I still sing that song! Thanks for reminding us of the lyrics. I remember a commercial where a pitcher threw a pitch to the catcher who turned his mitt around to reveal a soft drink, which was I think a Red Baby.

I graduated high school in Michigan in 1983. In our marketing class text book, there was a section devoted to Red Baby. There was a picture of a poster with different world leaders, asking something like "Am I Red Baby?"
