Description
This was a funky fruit-flavored cereal with day-glo colored puffs (Moonstones... taste like fruit of the moon!"). This came about around the same time as "Grins N Smiles N Giggles N Laughs", and as a matter of fact it also had similar character magnets as "prizes". There were three Moonstones characters I recall (Major Moonstone, Merry Moon and Tuney Moon) and also two "villains" (Crum Bum and Big Bum). I can remember it as clear as day, but I'd be surprised if it was marketed longer than 5 or 6 months.

I remember one of the TV spots for this cereal. The baddies had kidnapped the token female character (Merry?), and were holding her for ransom (for the recipe for the cereal, of course!) in a hot air balloon. The lead good guy comes to get her in his spaceship, and she pulls the plug on the hot air balloon, which flies away, dragging the bad guys. I can remember this, but I can't remember my sister's cell phone number. Sad.

I remember eating it a couple of times when I was in grade school (I'm now 48). I really liked it but doubt that its nutritional value added up to very much. That said, it was a fun cereal like Trix or Lucky Charms. One thing I really DO miss is Product 19. Loved that stuff and it was good for you too.

I loved this cereal! My best friend's mom used to buy it when she knew I was coming to spend the night. And the one time my mom let me order something off the cereal box, (the t-shirt), it never came. I've hated mail-in offers from cereal ever since.

This was one of my favorite cereals as a kid ! I really love the artwork and characters ! I really wish they had made little toys of the Moonbeams and Moonbums like they did with the Freakiest characters.

I just found my Merrymooon magnet! I remembered it came out of a cereal box as a kid but no one until now could tell me what it was. I'd post a pic if I could!

I got the Moonstones T Shirts off the box of cereal. Loved them I wore them for years until they wear thread bear rags.
